its a pole with rings!! we ordered the longer pole as we wanted more rings which you cant buy separately. But the extra rings would have cost more anyway so win win. If you cut one down just remember to cut the outer ends of the pole so you keep the predrilled holes where the little double ended screw fits that joins the 2 sections together. For the money its a solid curtain pole no frills nothing to go wrong bulletproof pole.
