Find another loan company if you can
Yes, we have been part of the scandalous behaviour of the SFE: endless times of submitting the same documents; endless telephone conversations with people who all request submission of various things; no follow up, to finally find out after 8 months that my son was successful in getting the loan. Within one week, if was revoked.
Looking at the reviews here, we escaped a shark.
Since August 2025 they keep chasing me…
Since August 2025 they keep chasing me to upload my new employment details. I've been uploading the required documents and calling them up every month. Guys on the phone always said it's alright and that they have 20 days for review but the system was sending me 'Upload your updated employment details' every month anyway. I've uploaded new bank statements every month. They never given me a reason why they aren't accepting them. On the phone a made the guy go through that document submissions form with me, and he was 'seeing' something completely different. The penalty got automatically applied, despite me trying every way possible. I have everything recorded on email, they keep harassing me with automatic emails, and text messages saying 'we've sent you an urgent email about your student loan...' to then find out they sent nothing or the same automated email. I keep logging in to my portal and there's the same thing s in the correspondence. I've been stuck in this loop for so many months now I don't know how this is legal.
Overseas Payments
Appalling to deal with when paying off loan overseas. Have to log in to a third party website, fill out a form, then manually bank transfer an amount (after tax of course). Every. Single. Month. Paying a lot of money each month and not even covering the interest.
I've called them multiple times since I…
I've called them multiple times since I left university, their staff have never updated my details. This year when I called them they couldnt pass me through security. I said to them "what kind of fraudster wants to be sent out deferment forms" Eventually I was passed through security but all the adviser did was pass me through to another department. The next person didnt listen at all. I explained the "last person had to send me an email. I just want deferment forms" he kept using the word "Protocol" I am Austistic and Dyslexic. He caused me to completely meltdown. These peoples staff training is shocking. The next day I battled through 3 departments to be advised that yes on 24th February student loans company sent a letter that I didnt receive. No they wont resend it as they arent responsible for my student loans. Where is the logic in that student loans company have been sending out letter for deferment every year since the other loan companies took the loan over including this year as the person confirmed but the wont send a repeat copy out!
Biggest British Scam
Biggest British Scam - you scumbags have penalised millions of young people for going to uni. I have been paying this off for nearly 10 years and my overall amount has gone up by 10K! I am lucky enough to borrow from family, so I don't have to pay you an extra penny than I have to, but not many are able to do that. DO NOT GET A STUDENT LOAN if you can help it, they're basically loan sharks who can change the rules whenever they want. You even made me wait until the date my next pay check comes through, so you could charge an extra £300! This debt is still going up whilst I (and others) make our monthly contributions to pay off the debt; tell me a single way that this is fair
Incompetence in Abundance
A filthy, disgusting and incompetent company who take pleasure in criminally harassing students with deceased parents. Every single administerial person in the company should be fired and blacklisted from ever working again. Nobody on the phone seems to know what to do or what is going on, and the higher-ups hide behind automated chatbot systems like cowards. The organisation is simply not fit for purpose and only care about fleecing you dry. You co-operate with them and they invent new ways of trying to get more money from you. Evil scum; abolish this abhorrent company.
Why is a yearly statement so difficult?
Why is a yearly statement so difficult?!
I have been making overseas repayments since 2020. Every year when I provide evidence of overseas income, the website doesnt work and they dont receive my emails so I have to post my payslips.
I have received 1 statement since 2020 which shows a breakdown of payments in interest.
It is impossible to know how much I have paid and how much interest I have received each year, all I know is the number is not going down much!
Surely its not that hard to create a simple tool to view each payment along with interest online, just like a bank statement.
Whenever I speak to people on the phone they're nice enough but the website is the worst website I have ever had to deal with. I'm always confused about what I owe and how to pay it and how much I've paid. Who knows if SLC have received all my payments...
Forgery
Link outsourcing has taken on a large chunk of student loans’ debt to manage. I requested my finance agreements as I don’t ever recall signing anything after they refused to accept my deferment and my signatures are forged. The signatures don’t match my name as it was 30 years ago.
Link outsourcing have stated they received my alleged agreements from SLC.
