Hello Angela,

Thank you for responding to the message we sent to you via Trustpilot and providing your email address. However, we cannot find a Shopper Discounts & Rewards membership record with the email address you provided.

So that we can search further for your record and assist you, please provide us with the following details: your UK postal code, the last four digits of the credit/debit card number that the charges appear on, and any other email address you may have and the name of any family member or friend who may have used your credit/debit card. Please send these details in an email to mary@shopperdiscountsandrewards.co.uk.

In the meantime, we can provide you with the following information about Shopper Discounts & Rewards.

Shopper Discounts and Rewards is an online savings programme for people who shop online regularly. The membership benefits include 10% cashback at over 1000 online retailers, 20% off popular gift cards and a monthly cashback reward.

It’s free for the first 30 days so you can try it out, and after that there is a monthly fee. More details can be found at www.shopperdiscountsandrewards.co.uk.

After a 30-day free trial, there's a monthly membership fee which is billed to the credit or debit card registered with us during the enrolment process. Most members sign up after completing a purchase at the website of one of our marketing partners. A banner will appear offering cashback on your next purchase and clicking this banner will result in our online enrolment form displaying. All prospective members need to enter their name, residential address, email address, and credit or debit card details for billing, and they also need to create and verify a password then agree to our Terms of Service.

We hope you provide us with more details to identify the membership record joined with your credit/debit card so that we can fully address your concern and resolve this matter for you.

Kind regards,
Shopper Discounts & Rewards

Happy Member

I have been a member for 10 years. My experience has been really good. I have got more cashback than I paid for the benefits. Earlier when it was cheque system I struggled. But once it became direct account payment, it has been smooth. I am really happy with their services.

SCAM BEWARE.

