Easy in and out
Easy in and out. My car was in excellent condition and the location in the Frankfurt Terminal parking lot was helpful. Great service too and was open late.
Avoid at all costs.
Avoid at all costs.
My recent rental experience felt alarmingly close to a scam.
No damage occurred during our rental period. When we returned the vehicle, the Sixt representative inspected it, told us everything was in order, and asked me to sign on an iPad. No document was displayed on the screen, and the clear implication was that the vehicle was being returned in the same condition as it had been collected.
Twenty-four hours later, I received an email alleging new damage: a scratch of less than 10cm on the driver's door. The evidence provided was highly questionable, consisting of a close-up image of a scratch and a wider image of the vehicle in which no scratch was visible. Despite my dispute and refusal to accept liability, Sixt charged £795 to my credit card.
When I requested timestamped photographs and proof that the alleged damage related to my rental vehicle, Sixt was unable to provide it. More concerningly, the inspection document I had been asked to sign, without being shown its contents, already contained the image of the alleged damage. At no stage during the return process was this brought to my attention. I consider this a serious misrepresentation of what I was being asked to sign.
Fortunately, I had independent insurance that covered the charge. However, one of the insurer's requirements was a copy of the repair invoice. Despite repeated requests, Sixt refused to provide any documentation evidencing that repairs had been carried out.
I had used Sixt for years and previously trusted the company. Following this experience, and having since learned of a near-identical experience from another customer at Sixt Edinburgh Airport, I have completely lost confidence in their damage claims process.
Based on my experience, I would strongly advise others to rent elsewhere.
Real SCAMMERS
Impressed by the positive reviews on this website(SIXT, Birmingham Airport), I decided to make a reservation. I paid online when booking and sent a copy of my driver's license for their verification. Upon arriving at the company to pick up the car, I was informed that the vehicle had no insurance coverage at all and I had to pay an extra £146 on top of the rental fee. That meant £129.95 for the 3-day rental, plus £146.00 for insurance—a total of £274.95 for three days. Furthermore, although I had booked a car at the £40/day rate, the agent tried to offer me a £35/day car, claiming it was an upgrade over the one I had reserved. I pointed out three times that he had entered my address incorrectly into his computer, but he eventually gave up and said it was fine. I decided against taking the car and cancelled the whole thing. I am an experienced bus driver—having worked in London, Birmingham, and Coventry—so I know how these companies operate, but this particular company is full of real scammers. Be careful; once you arrive in Birmingham, you might find yourself forced to pay extra money with no other options available.

I am extremely disappointed with my experience with SIXT.
I had a prepaid booking from 27 July to 2 August for £611. I was only checking the price difference for changing the pickup date by one day. During the process, the app became unresponsive, and my booking was unexpectedly modified. The total price increased to £705, an extra £94.
I contacted customer service immediately and explained that this was not an intentional change. I was not trying to cancel my booking or take advantage of a lower price—I simply wanted my original reservation restored. Unfortunately, my request was repeatedly rejected with generic policy responses, and no one appeared willing to properly review the circumstances or consider a goodwill exception.
What disappointed me most was not just the extra charge, but the lack of flexibility and empathy. As a customer, I expected someone to investigate what happened instead of repeatedly quoting the terms and conditions without addressing my specific situation.
This experience has seriously affected my trust in SIXT. I had planned to use SIXT for future rentals, but after the way this issue was handled, I will think twice before booking again. I hope SIXT improves both its app reliability and its approach to customer service so that genuine mistakes are handled more fairly.
What a fantastic experience in Tiranë…
What a fantastic experience in Tiranë (Albania) from start to finish. The team were super friendly and explained everything very clearly. Car was superb and we couldn’t have been happier on our Balkan road trip including Kosovo and North Macedonia. Full deposit return. Many thanks
Sixt are the best!
I've used lots of hire companies over the years and Sixt standout as being the best, most hassle-free provider. They do maybe send one too many emails, and they also like to suggest you have to pay extra for use of CarPlay when making a booking online, when you don't, however, despite those two minor niggles, I would definitely hire with Sixt again. Very impressed, plus I got a free upgrade (from manual to automatic) this most recent time, which was very nice and really improved my overall enjoyment of the vehicle. Thanks!
CONSUMER LEGISLATION DOESN’T EXIST FOR SIXT
We are a couple of almost pensioners who booked a SIXT compact SUV to drive 65 miles from the airport to visit our son on a Fri late afternoon and back again on the Sunday evening a couple of days later. Our son drove us in his own car as planned in between. The day after arriving home SIXT took more than double the amount of the original booking from our bank account claiming we had purchased upgrades. We had not and requested a refund of the full difference, evidencing why. Their invoicing demonstrates a catalogue of errors: Incorrect day and time of return (after we were already home !), different prices for different upgrades and wrong mileages. They eventually admitted the mileage and return errors, yet more than a month later haven’t even refunded that part of the overcharge let alone the rest. Their entire case rests on my husband’s signature on the single piece of paper the operator gestured he should sign as he was handed the key. There is nothing written on that sheet of paper referring in any way to us or any contract, or any sign it might have been one page of a document containing more. It is a generic list of countries the hire vehicle we were about to collect is allowed to drive. It doesn’t even have the make or model just the registration.

The staff at SIXT at Belfast City were exceptional
They helped me extend my car rental after my plans changed and went over and above to facilitate the change
Bergerac airport SIXT 05/07/26
From the beginning, the booking of the car and associated bits was easy and I was kept upto date on what vehicle I would have. When collecting the car, Seb (SIXT representative) explained everything thoroughly and made sure I was happy before we left. Returning the car was really easy. The car was clean and tidy when collected. Had no issues at all and would use SIXT again
Poor service
They gave me the car early as it was convenient for them, then charged me an extra day rental which they refused to credit.
