This engineering is a disgrace
This engineering is a disgrace. All I can say positive is that it's an exercise in ticking boxes. Hardly praise when learning should be exactly not that! At least Trustpilot is doing something to remedy the situation still 1.4 stars is incredibly generous and doesn't help anyone. Zero stars. Take a learning - try again from the ground up - please!
A Masterclass in How Not to Design a Platform
Using Smart Assessor is like being trapped in a time machine set permanently to 1999 only without any of the nostalgia. The interface looks like it was designed on Windows XP and then forgotten about. Every time I log in, I half expect dial-up internet noises to start playing in the background.
The UX is a labyrinth of frustration. Need your learner to do a simple task? Prepare to click through more menus than it takes to file a tax return.
Nothing is where you’d expect it to be, and the layout feels like a cruel puzzle designed to test your patience rather than support learning. But don't worry you will learn there are lots of pretty colours to choose from in life.
Performance? Don’t make me laugh. Pages load with the urgency of a drunken sloth on a Sunday afternoon and half the time the system seems to be thinking about whether it even feels like working today. It doesn’t just slow down my workflow it grinds it into the ground then pulverises it.
From a user-centred design perspective, it’s almost impressive how badly it misses the mark. Instead of making assessment easier, it actively gets in the way. The dashboards are cluttered, the navigation is nonsensical and my learners find it just as miserable to use as staff do in the college I work at.
In 2025, there’s no excuse for software to look and behave like this. Other platforms are modern, responsive and intuitive in nature. Smart Assessor, on the other hand, feels like it was built by someone who read about UX design in a magazine once and decided to wing it.
To sum it up, Smart Assessor isn’t just outdated it’s a daily exercise in frustration for use assessors and our learners . If you value your time, sanity, or your learners’ experience, avoid this platform at all costs. Hopefully in a 100 years from now someone will have gotten around to redesigning it but don't hold your breath.
I agree with 80% of the people
I agree with 80% of the people. I spend more time trying to work things out on Smart Assessor than doing my apprenticeship. It is so not user friendly! And really do not need to be so complicated.
Frustrating
I use multiple platforms, this one is over complicated and unreliable, not to mention frustrating.
Horrible Experience
Really really horrible experience. Once you get used to what you need it for, you can achieve what you need to, but it's such a horrible experience wrapping your mind around it and there is absolutely no desire to do more than the bare minimum on there.
The layout is inconsistent as you navigate, it's messy and it's massively overcomplicated.
The colours used are not well thought out and add to the confusion.
It's honestly like something from the early web, unsure how it exists in this day and age with the geniuses we have amongst us.
There is actually an accessibility report linked at the bottom of their site that tells you everything you need to know!
Smart assessor was helpful!
I had been able to complete my qualification through smart assessor. It was really tricky to begin with but I eventually got the hang of using it. Smart assessor had been really useful to me.
The worst Eportfolio in existence
The worst Eportfolio in existence. It's so convoluted that students and employers refuse to engage with it and it has increased workload and time needed to do my core job for a glorified spreadsheet.
Smart Assessor WHAT A JOKE!!
Smart Assessor WHAT A JOKE!!! How can they call it Smart when it is the most unstable software package I have ever used. Over the years I have assessed well over 200 apprentices with different learning providers and not one of them was satisfied with its performance. Even senior positions in the companies I have worked for were extremely unhappy with this glorified spreadsheet. You think by now they would have improved it, but the old saying is true I suppose you can't polish a t**d.
UPDATE!...
IT'S ABSOLUTE S**T!!!!
What can I say
What can I say. The most user unfriendly eportfolio in existence. Learners and employers aren't interested in engaging with poorly designed, clunky software. Onefile isn't great either but is still streets ahead. Even ecordia is better. To be avoided.
Smart assessor is over complicated
Smart assessor is the most complicated user unfriendly system I have ever used
I would avoid this system at all costs and find a different company to use even if it costs more it would be worth it
If I could give them 0 stars I would I think trust pilot should allow 0 or even negative stars for such companies
I left my course back in 2019 and now…
I left my course back in 2019 and now they have been spam emailing me about summit I need to sign. Goes on the website and puts in forgot password. Puts my email in correctly and I get no email. Really annoying. Ill get emails at like 1 in the morning and its like 5 of them in a row.
terrible,not user-friendly
terrible, not user-friendly, and makes the whole learning process very stressful .The most horrible learning experience I have ever had . Everything you need is hidden and complicated to navigate . How this website is still running is beyond me . Want to give it zero stars.
I love the system - hate the down time
I love the system, I know how to use it and it is simple to use if you focus on what you need. What I don't like is the number of times it crashes and the length of time it is out for.
ONE STAR AS ZERO IS NOT AN OPTION
ONE STAR AS ZERO IS NOT AN OPTION
I have never used a more convoluted unfriendly mashup of gobbledygook and I have worked for the jobcentre.....
Awful
Absolutely awful website, not user friendly, no end of issues at all. Hands down one of the worst websites I’ve ever used in my life
Bad Gateway day after day after day.......
Two days in a row (5th and 6th December) bad Gateway errors, running slow, timing out. Can't do our jobs and learners and employers getting frustrated. No communication from them. Must be in hiding!
Very unreliable system
Very unreliable system, constantly has issues and can be hard to log into. Can't log on today to even raise a ticket.
The Worst E-Portfolio System I've used - EVER
As a qualified IQA/Assessor, I have been using this system for going on 3 years now and if anything it's got worse.
- Not user-friendly (for Assessor/IQA and Learner).
- SLOW running (we call it the wheel of death as that thing whirls around and around while SA thinks about what it needs to do next).
- Poor customer service response.
- Sometimes it's not even slow, it just doesn't work.
I dread to think how much time our team wastes, waiting for SA to 'do its thing' so we can move on.
It's the most frustrating system I have ever used. If I could award Zero stars, I would!
Not user friendly
Not user friendly
hard to use and slow to resolve issues
there is no customer support for users
password reset takes days
Smart Assessor Not Fit For Purpose
This has to be the most clunky un user friendly portal I have ever used. It is a hinderance to my day to day job. The smart session auto email facility is unreliable therefore hit & miss if a learner gets notified of workshops/formal reviews. The embedded zoom functionality doesn't always appear and, again may appear for the trainer but not the learner.
Upgrades - It appears these are rolled out without good and thorough Beta Testing and creates knock on issues.
Customer Support - You cant log in as the portal does not retain passwords. You request an email to reset your password. This never turns up!! My rep does communicate but often within a week timeframe and then tells me to contact the helpdesk. By this time I am on my 3rd laptop due to frustration.
In Summary - Smart Assessor is useless and not fit for purpose.
