Avoid this dealership at all costs

Avoid this dealership at all costs, bought a car from them for 6k developed 2k worth of problems with first 2 months and they are just ignoring me completely, horrible service.

Even tried to skim a key from me saying there was only 1 when they delivered it even though at the time of deposit they swore they were 2 and when pressured the 2nd key magicly turned up.

Stay clear if you value customer service.

Would I buy from them again? Yes

Before writing a review, I wanted to wait until the car had done some mileage to give a fair review. The car has now done 4k and has been great. There was an issue just after we bought it, but the guys and girls at Selective got it sorted and went beyond normal opening hours to allow me to travel to pick it up once the repair had been carried out (under warranty).

Before we bought the car they MOT'd it, any advisories got sorted, the car was clean and as described, the test drive was fine, then there was an issue a couple of days after I picked it up. We worked together to work through the process of identifying the issue, however, communication wasn't as fast as I would have liked, hence 4 stars, BUT also to be fair to Selective the main dealer it was at (to diagnose the issue) was the same, so they would receive 4 starts too.

Overall, it was a positive experience. They just need to work on the communication a little more to earn 5 stars from me.

Brought a car here in June 2024 worst mistake

Brought a car in June 2024.
Apparently passed MOT with no advisories. However take it to a garage in August and there is so much wrong with it. Cracked suspension, bad breaks, bad tyres, leaky fuel and more. They just fob you off to the warranty people. Absolutely usless, wasted my money on a car that is dieing. cannot tell you to go elsewhere enough

I can't recommend Harry and this dealership enough!

I recently purchased a car from this car dealership, and I can't say enough good things about him! From the moment I walked onto the lot, Harry made me feel comfortable and confident in my car buying experience. He took the time to listen to what I was looking for, and helped me find the perfect car for my needs and budget.

Harry was incredibly knowledgeable about the cars on the lot, and was able to answer all of my questions in a way that made sense to me. He never once pressured me into buying something that I wasn't comfortable with, and was always patient and understanding as I weighed my options.

When it came time to discuss financing and payment options, Harry went above and beyond to make sure that I got a fair deal. He worked tirelessly to find me the best interest rate and payment plan possible, and I never once felt like I was being taken advantage of.

Overall, I can't recommend Harry and this dealership enough! If you're in the market for a new car, do yourself a favor and go see Harry. You won't be disappointed! Five stars all around. Thank you again Harry & team x

Avoid at all cost!

Avoid at all cost!
All started well at the point of sale with a very friendly Harry but turned out the sales speech was all porkies. Went from trouble to trouble with the car from day 1, costing us a lot of money on top of an already expensive purchase price and a lot of time without the car while being fixed by a proper garage. SMD was completely unhelpful with all of it.
Bear in mind Selective Motors Direct is not a garage, they just resale cars from a yard and hide behind a supposedly warranty that actually covers nothing cause they are more exceptions to the cover than things it covers for (Autogroup). Was given an invoice of supposedly replaced parts such as filters which had to be replaced a few months after purchase after being stranded on the side of the road. A very long and painful story with this car which is still causing us troubles to this day 12 months down the line. Save yourself the troubles and buy your car from a proper garage instead.

Edit following the reply from the seller:

You are the dishonest party Sir. When we bought the car and I pointed out all the oil stains throughout the engine you mentioned the leak had been fixed but wasn't washed and that you would wash it before delivery. Received the car in the same poor state not washed and the car leaked oil all over our car park during the first week of use! When I raised the issue with you you sent me to the warranty company which we involved from day one and we followed the process to the letter. Once we had secured their authorisation for a 1h diagnostic we brought it to our local garage who advised after an hour that they would most likely need to remove the engine to figure out where it was leaking from. The warranty company didn't want to cover this but suggested we proceed at our own cost as they might have been able to cover the fix. It took over 4h of labour to disassemble the car engine and find the leak from a previous injector repair (which according to the garage was a botched job). When the garage contacted Autogroup to tell them the problem and that the fix would be to put sealant to stop the leak the warranty company said seal issues were not covered and they couldn't do anything for it. So we were left either reassembling the car (another 4h of labour) to get back to square one (a leaky engine) and a massive bill for nothing or fix it once and for all at our own cost hoping you would own up. Obviously there was no choice at all the only sensible thing to do was to repair the car while it was dismantled. A £1000 garage bill later plus £500+ worth of taxi and bus fares to commute while the car was being repaired (10 days) I contacted you and surprise surprise there was nobody replying my text; I have tried calling you multiple times, you only picked up the first time telling me you were going to hospital if I could call back, which I did, and every time then that you saw my number you didn't pickup anymore; when I called a few times with hidden caller ID you picked up but hung up directly as soon as you heard my voice, clearly avoiding all communications. It took me threatening you to go to court to have a reply from you willing to refund £350! By then (6 months after purchasing the car) we were so fed up and exhausted by the situation and potentially facing a long court process we agreed to settle for £500 refund from you, barely a third of what this had cost us, half of the garage bill anyway! I have proof of all of this, all the messages left unanswered over months, phone call recordings of you hanging up on me, letters from the garage and autogroup etc.
And then the car has had issues over issues leaving us stranded on the side of the road multiple times waiting hours for recovery and yet more costs for repairs, one of those for example was because of the oil filter supposedly replaced during the MOT you had conducted at the point of sale; our garage confirmed it was impossible given the state of it that it had been replaced when you said it was, so yet more lies!
So own up, you are the dishonest one, and I am clearly not the only one leaving similar review about your business!

Hi Luc,

Thank you for your review as we do appreciate feedback but only honest feedback and this can be proven that you has missed out a fair amount of information.

You have stated that the warranty does not cover everything which is true as stated in your documents they have there criteria and certain procedures to follow to protect there business from paying false claims.

We both know you did not follow the correct procedure in regards to your claim which lead to the AUTOGROUP declining this.

BUT you missed out the key fact that happened after the warranty company said the vehicle was not covered?

WE PAID FOR THE REPAIRS TO BE DONE OUT OF GOOD WILL AFTER 6 MONTHS OWNERSHIP!!!

We also have proof of service recipes and parts confirming with the bank statements that can all be proven at any point.

You collected the vehicle nearly 1 year ago from us now and you have now decided to leave negative feedback once we both agreed that Selective Motors Direct will pay for the repair at your chosen garage to get the case closed and you back on the road. Just to add at the point of the fault we had no obligation to help or get involved BUT WE STILL DID!

Once again Thank you for your feedback but please in future be more honest when leaving a company a review.

Kind Regards,

Selective

They fail to reply to your questions on autotrader so You ring up and they say “we’re not sure that cars still available I’ll speak to boss and call you back” they don’t bother……..customer service is shocking before you’ve brought a car so I can imagine exactly what it’s like when you’ve handed over money……..very poor