Left by side of road for five hours
I hired a car from Sixt in Shepherd’s Bush, London, and drove to Stow-on-the-Wold in the Cotswolds. About 30 minutes before we were due to check in to our accommodation, I got a flat tyre.
I opened the boot, removed all our suitcases, and was shocked to discover that there was no spare tyre or tyre repair kit. Sixt had removed both from the vehicle.
What should have been a simple 10-minute delay turned into a five-hour ordeal. I tried calling the customer helpline, but we were in an area with almost no mobile reception. Thankfully, a passing cyclist kindly let me use his phone. Even then, I spent around 10 minutes being transferred between different departments before finally reaching someone who could assist.
Meanwhile, my daughter became increasingly distressed and was in tears after waiting for more than two hours. Despite repeated calls, Sixt still hadn’t arranged for anyone to come and deal with the flat tyre. We were left stranded on the roadside for five hours because Sixt has a policy of removing spare tyres and tyre repair kits from its vehicles. I still have no idea why this policy exists, but it completely disrupted the start of our holiday and caused unnecessary stress and frustration.
What made the experience even worse was Sixt’s customer service afterwards. I lodged a formal complaint and was promised that someone would investigate the incident and get back to me. No one ever did.
When I returned to Australia, I followed up again. The representative admitted they couldn’t explain why the vehicle had no spare tyre or repair kit because they simply didn’t know. Instead of providing answers or taking responsibility, I was offered a credit note towards a future rental. After the way my family and I were treated, I have no intention of renting from Sixt again, so the credit is worthless to me.
This experience ruined the first day of our holiday. The combination of an incomprehensible policy, poor roadside assistance, and unacceptable customer service means I will never use Sixt again and cannot recommend them to anyone.
Great service, car and no upsell
The pick up and drop off process was very easy and efficient. The car was better than expected, very new and clean. There were no unexpected extra costs added or upsell, which you get with other rental companies. I would definitely use Sixt again.
Reliable, professional, great service...and a nice car!
We've used Sixt for our holiday car rental for 3 years now. They're always reliable, professional and the staff are excellent. This year we hired from Sixt in Pula and had excellent service.
Sixt excellence
Pick up was expedited and was incredibly efficient. The vehicle allocated was absolutely excellent. Drop off was simplicity itself. Excellent experience.
Excellent car rental company
Seamless process to collect my car, which was delivered right outside the office instead of me having to go hunt for it in some car park. Staff that served me was excellent in every way.
Picked up car at Split Airport
Picked up car at Split Airport. Signage to car rentals was good and Sixt desk clear. Polite, friendly and efficient staff. Advised of upgrades available and cost but no pressure to change. Advised where Sixt rep in car park could be found. No problem as clearly signed again. Rep took us to car and went round it with us. Explained car controls. Very good, clean and economic car.
Return was easy, followed the link provided to off site car park. Car quickly checked and signed off. Rep then drove us to airport in the car. We had not taken their insurance and no pressure to take it.
Rented Sixt at Inverness
I recently rented a car from Sixt at Inverness Airport.
The car had quite a bit of scratches etc even before i rented it. Sixt passed it onto me without checking/noting/photographing it. And finally i was blamed for it after the return of the car. This is after i had shared the photos to Sixt just after renting it, via email. It shows that Sixt isn't as professional as expected, and does not have internal co-ordination as my photos weren't considered before blaming me. I felt thoroughly disappointed and extremely sad, having already given inputs.
2. It was very difficult to find the drop off point at Newcastle airport, with no proper instructions and Google maps leading to a completely wrong road with the post code provided.
3. I washed the car twice before delivery, told the drop off counter staff the same and also told them that its raining so check before car becomes dirty at the lot. Later, i get the report saying the exterior is dirty!
Never gonna take Sixt again.
The Staff at Gran Canaria Sixt was very…
The Staff at Gran Canaria Sixt was very helpful. Very prompt and customer focused. The car I had hired was not ready but this did not delay anything as the staff was really helpful and had me in a replacement vehicle instantly. Would highly recommend and will definitely be using again
Sixt at Bergamo airport use high pressure sales tactics.
I hired a car from Sixt at Bergamo Airport, Italy. The staff used high pressure sales tactics to try and persuade me to upgrade to a more expensive hire vehicle. I had hired a BMW2 series active tourer, because we need a boot with over 400 litres of space. At the sales counter we were told by Sixt staff that the BMW vehicle was not available, and we were offered a Cupra Formentor hybrid. Which had less than 350 L of boot space. I told the member of staff that I needed a vehicle with over 400l of boot space. I was told by the member of sales staff that the only vehicle they could offer, which had over 400 L of boot space, was a premium vehicle, which would cost an extra €39 per day (The member of staff stated the BMW2 series active tourer was not classed as a premium vehicle by Sixt). I could not pay the extra, which resulted in one of our suitcases being placed over the legs of one of my family members on the back seat, on our 1hr 30 min journey to Lake Como. I didn’t ask for a refund, as the Cupra is a cheaper hire vehicle than the BMW2, but neither was I offered one.
Absolutely dreadful company
Absolutely dreadful company, they charged me for a parking ticket that was issued before I pick the car up and my rental started. You would have thought once they made an obvious mistake like that that they would apologise and refund the money but they have done
neither
