An awful company to have to deal with

An awful company to have to deal with. We have had faulty sliding doors in our new home since the day we moved in. The doors do not close properly and the lock jams. The patio doors are our main access point to the house as our car port is at the rear of the property. They would send an engineer round to adjust the doors, this would ‘fix’ the problem for a short while and then we were back to square one.
They have been patronising, disrespectful and tried putting the blame on us, saying we are not opening and closing them correctly!
I would avoid using this company at all costs!

Excellent service

I thought I'd share my recent, very positive, experience with Portico GB, who installed the doors and windows on our Bovis property.

I'd been looking for a couple of very small replacement parts for weeks. They are the sorts of parts that are not readily available to consumers, and are generally supplied to trade in only large quantities.

After extensive Googleing I had the idea to give Portico a shout, to see if they happened to have any of these small parts. Gavin (who, according to the email signature, is one of the Managing Directors) replied promptly, and subsequently Mark (Ops Manager) was able to source the parts and was kind enough to post them to me.

I was so pleased; I'd spent an inordinate amount of time searching online, and had alonst given up!

Having read some of the reviews, I do recall that—upon moving into our new build a few years ago—quite a few of our windows were quite severely scratched (one of the panes in the bifold doors looked as though it had been attacked by Wolverine!).

However, this was more likely the fault of the developer, in failing to coordinate the various subcontractors properly. Fortunately Portico were able to replace all of the affected panes pretty quickly.

I was satisfied with the post-moving-in snagging service four years ago, and am super-happy with the recent service from Gavin and Mark.

Appalling service from Portico who have…

Appalling service from Portico who have a very poor reputation locally on this new development in Colchester. Still waiting after 6 weeks to have a door repairs that hadn't been attached properly on a new build. The developer has been chasing them, they have cancelled appointments and also not shown up when arranged. They even had the cheek to say that I had cancelled an appointment after waiting in all day for them saying that the house was too far away! So they can't be trusted to turn up, keep appointments or tell the truth when confronted about their poor service. This reflects badly on the developer as it means otherwise satisfied customers are let down by this 3rd party.

Awful aftercare and Customer Service

Portico were the window company Cala Homes used to fit windows into our house.
Initially we had to have 6 windows replaced after moving in, as we found hairlines scratches on them to which they blamed other services causing this issue. Several other properties on the Saddler Lea Estate, Newmarket, also experienced this problem.
Now, 3 years later, we have had an issue with a window which would not lock correctly, therefore letting in air. After reporting this to Portico, they said that as this was 'adjustments' this was not covered by their warranty and would charge a fee of £250 to come and and fix it.
After doing some further research, 'adjustments' are a minor problem which do not require replacing any parts of the window. I would have been happy to pay a call out fee for the service but £250 is extortionate!

As they would not come out to assess the window properly in the first place, I hired an independent contractor who identified that the problem was the locking mechanism and not adjustments. I then went back to Portico who said that this is also not covered under the warranty as 'hardware' is only covered for 2 years which incidentally is the same length of time as the housing developers, therefore making the value of this warranty null and void.

They have done nothing to promote a good customer care department, yet have a fantastic 'Customer Defence' department.

It's worrying that large corporate developers like Cala Homes, do not look into the aftercare of the contractors that they are working with. In this instance Portico is a very disheartening and disappointing company.

Poorly installed, customer care and communication

We bought a new build and were given the keys end of December 2022. The next day we noticed that the foulding doors didn't open, two windows had a crack, rubbers in doorframe missing, door handle badly damaged and rattling in the frame, aluminium frame damaged by a heavy sharp object, leaving a deep cab of a inch long, broken an jammed vents and the door was dropped leaving a gab to open air.

After 2 months finally a mechanic came round at 4:45 with the argument that the foreman had a door handle spare from another door, to fix the problem.
Having notice the scale of the problem and spoken to the foreman, which was also at the side at this time, the mechanic excused himself and was told he was sent in the blind.

Witness the foreman straight on the phone to the company, telling them about the several emails and phone calls about the work they had to carry out, the other end just went in denial.

Today finally received a phone call from the company's customer care asking what the problem was with our foulding doors and if we could send pictures of it.
We can't have excess to our garden/garage and hold us up from doing Jobs in and around the house.

Poor quality product, lets air in.

Portico are a supplier used by Bellway in their new builds to provide doors and windows.

My balcony doors came with dust coating the glass on the inside of the double glazing, scratches and chips.

The plastic around the windows is so cheap and flimsy. The doors are not good quality all and wind blows directly in through the windows.

Peices of the external vent were missing on install. I was told these would be posted to me a couple of months ago but yet again they have not been provided. So I have wind coming in the top vent and through gaps in the door frame large enough to see through. I have used tea towels to block the wind for nearly three years now.

When I email customer services they are rude and say I must go through Bellway, another very useless company.