16/3/23
BE WARNED THIS COMPANY ARE SCAMMERS. THE REALLY BAD PART IS WE DONT REALIZE THAT STANDARD COMPANIES SUCH AS SIMPLYBE J D WILLIAMS ARGOS ETC ARE SHARING OUR DATA WITH THEM. OUR DATA IS PRIVATE AS FAR AS IM CONCERNED. NOT TO BE SHARED WITHOUT MY PERMISSIOM WHICH AT NO POINT DID I GIVE. ITS AGAINST THE DATA PROTECTION ACT AS I TOLD THEM ON THE PHONE AND BY E MAIL. THE SUPPOSED MEMBERSHIP I NEVER SOUGHT ASKED FOR NOR AGREED TO HAS BEEN CANCELLED. A SMALL 3 MONTH PAYMENT IS SUPPOSEDLY GOING IN MY BANK SHORTLY AND THE REST RECOVERED MONTHLY OVER A PERIOD OF TIME. REMAINS TO BE SEEN IF THAT HAPPENS. IF IT DOESNT I SHALL BE TAKING IT FURTHER AS FAR AS IM CONCERNED ITS STEALINF FROM SOMEONE S PRIVATE BANK ACCOUNT. DONT LET THEM GET AWAY WITH THAT. UPDATE 20/3/23 MONEY IS NOW SLOWLY BEING REFUNDED THROUGH MY BANK ACCOUNT. SO FAR ONLY A PORTION OF AMOUNT TAKEN BUT A START. WHICH PROVES THEY KNOW DARN WELL THEY SHOULDNT HAVE TAKEN THIS MONEY IN THE FIRST PLACE. 22/3/23 SECOND UPDATE. YESTERDAY AND TODAY THE REST OF WHAT IS OWED TO ME IS BEING PAID INTO MY BANK. I THINK A BIT MORE MAYBE TOMORROW AS I DISCOVERED TO MY HORROR THE AMOUNT WAS MORE THAN ID REALIZED TAKEN AND OVER A LONGER PERIOD OF TIME. I DO NOT KNOW HOW I DIDNT PICK UP ON IT AS I REGULARLY CHECK MY BANK ACCOUNTS. HOWEVER THE PAYMENTS ARE MONTHLY AND SMALL SO I ASSUMED WERE E BAY TYPE PURCHASES UNTIL I LOOKED FURTHER. SO EASY TO BE DUPED LIKE THIS. FURTHER UPDATE 21/4/23 THE LAST PORTION OF MONEY OWED BACK TO ME WAS DELAYED. SUPPOSEDLY A PROBLEM WITH MY BANK. I VERY MUCH DOUBT THAT. APPARENTLY ITS GOING TO BE IN NEXT WEEK SOMETIME. IF SO THEN THIS ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE WILL BE OVER ONCE MY DETAILS ARE THEN DELETED FROM THEIR FILES. I STRONGLY STILL DISPUTE EVERYTHING TJIS COMPANY ARE SAYING ABOUT SIGNING UP AS I NEWVER DID. NEITHER WOULD I USE A COMPANY LIKE THIS. I MAY HAVE TICKED SOME BOX THEN THIS IS HOW THEY GET TO YOUR DETAILS I THINK. THEY WILL NEVER ADMIT THAT HOWEVER. WE CANT ALL BE LIARS ABOUT THIS SUPPOSED SIGN UP SERVICE. THEIR ARE HUNDREDS OF US BEING CAUGHT UP IN THIS WITHOUT OUR KNOWLEDGE. I NEVER RECIEVED ANY E MAILS TO ALERT ME UNTIL I CONTACTED THEM RECENTLY. THEY HAVE LIED AND SAID THEY SENT THEM. NO THEY DIDNT IVE CHECKED WAY BACK/JUNK MAIL ETC. I ONLY HAVE ONE E MAIL ADDRESS. HOWEVER AGAIN I GUESS WE ARE ALL LYING AGAIN. SINCE NO ONE ELSE RECIEVED THEM EITHER. READ THE REVIEWS AND BE VERY CAREFUL FOLKS. ITS A SHOCKING STATE OF AFFAIRS. 1/5/23 FURTHER UPDATE.
THE LAST PORTION OF MONEY TAKEN FROM MY ACCOUNT HAS NOW BEEN REPAID. THE NIGHTMARE IS FINALLY OVER. ALL I CAN SAY IS PLEASE BE EXTEMLEY CAREFUL NOT TO TICK ANY BOXES/OR AGREE TO MONEY OFF PURCHASES WHEN BUYING FROM ANOTHER COMPANY. ITS WHEN YOU PAY I THINK THIS OCCURS. JUST DONT RISK IT.
FURTHER MORE IN REPLY TO THEIR RESPONSE BELOW ITS UTTER B S FOLKS IM AFRAID. NO SIGNING UP BY ME. NO E MAILS/ NO INFORMATION OF A SUPPOSED MEMBERSHIP EVER SENT TO MY E MAIL ADDRESS AND YES I CHECKED WAY BACK SCROLLING PLUS JUNK MAIL BOXES. DICIDE FOR YOURSELF WHO IS TELLING THE TRUTH. HUNDREDS OF SCARED PEOPLE CONNED OUT OF MONTHY PAYMENTS FOR A SERVICE THEY NEVER USED OR KNEW ABOUT. OR AN UNSRUPULOUS UNDERHAND DECIEPTFUL COMPANY IN WHOM ITS BEST INTEREST IS TO NEVER CONTACT YOU BY THESE SUPPOSED E MAILS NO ONE EVER RECIEVES?
NO THEY KEEP THINGS QUIET AND JUST STEAL YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY EACH MONTH HOPING YOU WONT NOTICE. CHECK YOUR BANK ACCOUNTS VERY CAREFULLY. IF YOU SEE ANY MONTHLY PAYMENTS TO SHOPPERDISC OR SHOPPERDISCOUNT THEN YOU TOO HAVE BEEN CONNED SADLY.
I CONSIDER IT MY DUTY TO FORE WARN PEOPLE ABOUT THIS NASTY BUSINESS. FRAUD OFFICERS AT BANKS ARE MONITORING SO ITS JUST A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE THIS IS UNCOVERED PUBLICALLY NOW. MS L D PHELPS

Fraud, fraud, fraud. Get out quick.

We found our credit card was being debited £10 per month for membership of this company, of whom we had no recollection joining. They will not respond to emails, and we have cancelled the credit card. How do they get away with this fraud?

response to their reply:

Thank you for your response to my emails via the trust pilot web site.

I have given you the whole card number of the credit card you were debiting for several years. How can you possibly have no record? We have now cancelled the card.

Now, if you are a legitimate company, why the complete silence over the years you were taking our money? We have had no email or post information from you, with details such as:
__our membership number
__the names of these thousands of companies who will give us discounts
__how to go about claiming discounts
__and these 'monthly cashback rewards'. Why have we never received one despite losing £10 to you every month for over three years?

If you really were an honest company, you would have supplied us with all this information. Your aim is obviously to get people to tick that box without reading all the small print. Then sitting back and watching the money flow in.

I am angry and upset about what you have done, and continue to do. I intend contacting every company that displays your notice at the end of a transaction, and pointing out what a corrupt company this is, and suggesting they disassociate themselves.

And I realise this email will be read by someone far down the pecking order in the company, who has no responsibility for the corruption of the whole structure. I hope you can leave soon and work for a more ethical company.

