RatRace Trans Africa: An Unforgettable Experience!

Participating in RatRace Trans Africa was nothing short of an adventurous journey that exceeded all expectations. From the moment we set the wheels in motion to the final day on the road, every single kilometer was filled with excitement, camaraderie, and incredible experiences.

@Abby deserves special thanks for making this trip possible. Her exceptional organizational skills, passion, and attention to detail ensured that we could focus on enjoying the journey without any worries. No matter what challenges we encountered along the way, @Abby always had a solution ready, making all the difference.

The rest of the Rat Race crew also deserves high praise for their always positive and good-humored attitude. Their enthusiasm and energy were contagious, making it impossible not to be swept up in the excitement. They made even the most demanding stretches feel like a breeze and were always ready with an encouraging smile or a helping hand.

The experience was absolutely fantastic – even the nights we camped! The improvised campsites became cozy gathering spots where we shared stories, laughed, and enjoyed the beauty of nature. There was a special magic in falling asleep under the African starry sky, with the sounds of nature as our background music.

Rat Race - The Wall 2024 was an absolutely wonderful experience!
The course was marked extremely well and the pit stops were just amazing, I could've easily stayed in them for ages!

The whole organisation from the sign up, kit check and start to finish line was faultless!

The rat race team were fantastic and the event was perfect in its organisation, support and delivery - loved every moment of it - from start to finish.

Twice completed now and both times have been amazing. A truly well organised event with an amazing team and volunteers along the route and outstanding pit stops that keep you going. Well done rat race!!

Exceptional organisation of the event. Everyone and especially the volunteers were simply brilliant! Encouragement, support, humour and genuine care for participants. Pit stops are legendary for a reason and it is hard not to hang around these and soak up the atmosphere.

What a journey following parts of a wall that was started to built in year 122. Hadrian has a lot to answer for and so do The Rat race who decided to create an event to follow along the route of his wall. The experience was amazing, a big shout out to all the Marshalls, pit stop and Check point volunteers, photographers you are all amazing, this includes the cook at the end, those were the best cheesy chips I've ever had.

The Atmosphere and most importantly the help of the volunteers race team and fellow participants.this was my first time doing the wall and if it wasn’t for the above giving you words of inspiration and telling how great you are when you have that just about hit that wall of not wanting to go on. Then receiving a round of applause and a cheer getting across that line. Receiving the medal and get one big huge massive hug from Jayne Braid who stayed along with her husband Graeme to watch me over the line after volunteering throughout the two days was fantastic .
I’ve tested myself now to the limit and it hasn’t sunk in yet feet sore and blistering and hips gone only if I sit down and get up 😂 But from start to finish it was amazing fantastic brilliant.
Thank you to everyone for their hard work going into this all the volunteers that stood in the rain in the middle of the wall still cheering you on. Next year I will watch and be a Marshall myself Thank You Rat Race for taking me out of my comfort zone and helping me achieve this. It might sink in a bit better after the pain has gone. Big shout out to Keith the DJ as well

I ran the Wall 70-mile ultra and I can confidently give it a 5-star rating. The organization was impeccable, and the course was both challenging and beautiful. The people involved, from the participants to the support marshals, were amazing. Every pit stop was so well organized that it made the experience much more manageable.

This was the hardest thing I've ever done, but it was also one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. As I crossed the finish line, the first words out of my mouth were, "Don't let me sign up for anything like that again!" Yet, here I am, already looking for the next Rat Race event to sign up for. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a challenging and well-supported ultra marathon!

Had a brilliant day out unfortunately I had to stop at hexham but what an experience . The organisation of it all was faultless i would recommend it to anyone who is looking for an adventure

EPIC, full day was amazing, super well organised and the volunteers/public support rocked!

