Bad attitude, do not use.
Bad attitude, bad service. They claim old damage as new. They are only after your 1000 Euro blocked on your credit card, as where the policy stated 650 Euros. They claim old damage wasn't as bad as it is now, so it is new damage. They never ever repair damage. They keep on fooling customers. When you return the car, usually you need to catch a flight so you don't have the time to hang about. However, I was leaving the next day. It was impossible for staff to check details on the computer. I asked for the manager. "He is coming". After 2 hours waiting, no manager. Asking again and again. Finally he turned up. They checked the recorded damage on the computer (suddenly it was possible) and he had no other option than to agree it was not caused by me or that an existing damage had been made worse. Staff were rude and obnoxious. My advise: stay away.
Bad service
We rented a car already in April for a fair price at economycarrentals.com but................ 19 june Brindisi airport.
We did not recieve a car at Brindisi airport at 21u30(our flight was one our delayed) because the man at the desk told us our credit card did not work .We tested our card in a ATM but the card worked fine. The man gave us a telephone nr to call his broker but that nr(that was the only nr he had) did not work(00442075588032) We think the amount we had to pay went over the max card level and asked the (unfriendly) man behind the desk to split it in a rent amount and a deposit amount so that we could pay, but he refused. Our contract was worthless so we had to go with a Taxi to Lecce because we had to check in our B_B before 23u00.The next day we rented with the same card without problems a car In Lecce (Hertz Noleggio auto-Furgoni) understand that every thing was very stressful and a bad start of our fly and drive hollyday through Puglia . Further we payed already €155_44 ahead 3 april 2022 for a car we did not recieve. We expect the amount of €155_44 to be refunded to us_ given the named issues but we are still waiting for a response from economycarrentals.
The mafia is still alive in Sicily
The mafia is still alive in Sicily, this company is a prime example of it. Can't get the car, employee at the desk refuses to cancel the reservation, she says we have to call a phone number. She deliberately mislead us by providing invalid phone numbers, and the client service uses bad faith and refuses to provide any refund. A scandal, just avoid this company.
The worst car rental ever
The worst car rental ever! We booked through Ryanair and paid extra for full coverage insurance. They claimed that the insurance that we had paid was not from them and requested an additional €200. We refused and they demanded to block €650 in our credit card, otherwise they wouldn't give the car that we had already paid for. They gave us a different car than the one we had chosen and paid for and the luggage wouldn't fit. When we complained, they rudely said "if you want an upgrade, you should pay for an upgrade". We didn't request for an upgrade, simply for the car we had paid for. The staff is very rude and slow. We waited 45 minutes for our turn to be served and then it took them 1 and half hour to arrange the paperwork. The car they gave us was not cleaned and sanitized. THE WORST EXPERIENCE EVER. Don't rent a car from this company
DON'T RENT!
We had our booking cancelled because we picked up later than the time we had given. And they kept our money. They said that our booking 'is like an air ticket - too late and you miss it'. No it's not. It's more like a hotel room. It doesn't fly away because you arrive later. I have never experienced anything like that and they are obviously fraudsters. They know, that nobody read a passus 50 lines into their disclaimer saying that the agreed time is the 'precise time' you have to pick up the car. All other companies hold your car until you arrive (within reasonable time the same day) so SicilyByCar very well know that nobody expect this crazy and senseless rule.
Avoid at all costs!
Long story short; We got completely cheated out of our 200€ deposit.
And with 1 bar of fuel missing we were charged an extra 119€ on top of that as well.
So, a rental that should have been around 300-400€, ended up costing us over 600€.
If anyone bothered to read the small print on their contracts, these scam artists would have zero customers.
Cheated by Sicilybycars in Malta (Seems we are not the first…)
We have just been cheated by this car rental company in Malta, we have hired a car for one week and we have had absolutely no incidents, either driving or parking, we have been extremely careful as we always are, but when returning the car they have charged us 220euros for a tiny preexisting mark in the bumper (in fact it even had black painting on it!). Never, ever again with this company of swindlers.
Good experience after I was directed to SicilybyCar by Ryanair.
I was directed to SicilybyCar by Ryanair, though honestly I'd not heard of them before. Was able to hire a good size family car for very reasonable rate. At Malta airport the staff were very friendly (Not how some of the reviews I'd read would suggest but this is MALTA and not ITALY). We were kindly upgraded to a larger car when the staff saw how much luggage we had - and even if the car had a small problem a couple of days later (just the tyre pressure light) - their staff were extremely helpful (especially Jesmael) and swapped the car right away. Considering that we would be using the car just for a few trips we decided against the full insurance and took our chances with the deposit (a reasonable 650€) on the card. The damage report on the car didn't highlight every little knock but we were advised to take photos - though in the end we didn't need to use them. Checking the car back in was very smooth and stress free.
A week after we got home (today actually) the full amount was unblocked. They keep this just in case of any parking/speeding tickets (up to 10 working days). So, all in all, I can only say our experience was very good and we'd definately use them again. Kevin (Como, IT).