Resolution update

Update to the review below:
After corresponding with the shoppers discount people by email, to my surprise, they agreed to reimburse the entire amount of the monthly debits which was by now £1380! I've checked my balance with Lloyds & the credit is in my account. No claim form was required. A very welcome outcome. I've given them 3 stars now, for the resolution.

after reading many reviews here from tech savvy people included, I'm feeling marginally less disgusted with myself for not noticing the £10 taken out of my Lloyd's account since January 2011! Useful points were : one reviewer was alerted by the Lloyds bank fraud department. I will now also contact that department to complain that they did not alert me. The 2nd point: a large proportion of reviewers had no recollection or proof of joining this shoppers discount scheme. I spotted the £10 debit because I've now largely stopped using Lloyd's credit card due to it no longer doing air miles. The date of the 1st debit could be traced thanks to my collecting all the paper credit card statements. The latest email response from SD last week, was to send me a copy of the blank form that they say I completed. I have now emailed them for proof of my completed form. Also, will apply for the claim form mentioned in answers to these reviews.

Shopper Discount & Reward scam

UPDATE (29 August 2022)
Following the reply from Shopper Discounts and Rewards (below) I eventually received an e-mail message from them in July in which they admitted they owed me £1,560 and promised to credit my account "within the next 3 to 5 working days"...
You may not be surprised to learn that, one month later, no money has been credited to my bank account despite frequent requests for it to be paid.

I recently received a phone call from the Fraud Department of Lloyds Bank drawing my attention to a £10 monthly debit card payment to something shown as WLY*SHOPPERDISC. The payments appeared to have been made for more than a year. The man from Lloyds Bank asked me if I knew what it was for. I replied that I had no idea; indeed, I was not even aware that I had ever agreed to them being made. I put an immediate stop to the payments and began investigating further.
Checking back through my bank statements, I discovered that the first payment had been made in October 2017. That meant 55 monthly payments of £10 amounting to £550 to an organisation callings itself Shopper Discounts & Rewards. Their website claims to offer ‘unrivalled cashback and online discounts’. Cashback payments, it says, are paid direct into my bank. I have been unable to find any record of such payments however.
When I dialled the telephone number for their Customer Services, I was put through to a call centre in the Philippines who were unable to find any account in my name or with my bank account details. I provided them with copies of the relevant bank statements by e-mail and they were still unable to ‘locate my membership’.
Repeated attempts to contact the customer services by email resulted in the same response: ‘Unfortunately we have still not been able to locate your membership with the details provided in your email. Please contact us on our freephone number below for further assistance’. Their registered address in the UK is Sentinel House, Airspeed Road, Portsmouth PO3 5RF. But any attempt to communicate with them is met by a denial that I have ever had an account with them.

The only way you could have become a member and we could have received your details and your authorisation to charge your account is that you manually entered your details into the signup form and agreed to the Terms & Conditions which were made very clear on the signup form.

You joined the Shopper Discounts & Rewards programme following a purchase you made at www.direct-golf.co.uk. After your purchase, you were offered the chance to claim a cashback reward on your next purchase through the site. Clicking on this offer took you through to the Shopper Discounts & Rewards sign-up page, where it is clear that in order to claim the cashback on offer you must first become a member of the programme. The details required on the sign-up page include: your name, your email address, your postal address, a password for your membership, and your credit or debit card details for the monthly fee. It is mentioned in several places on the sign-up page that following the first 30 days of free membership, there is a monthly charge – this is why you were required to enter your credit/debit card details at this stage. Since you didn't cancel your membership when the free trial period ended, you were charged the monthly membership charge.

Upon checking your membership, your account is already cancelled. Therefore, your card will no longer be charged.

Same story as everyone else

Like everyone else leaving reviews, I have also been making payments to this company that I had never heard of, without my knowledge, for over 10 years. I had noticed the unusual ID on my bank statement once before, but at the time I thought it was my Spotify subscription as all my direct debits go out on the same day.

Absolutely no attempt has been made by this company to remind me that I am a member. Had they at any point sent a letter, email, text, carrier pigeon etc. to let me know about the great offers I've apparently been entitled to, I would have cancelled immediately. However, from their silence I can assume they realised how much it is in their best interests to keep quiet about it.

Having spoke on the phone with customer services, I have been informed that I am entitled to a full refund upon the completion of a claim form which I eagerly await. It would seem I am owed in excess of £1200.

I must at this point out that the gentleman I spoke with, who gave his name as Ernie, was incredibly polite, diligent, patient, helpful, and informative, and the rating above in no way reflects how he handled my call.

