Scuba RY Divers - Relaxed and Professional
I first came across Scuba RY Divers when I saw information about one of their local snorkelling tours on the Helston community Facebook page. After exchanging a few emails with Ryan, I was booked onto the excursion. As I had all my own equipment — wetsuit, mask, snorkel and fins — Ryan was more than happy for me to meet the group directly at the snorkelling site in Falmouth.
On the day, I met Ryan and Harry as arranged and was introduced to my fellow snorkellers. From the outset, the whole experience was relaxed and friendly, but also very professional. Ryan and Harry took the time to make sure everyone had the correct equipment, that it fitted properly and, importantly in Cornish waters, that everyone would be warm enough!
Before setting off, Ryan gave us a detailed outline of the planned tour together with a thorough safety brief. This included explaining the route down to the water and warning everyone about the slippery rocks and seaweed. On the way down, Harry also told us about one of the more unusual things we might encounter during the snorkel — the remains of a First World War U-boat that was broken up on the seabed more than a century ago.
Once in the water, both Ryan and Harry remained attentive, checking that everyone was comfortable and that masks, snorkels and other equipment were fitted and being used correctly.
The snorkel itself was excellent. We stopped at various points along the route while Ryan explained some of the marine life and features we were seeing. It never felt rushed, and the time seemed to disappear remarkably quickly — before we knew it, we were heading back to shore.
Even then, the attention to the group continued. Ryan made sure everyone was okay getting out of the water and again reminded us to take care on the slippery rocks on the way back up.
Once we'd changed, we all met at the little café on Castle Beach. Sitting in the sunshine, we talked through what we'd seen and experienced, with Ryan and Harry on hand to answer questions and chat with the group. It was a really nice way to round off the excursion.
All in all, a great day: friendly, informative and very relaxed, while maintaining a reassuring level of professionalism and attention to safety throughout.
By the end, I think we were all in agreement — we'll be back for more.
Highly recommended.
