Got a suicidal urge today so I called…

Got a suicidal urge today so I called Samaritans in the hopes of feeling better - they never picked up. I and many others call because we are in DIRE NEED of support, and to be met with nothing but the endless ringing of the phone makes you feel even more hopeless. Some life-saving charity, I think I'll just end it next time I get the urge!

Charity shop not helpline

We make regular financial donations to this charity which we believe supports local community and the work this charity does , we also support their shops , yet on numerous occassions we started to notice that financial donations we were making were being taken twice or we were being charged double or three times a single payment made to this chatity when we donated via card transactions, which we did often, upon noticing this we brought this to the attention of the volunteers as we thought there maybe a fault with the operating system they were using , these volunteers acknowledged the
double payments but did not offer us the over payments return, we would of been happy to dismiss the extra charges where we paid double or more as we do not begrudge the charity the money but we would of appriciated acknowledgement that these extra payments were not only taken without authorisation but also without our knowledge and were taken incorrectly or mistakingly , yet these payments were not offered to be reimburst even tho we would of gladly not accepted the offer and would of told the charity to keep the extra payments as a donation it would of been nice to of had the option and offer or acknowledgement that a problem was occuring instead of it being dismissed and expecting us to not persue it. For these reasons we have withdrawn our financial suppport to this charity completly and feel our support was not appriciated while they had it, we also discovered that we were not the only ones expierencing this same issue and that in the area that this occured the charity was "closing down" as well as their charity shops in the general area and they were attempting to rake in as much finances as possible before hand as the volunteers had been pressurised from further up the chain to acheive this by any means possible. Unfortunatly for this charity the loss they encounteted by us withdrawing our support was far greater than what they would of otherwise had from us if they had only not been so greedy to retain what they aquired incorrectly and just acknowledged what was occuring which we were able to easily prove, they harmed no one else but themselves and their own charity and have no one else to blame but themselves for closing down in the circumstances they were in.

This should not be called emotional…

This should not be called emotional support it shud be called the venting line if you want to vent about your problems then ring this they ll listen and at the end of the call you still have the same problem so this line is pointless there’s no point in keeping this line running I wudnt even give them 1 star if I didn’t have to!!!!!!

Thoughtless 😢

Unacceptable behaviour / seeming lack of appreciation of Volunteers' Work / their Time devoted to Callers; firstly on a Local level whom appear to be backed up by generously paid Staff at National Level.
Unsurprising there is a shortage of Volunteers .
-----------------------------
On a different note but also disturbing :
How can it be justifiable to 'raise ' hundreds & hundreds of thousands of pounds to refurbish building for Volunteers to respond to Callers ?
Such Building is not necessary .
When Branches are to be CLOSED DOWN, what one wonders will happen to above building/s ?

They answer in a friendly manner

They answer in a friendly manner. You start talking. Then they suddenly decide to end the conversation. Saying you seem ok now . That is a complete lack of understanding of someone that is in a state confussion . Trying to save themselves. . And you feel totally dismissed. I Dont blame the person on the other end . Just the training must be terrible. And very misinformed

Cuts to service due to Head office building costs and Management salary's.

Sell your head office and sack the paid useless management or they should also work voluntary like the volunteers. I suspect the volunteers have more knowledge and skills than those in management making awful decisions in nose diving this charity into the ground.
The management have a distinct lack of understanding of what there service is and how it's adapted to current demands. RIP Samaritans.

Made me feel worse

Samaritans UK. The person I spoke to sounded bored and disinterested. I have called the line a handful of times over the last few lonely years and had the same experience each time. I can understand why the suicide rate is so high.

ZERO STARS~

ZERO STARS~! THIS IS A GIANT SCAM. THEY HAPPILY ACCEPT TONS OF CASH DONATIONS ALL DAY, BUT THE CASH IS NOT USED FOR PROFESSIONALS OR ACTUAL HELP, THEY JUST LET A BUNCH OF VOLUNTEERS LOOSE THAT DO NOT KNOW ANYTHING AT ALL, NOT EVEN HOW TO LISTEN. A FRIEND OF MINE CALLED AND THE GUY SAID HE WAS TIRED AND HUNG UP AFTER MY FRIEND CALLED CRYING TRYING TO VENT HER STORY TO HIM. WE CALLED AGAIN BUT NO ANSWER. STOP GIVING THIS PLACE MONEY, IT IS THE PITS!

999 and samartans button on itchen bridge not working for suiciders…

Absolute disgrace the Samaritan help button on Itchen Bridge in Southampton does NOT work and they do not respond. It is very unfair to have this button for people like myself and advertise it next to the button and at other points only to find in your hour of absolute despair that they do not respond and I tried the button 6 times today myself. THIS BUTTON NEEDS TO BE REMOVED. Even the 999 button got no response from Southampton Police. How utterly disgusting. It shows how little suicidal people are thought of by Hampshire Police and the Samaritans so please don't go up there if you are at risk because you may be ignored like I was. The police drove straight past me after I had pressed the 999 button. I'm totally despairing at the lack of interest by the police in particular. They are supposed to be law abiding about vulnerable adults but they would rather nick someone for a silly offence on social media. What are we paying them for exactly ? Hampshire police you are a disgrace failing the communities you are paid to protect. I'm extremely upset but not surprised. Bet they would stop for one of their colleagues.

Absolutely bloody brilliant

Absolutely bloody brilliant, I just spoke to a lady who reassured me of everything I was worried about. Spoke to me through family problems and was just absolutely lovely. These reviews who say not good things about them are talking poop, everyone here is here to help and genuinely wants to, I can absolutely tell that everyone here cares. Thank you to the lady from this morning(:

First time using this service and felt…

First time using this service and felt very awkward doing so but thought I’d try at a time I felt defeated, sad/angry. First Lady seemed quite off-ish, low tone with a bit of a “can’t be bothered” feel, but I took no notice as I didn’t know what to expect. I had to actually go quiet at one point to see if, although she is there to listen, whether she would give me anything back, she did a little bit but I respected she couldn’t give advice or much of a personal opinion. There was then a delay which messed with the quality of the call so it ended after about 10 mins or so. I called back and got put through to another woman, she was a little more responsive and empathetic, she sounded older so maybe it came with her experience of life or the job, but after 25 mins she cut me short and said “well I’ll leave the call there and you call back in the future” which took me back a little as I didn’t realise it was time limited. It made me feel embarrassed as if I had used her time up or was talking too much so I don’t think I will use this service any more, it’s a shame but I’d rather feel uplifted at the end of a call. Samaritans need to tread carefully here, with people with mental health conditions I believe she could have stated it better if she did have to help others like “well you’ve done a great job explaining this much to me is there any resources you would think could be helpful to you that maybe I could signpost you to or tell you of? (ie mental health charities etc) that would have been more professional. I get they are not therapy or professional nhs workers but a scripted plan towards wanting to end the call would suffice way better than just cutting me short. Take note Samaritans