I'm a lawyer working in financial litigation, I deal with nonsense like this every day and I feel like an absolute moron for having been defrauded like this, but you can be sure I will get back every single penny.

Update: despite several requests, I have not received the form I was promised that would, supposedly, allow me to claim back all payments. I won't stop trying and will escalate if necessary.

I too have been misled. I await a response from Pet Supermarket as to how this has happened.

After googling this I too realised like others who have posted comments that I have been paying £15 per month since October 2014 for something I didn't realise I was signed up to. I am awaiting a response from Pet Supermarket. Apparently I signed up for this in October 2014. I have no recollection of this, I don't use Pet Supermarket. I have never received any communication, email, phone call from this Company. I have emailed them and am awaiting a response. £15 per month since October 2014 is a lot of money I cannot afford. I have managed to cancel this £15 debit with Shopper Discounts & Rewards.

A familiar tale

A familiar tale, I have also found that shoppers discounts have somehow piggybacked my bank details from some outfit or other and since 2016 have removed £975 from my bank account. I have cancelled my membershit though like most of the people on this thread I categorically did not knowingly join this scheme. I have asked that they supply me with the name of the company they pay money to in order to do this. I’m still waiting for a response. I want to register with this company my disgust at this breach in trust.
I have recieved 3 months money back and am waiting for my emails to be returned. SD are asking me have I ever used discounts or their services. I have not but I would imagine they know this.
I, like everyone else here am amazed that this is apparently legal and all I can do is rely on the good will of B a company who did this in the first place.
I do however think it’s my civic duty to contact trading standards, the Fraud helpline, my local MP Martin B Lewis the Guardian consumer helpline and social media in general to publicise what we all know is happening here.
I look forward to my response from Mary telling me that this is all above board and normal. It’s been a couple of weeks and I’m settling in for the long haul to recover my money.

An account I didn't know i had and its cost me a small fortune

Well what can i say, only today i found out this company has been taking £15 a month from my credit card since 2014 ( yes i feel stupid for not spotting it). Somehow it was set up from a purchase i made however I`ve never used the service ( as i didn't know i had it) so i called and they have verbally said I`m able to get a full refund, however I`ve only received a £45 refund (which hasn't hit my bank yet). Not holding my breath i will get any of the back payments but lets hope they honor it, as its been verbally agreed on a recorded call, but no surprise I`ve not had any email to confirm this.
Edit 1 After a few calls and emails, I have an email to inform me a full refund will be given as i have not used the service, I will update again when this is completed

This should be a zero star review !!

(This should be a no star review but the site doesn't allow it ) I am yet another person that this company caught out with some kind of fraudulent sign up process, via a online train ticket booking service.
I only found out by checking through old bank statements and was curious about the £10 a month that had been going out of my account since 2011 (ref wlyshopper) On identifying who the company was and contacting them, they go through the normal excuse that I had agreed to the terms, even though I assured them that I would never sign up to a service such as this. Obviously they couldn't actually show me any evidence of me agreeing to anything, or ever using the service. After several phone calls and an intitial offer of a £30 refund, they eventually agreed to refund the full amount (over £1100) However after receiving approximately half of what they owe me they are now proving very difficult to contact and aren't replying to my emails. This company seriously need investigating by the FSA and or Martin Lewis, BBC Watchdog etc. I would recommend anybody that uses online shopping of any kind, to check their bank accounts and make sure they haven't been enrolled in something they know nothing about.

Fraudulent sign up processes

Fraudulent sign up processes, they need to be under regulation / reviewed on their acquisition practices. Apparently i signed up via toy r us website on 2014. (No I didn’t). As a director of digital marketing I am pretty digital savvy. I did not sign up to this. I am contacting toys R us to ask them to consider who they partner with. After an hour of research I find myself on a call to the Philippines, but the company registered in Switzerland, they have taken over £800 and I have had no value back from the business. Building the case today. Be warned.

Absolutely disgusted to discover today…

Absolutely disgusted to discover today that this company had been taken £10 from my bank account every month since September 2011, I only noticed it today because I haven’t spent anything on online shopping this month, my husband has recently passed away and always handled my bank account, he would’ve thought it was just something I was spending online. After finding out who the company were googling them and then phoning them it took them 20 minutes to even find out who I was, then I was given quite an abrupt answer to say they could give me three months back, I did inform them that if I don’t receive immediate action I will take them to court, this is obviously a huge scam I don’t even know this company and I’ve never used this system, they sign you up without you even knowing

Great Site.

I have used this site for a few years now, and it’s great. You can easily claim back the monthly fee when you make a purchase with any of it’s partner sites, and the cashback received can be up to 10% off. You can also purchase discounted gift cards. What’s not to like!
Customer services always helpful too if needed.

