After more than a year of using Rent…
After more than a year of using Rent Smart, We can confidently say that the platform is unreliable, unsafe, and full with issues. What started as a service we hoped would help us rent our valuable items safely has turned into an endless series of frustrations, lost items, app glitches, and broken promises. We are writing this review not out of anger, but out of concern for others who may be considering using Rent Smart. Trust me—this platform is not worth the trouble.
We chose Rent Smart because of their "RentSmart Protect" program, which claims to cover up to RM10,000 for lost or damaged items. However, this promise turned out to be just a marketing trick. We had a PS5 with games ( worth RM3600++) stolen and a JBL Boombox 2 worth RM2,000 ++ motherboard damaged by another person, making it completely useless. Rent Smart was slow to respond and provided no help. After nearly a year of endless communication and repeated requests for documents to send to their insurance company, they didn’t compensate us a single cent.
One of the most frustrating parts of using Rent Smart is their app, which constantly glitches. There were times when the app would crash or malfunction, wasting hours of our time trying to fix it. This is particularly frustrating when you're trying to manage high-value rentals. They claim to offer 24-hour customer support, but this is simply not true. On multiple occasions, we waited several days for a response, and only after spamming their chat did we finally hear back. The lack of timely support is unacceptable for a platform that deals with valuable items and customer trust.
What’s worse is the broken promises we received from their management. The supervisor once promised to lend us a PS5 to cover our loss, but after keeping us waiting, they eventually just apologised and gave a excuse about financial limitations. This showed us that Rent Smart makes empty promises without any intention of following through or taking responsibility for their failures.
Rent Smart’s staff are clearly undertrained, and it’s evident they don’t handle serious issues with the care or competence needed. Imagine our shock when one of their staff members admitted, “This is my first time handling a theft issue.” How can a company that deals with expensive rentals not properly train their staff to handle theft or damage claims?
Over the past year, we’ve lost not just money and valuable items, but also countless hours dealing with Rent Smart’s failures.