Rat Race are fantastic at organising events, and at Easter Island, they truly showcased their epic skills. This adventure is perfect if you want to mix culture, magical discoveries, stunning nature, and fun running. There were surprises at every turn, and I loved them all, from cave explorations to snacking on wild fruit.
James, the race organiser, found the most amazing local guides who gave us a unique look at the island and its secrets.
As always with Rat Race, we could do as much or as little as we felt confortable with. I'm a city runner, and I happily completed all the runs, fueled by wild mangos and guavas. Speaking of fuel, I’m vegan and gluten intolerant, which is tricky in such a remote location, but Rat Race made it work.
In short, I’d do this again in a heartbeat. Can’t wait for my next Rat Race Adventure!

I had the absolute best time on the recent Easter Island 'test pilot' trip — I haven't finished processing it!

Part of a small, likeminded team of runners supervised by James and Jim from Rat Race (and accompanied behind the camera by the uber-talented James Appleton), we were able to explore pretty much all of one of the most remote inhabited islands in the world. Truly a bucket-list experience.

With a packed itinerary of hiking and running (largely accompanied by two extraordinary local guides) plus ample free time to explore Hanga Roa, the main town, this was a well-organised and perfectly executed trip.

On a personal level, this was my first ever ultra and I was considerably less experienced at long distance and even trail running than everyone else in the group. Even though I chose not to join one of the runs so to be as fresh as possible for the ultra day, arrangements were made so I could still join in on the sightseeing parts of that day and not miss out, which was incredibly considerate.

I am also immensely grateful to Jim for sticking by me during the ultra and allowing me the opportunity to learn so much from his experience, from running in the dark with a headtorch, to proper fuelling and hydration, to how best to use an aid station, to how to use poles, to blister care. He possesses an absolute wealth of knowledge but more importantly is happy to share it.

Thank you Rat Race — you have truly lived up to your ethos: "it's about getting to the start line, not how fast you get to the finishline".

I was lucky enough to get onto the ‘Test Pilot’ event taking place on Rapa Nui (Easter Island) in May 24. We were a small team of runners (all of whom were absolutely lovely) and under the watchful eye of James and Jim from Rat Race plus the super talented James A behind the camera, took in the most beautiful parts of the island on foot. The itinerary was well thought out meaning we got a well balanced mix of local culture and history, combined with enough running to ensure I slept for 90% of a 14hr flight home. Rat Race is a company with morals and ethics at the forefront of what they do. They have a shed load of experience and expertise, but they are also incredibly mindful of the environments they operate in and seemingly create great relationships wherever they go. Currently scanning Rat Race for next adventure(s)….. Thanks all :)

You MUST do the Easter Isle (Rapa Nui) adventure as soon as it is available. Picture this, you travel to the most remote, inhabited island in the world. It’s so small that its land mass is 1% the size of the Hawaiian islands. But that also means, you can cover almost the entire island through trekking and running tours, ducking into caves, eating fruit right off the trees, and seeing all the major Moai sculpture sites and many not often seen. Then on top of it you get two half marathons and an ultra marathon to test your grit. My favorite moment? Hard to say but maybe running and diving into the ocean after a 16 mile trek. You want adventure steeped in mystery and magic. Go Rat Race

Running a pilot race in Easter Island. Amazing experience, very well managed, completely professional outfit. Looking forward to my next adventure with them!

Just taken part in the Croatia multisport event and there are no words to explain how great this trip is. Completely achievable by anyone with a decent level of fitness. The huge ultramarathon was walked by most and the rest cycle, kayak hard but not undoable. The views were exceptional, hotel fab and great pit stops to keep us fueled. The best bit was the crew and the other participants, made some friends for life. I would 100% recommend this event.

Yet to manage to run the race we have signed up for. But due to my partner having injured herself at work and unable to do it, simply changing the name is a mission. Their customer service don’t respond to emails, then when you’ve chased multiple times they send you the incorrect link to change it, when this is questioned they insist it’s the correct one so you assume they must be correct. Pay and low and beyond they have got it wrong and it’s actually transferring us and providing a voucher, now we yet again have to chase them having paid the fee. Absolutely dreadful customer service!!!!!
