Terrible service

Terrible service. Don’t know what the food is like as I’ve been sat waiting for it so long that I’ve had the time to write this review. Store was dirty and staff were too busy talking to do their jobs.

Shocked and hurt

I am writing to express my deep dissatisfaction with the service I received at your Bristol Cabot Circus location on the evening of 22nd November 2024. I have been a loyal customer of Slim Chickens for over a year, and this experience was incredibly disappointing, to the point where I feel compelled to take further action.

As someone who is disabled and drove 50 minutes to dine in with my son—whom I only see on weekends—I expected a pleasant and stress-free experience. Unfortunately, I was met with unacceptable service, inconsistent communication, and concerning food safety practices.

As someone with a disability, waiting over an hour in these conditions was particularly difficult and disappointing. Upon arrival at around 8:20 PM, I was informed that it would take approximately 30 minutes for my meal to be ready. I was happy to wait, but as time went on, I became increasingly frustrated with the poor service. After about 10 minutes, I inquired about the status of my milkshake and was met with a rude response from a young staff member who told me to “just wait” and that he was busy. He later apologized and explained that it was his first day and he was only 16. I appreciated his honesty and told him to take his time.

However, around 25 minutes later, I noticed that the restaurant was near empty, which led me to question why my food hadn’t been served yet. I observed a basket of food sitting on the counter for about 15 minutes and hoped it wasn’t mine. Ten minutes later, the waiter picked up the food and brought it to my table. At that point, I was horrified to see that it was stone cold. I informed the waiter that I had seen the food sitting there for a while, and I refused to eat it. I requested that my meal be remade.

The staff in the kitchen appeared upset and informed me that there were no more chicken tenders available and insisted that I eat the cold meal. I could feel that the chicken was cold and unappetising. After some back and forth, they agreed to remake the meal. A staff member came to apologise and offered us a free milkshake and a can of drink. I accepted, but after another 10 minutes, the waiter brought back the same basket of food, completely untouched and still stone cold. My son, who was becoming very hungry, ate a bite of the cold tenders before I could stop him. Since then, he has been complaining of stomach pain, which is now causing me significant concern. I left the restaurant without eating anything, feeling upset, frustrated, and worried for my son’s health after such a distressing experience.

At that point, I was offered a refund, which I reluctantly accepted. The manager apologised, and we left the establishment.

Later that evening, my son’s stomach pains continued, and I am now deeply concerned that the cold food may have contributed to his discomfort. This raises further questions about the handling of food at your restaurant. I am left wondering what exactly was done with my meal when it was taken back to be remade, considering it was returned to me in the same cold condition.

I am extremely upset and disappointed by this entire experience. As a loyal customer, I never expected to be treated in such a manner. I would appreciate a formal apology for this incident and an assurance that this will be investigated further, both in terms of the quality of food handling and the behaviour of staff at this location.

Slim Chickens

Slim Chickens Redditch B98 7RU

Had trouble downloading the app since the branch is located inside the large Tesco store and I couldn’t connect to wifi for some reason but i knew they did a reward/points scheme like their competitor ie Nandos.
The staff member only told me AFTER payment that scanning of the app to gain the reward had to be done before paying and there was no manual way of adding the reward like other large reputable franchises (e.g. subway) from the receipt. I think that’s an option that should be available to slim chickens customers.
Also, considering their price range is similar to nandos - when they advertise house toast as part of the meal deals, i thought i was going to get 2 full slices of toast, just like with nandos you get 2 pieces of garlic bread when ordering the regular size…well you can imagine my shock and upmost horror when i got served literally HALF the size of only 1 slice of toast, ie a triangle slice!!🙃🔻 - definitely need to rethink about house toast portion size/slices considering how you charge £10+ for meal deals.

I’m a sauce guy and with such a selection of sauces I was only allowed 1 tub with my 4 tenders meal, thankfully the mango habanero was beautiful😘 - i just wish i was allowed more sauces!!