I didn't intentionally sign up and only…

I didn't intentionally sign up and only realised after 5 years of monthly £10 debits, (ridiculous, I know but as they were £10, I thought it was a cashpoint.)
I called up and they were very helpful, refunding the whole £620 in less than a week as I hadn't used the service.

I did give this site 1 star but theve…

I did give this site 1 star but theve just gave me a full refund within a week.
They had been taking £15 from my account since 2014. I didn’t notice it coming out monthly because I had lots of other direct debits coming out. Anyway when I finally noticed it and google the company of which I had never heard of I panicked. Apparently I clicked on a cash back scheme on funky pigeon. I don’t ever recall clicking on it but I do use Funky pigeon regularly.
I sent them an email and filled out a quick online form and they refunded me £700. You will get your money back as long as you’ve never claimed their discounts or rewards.

Positive experience

I have used SD&R for several years now.I had seen their offer several times where the monthly cashback was reliant on you making a purchase from the same site as you originally signed up from. My offer which it appears is now standard gives you your monthly fee back as long as you make a online purchase from any of the shops linked to their site. Its especially great for holidays - last summer a £2000 holiday was reduced in price by £200 which was really useful. I havent always checked to see if SD&R offer cashback , but have got into the habit of doing so now. I have forgotten to put claims through sometimes for the monthly fee reimbursement, but I have saved significantly more than I have paid on those monthly fees. If you travel by train regularly as well, an additional 10% saving is good. You can also link it to savings offered by cashback cards such as the spree card - that gives me a total saving of 17 or 18 % at Boots for example.

Beggars Belief!

Beggars Belief!
I'd say avoid at all costs - but it seems you don't even know you are enrolled! This should NOT be happening in UK!
Much like many others on here, I was signed up without ever knowing, and SD had basically been taking £15 a month off me for ages. As someone who does a lot of random and international shopping, their fairly innocuous little amount and words on the statement didn't really register.
I'm claiming back through my credit card (omy, never forget to use a credit card online! So worth it!) and will indeed inform Trading Standards, FO, etc. I think we also need to call out the companies who actually partner with these people and allow them to do this. In my case it was Figleaves - they'll be left a suitable review when I know for sure! UPDATE: Trading Standards are so concerned about this company, that I was assigned a named contact who dealt with me personally and facilitated them refunding my money in Dec 2018.
UPDATE 2: Thank you for your reply SD, which is untrue. If it were, I doubt there would be so many reviews and complaints saying similar things all over the web, or that special interest would have been taken in my case by the Trading Standards Office, or indeed you would have been subject to a class action in the USA, the details of which are clearly in the public domain - and yes it is relevant because it is the same company and the same practices have happened in both countries.
UPDATE 3 I stand by what I said - my details were passed to this organisation without me ever signing up. I DID NOT sign up, and them sending emails showing what the sign-in page looks like is not proof at all. It is clearly my word against theirs, as they seem determined to engage in a battle of words on Trustpilot. So this is the last I will say - I strongly urge potential customers to do their own research and decide who they believe.

Allegations in the Complaint:
The lawsuit alleges that the Defendants enrolled consumers in certain Programs in the course of online retail transactions without obtaining sufficient authorization or consent, and thereafter wrongly charged fees for membership benefits.
The lawsuit claims that after consumers make a purchase at one of 75 or more e-commerce partner sites-including movie tickets from Fandango.com-a pop-up window appears promising a $10 cash savings from the partner site for their next purchase. When consumers click the window to redeem the offer, their personal information, including credit or debit card number, is automatically transferred to Webloyalty; described as "Coupon Click Fraud". Webloyalty then automatically bills consumers' credit cards a $10 monthly fee for membership in its Reservation Rewards program on a 30-day trial basis. The complaint further alleges that Webloyalty then engages in a "bait and switch" tactic informing consumers via e-mail that they can only cancel their membership by contacting the company within 30 days or be charged the recurring monthly fee

Hi Lisa,

Additional Reply 10 February 2018:
Hi Lisa,

The U.S. class action you mention is not relevant to the UK Shopper Discounts & Rewards programme. The only way a UK consumer can become a Shopper Discounts & Rewards member is to manually enter their details on the sign-up page and agree to the Terms of Service of the programme. There was no data passed in your sign-up process for the programme or for any other UK consumer who signed up. If you review the copy of the Shopper Discounts & Rewards sign-up page that we sent to you, it demonstrates how a consumer must manually enter their details into the sign-up page and agree to Terms of Service which are made clear on the sign-up page.

Kind regards,
The Shopper Discounts & Rewards team