Useless
Useless, paid off loan in 7 years overseas and have been genuinely harassed weekly for 7 years. Endless emails and letters when paying over the amount required per month. Can’t imagine what they do to people who can’t afford to pay.
Dreadful bunch of timewasters that…
Dreadful bunch of timewasters that insist you contact them but then can't possibly do what they've said NEEDS doing.
Ranks as probably the worst company I’ve dealt with
Like others, would be zero if I could. Son started Uni in September, still no payment in December even though fully approved by SAAS (Scotland) in June. Robotic staff who just repeat scripts, don’t listen. Told me they didn’t have capacity to apply Equality Act 2010 to Scottish students, emailed their CEO who just batted it back to complaints team….was meant to get a call back from complaints team manager within 24 hours, never happened. I can hardly believe this shambolic company are allowed to handle loans for UK students.
The interest rates are appalling
The interest rates are appalling. Don't go to uni using this loan. It'll tie you into debt and take out of your paycheck forever. In fact, just don't go to uni unless you're planning on becoming a doctor, engineer, lawyer or accountant. The UK is done for.
Shockingly bad, appallingly slow
Appalling slow, dysfunctional company! There is no need to be so shockingly bad and yet here we are! Terrible company.
Be aware you could get absolutely…
Be aware you could get absolutely nailed on interest as much as 8% and above so if you're thinking of going to uni just to fit in be aware that it could really dig you in a hole in the future as the government in the UK is a tax machine and is designed so that you lose.
5/5 stars for taking your money and charging you ridiculous interest rates!
Utterly useless!!
Utterly useless!!! I've had troubles with accessing my online repayment account for about 4 years, I go through this loop of calling them up to get it fixed, being passed around multiple teams, kept on hold, to eventually reach a dead end where they just ignore me and never call back. I then get fed up and try again in a few months time. 4 years and counting and I've yet to get this issue sorted.
Truly appalling service when I have £70k+ debt with them that I want to manage, and who take £100s out of my salary each month. It should be illegal for a financial institution to behave this way.
Terrible service
If I could give NO Stars I would - the service is APPALLING, they either do not help or give wrong advice...the chat bot always kicks you out with NO follow up...I am now in debt because they have not paid my loan even though they have all the evidence they need
Bad service, highly unprofessional
I am a PhD student on a scholarship and therefore not liable to make loan repayments. Despite sending my contract and scholarship payslips multiple times as evidence, arrears are continuously being added to my account. I even filed a formal complaint, but received no response.
Instead of resolving the matter, the company chose to block my email address. This is highly unprofessional and shows a lack of accountability. Legitimate complaints should be addressed through proper review, not ignored.
Tanzeela was very helpful! Great member of the team Tanzy
Tanzeela was very helpful. I was on the phone to her for almost an hour but never happens with to me without me getting frustrated. She was very patient and she broke down all the payments that I need to owe back to them as I was overpaid after leaving University halfway through. She was very friendly and kept apologizing to me when not needed.
You feel like you are asking too many questions but then they are there to help. Other people just want to quickly get off the phone to either go on lunch, finish for the day (as one advisor hung up and acted like calls dropped because I knew they closed at a certain time) or they just get frustrated.
Credit to Tanzeela for just doing her job. We all or most of us work in customer service and the amount of bad reviews they get, no matter which company. It's not actually the individuals fault but the companies (depending on what the complaint is) but majority It's the customer not happy when it's not the advisors fault but they get blamed anyway.
I now have a full breakdown of what I owe, as this was never given to me in the post.
Broken System, Broken Conpany
As a parent of a student on a gap year applying for student finance the experience has been appalling. Ridiculous requirements for evidence of “connection to the UK” for a young person just on a gap year. Appalling lead times, over engineered processes and no individual empathy. It is obvious that they work to a restrictive script that has no baring on reality and individual circumstances. This excessive requirement for information for a UK citizen leads to crazily long lead times, high levels of stress and poor outcomes. All while they sit and charge punitive interest rates on the students once they do give the loans. Complaing is also pointless. Like speaking in an empty room. The company and the student loan system is broken.