Update on 07/11/24: Filled out a feedback form of my experience and slim chickens were quick to reply asking for my 9 digit app number so they could add my reward…still waiting for it to be applied…

2nd update: 21/11/24: Emailed them on 13/11 asking how long it takes to stamp my app and had NO REPLY!!

As usual these companies act as though they take your complaints/concerns seriously BUT don’t resolve - hence my review has gone from 3 down to 2 stars!!

Service Good, Cost Ridiculous

The service, provided by Natasha, was good.
The food, a "classic sand meal", without some of the items normally included, was satisfactory, although there was some gristle hidden in the the coating, and the chips were a bit soggy and unexciting.
The cost, £12 (all but one penny) was exhorbitant!
I shan't be rushing back!

Slim Chickens - Colchester

Slim Chickens - Colchester.
I can't speak for the other restaurants, but the staff in Colchester are fantastic.
Super busy (may need to employ more team members!) but very patient, knowledge, helpful.
The restaurant is kept clean, considering there is an arcade / Hollywood bowl next store and a lot of 'energetic' youngsters around :)
The food is hot and fresh.
We will continue to visit.

Meadowhall Luke had Absolutely appaling customer service

Reading the reviews about slim chicken I’m not surprised by the incident that took place today!!!!!
Absolutely appalling customer service. Each Saturday I eat at slim chicken Meadowhall. As usual I walked in and sat down only to be followed by the same woman who lied and told me she had added my Meadowhall discount before and who had been called out last time.
I stood waiting to be served and two men were on the counter one who turned out to be Luke the “ assistant manager” . The two men walked off I was stood waiting to be served. Then this strange looking woman with zero personality and multi colour hair mumbled something, I said pardon, she said where was I sat, I pointed to the booth but by this point the same Indian woman told my 12 year old to move from the booth as apparently it had been assigned to someone else. I stated no one was there for her to huff and walk off shaking her head. I stated that’s rude behaviour, I asked the woman if this was acceptable behaviour on the till, she skittles off in the back and out walked the so called assistant manager Luke who had absolutely no customer skills!!!
I can see why he is only an assistant as he said immediately without asking me what had happened “ I’ve been told you’ve been rude to staff” how rude is he. Not once did he ask me what had happened and then he lied and said that tables were assigned to customers, I told luke the assistant manager that I come as a customer each week since it had ever happened no one was ever assigned tables only for him to then change the story that tables are only assigned on Saturdays! Utter disgusting lies.
Disgraceful Luke backing staff without giving me the opportunity to speak and then the Indian woman turning her back and waking off in a huff! So appalled have told all I know. I work as a manager and see hundreds of customers a day and I will tell everyone not to go there. How dare they treat me like this!
Will never go again to this place!

Premium prices for minimum wage hellhole service

Amazing interaction with this fast food brand. The kiosk to take the order wasn't working, so after putting it all in, it wouldn't take the card. The staff were just "oh yeah that one doesn't work", literally none of them had thought to mark it out of order, just sit there and watch people have to redo everything. When I finally got an order on a different machine, the receipt didn't print, because of course that would involve effort to refill the roll. Then there were no drinks. The drink dispenser would only dispense flat warm water. The ice dispenser would only dispense warm water. Asked a member of staff, who just wandered off without saying anything. Finally, when leaving, we managed to find they'd fixed the machine to serve 2 types of drink to "almost tastes like a drink, kinda" standard. Was in a hurry to catch a train, so didn't complain. I did submit feedback to them, and of course.. got an AI response. So yeah, it's a minimum wage hellhole with minimum wage hellhole levels of service. Avoid.

No correspondence after a face to face interview

My son had a 30 minute interview in person, and they didn’t have the courtesy to say he’d not got the role. Terrible management and leadership. The least your management staff could do is inform colleagues who attend interviews, considering the time and effort they’ve made.
