Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Evaluating 31 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many customers expressed dissatisfaction with the product quality, citing issues such as windows being difficult to close, drafts, and manufacturing defects like loose molding or grilles falling sideways. Reviewers also reported problems with defective doors, windows that no longer close properly, and mold growing between panels. The service was frequently criticized for poor communication, delays, missed appointments, and a lack of follow-through, often leading to frustration and unresolved issues. The pricing for repairs and replacements was considered exorbitant by some, with high costs for parts and installation. However, some people also felt that the exterior doors were excellent and the installation was fantastic, with a few appreciating the clear view and easy cleaning of retractable screens. A few other people also felt that the sales person was good and that the windows seemed to be of good quality.

Pella experience in Philadelphia

What homeowners don’t think too much about is the importance of window installation. The 15 Pella windows we bought for the back of our Philadelphia townhouse 7 years ago were middle of the road. But the installation made an average product worse. The day of installation, the site manager decided he could not deal with street parking and ghosted us. 3 windows weren’t installed correctly, so they wouldn’t open; the caulk they used was so old so it *never* dried (and we learned they won’t fix this); and one window wasn’t even shimmed properly so we get a draft (again, we learned they won’t fix this). We purchased 6 Anderson windows for the front of the townhouse 10 years ago—the installation was 100% better; they showed up, installed everything correctly; and the windows have held up great.

I really thought I was buying the best…

I really thought I was buying the best of the best windows??? I was wrong. The latches they put on their windows do not grab and pull the window tight. I have requested new latches, and they said they have none.
I would not recommend them at all.

Do not contract work for them

I was hired as a subcontractor for Pella. Purchased a hand brake. Was promised plenty of work and a great partnership. Pella dodged my calls for weeks. I was then given 2 installs, which I received 4.5 and 5 star reviews on.
Pella claimed they had no more work for 2 weeks, until I finally received a TEXT not even a call, saying they were cutting ties due to not having sufficient workload or the resources.

Pella windows are over rated and expensive

When our builder put Pella Windows in our new home in 2020 we thought we were getting great windows. We found out that after the first winter they were not. The first winter one window fully cracked and had to be replaced. Then there were problems getting many of the windows to lock to keep the cold or hot air out. As of 12/2025 they are in fact coming again for the 4th time to see if they can adjust 3 windows to lock. If not , we will have to replace them as we found out too they were nothing but builder grade and will have to pay them hundreds of dollars to reinstall the inferior windows they installed initially. They only give a 2 year warranty. What does that tell you? We already replaced 3 windows with another brand which gives a lifetime warranty. Had them in our other house and never had issues with the warranty. I would never buy Pella windows again.

6 month wait for a replacement

I purchased a pella sliding patio door from Lowes in July 2025. A month later the molding on the glass came loose. I called pella and they sent a field professional out for assessment and a replacement door was ordered. I had to call for an installation appointment in November because I never heard back from them after the visit. The installation was scheduled 11/21/25 apparently the "factory sent the wrong door." Now im being told the next installation date is January 2026! Six months after reporting the defective door.

WTF? OUCH!

Yikes!
Purchased 7 windows, one being a kitchen awning window.
Minimum $1,000 per window.
Impractical design because there is no bottom ledge to open the window from the closed position.

One of our Pella windows almost needs a two-man crew to close it!

Drafts are coming in from single pane windows.

And, just today, I went to lightly sweep some dust away from the ledge of the awning window, only to get my fingertip cut because the slot where the knob slides back and forth, was not beveled. So metal cut. NOT COOL!
All windows were purchased in 2022.

There are DEFINITELY great window manufacturers.
Pella isn't one of them.

Some of the worst customer care that I…

Some of the worst customer care that I have dealt with.

We installed a 19K slider in 2024. The door was damaged by a contractor who was building a new patio at our home. The contractor’s insurance company paid for a $14K replacement door and glass panels from Pella.

A Pella contractor installed the new door and adjoining glass panels. The Pella contractor installed the insulated glass panels, but did not clean the glass of fingerprints. I messaged back and forth with several national Pella customer care team members and they told me I would have to remove the glass panels and clean the glass myself.

We had the same issue with the original door install in 2024 and the Olathe, Kansas Pella dealer sent out a crew member to remove the glass, clean and reinstall the panels.

I called the dealer again and they agreed to come by and resolve the issue.

Always deal with the local dealer. The national CSR team will only create angst and heartburn.

Check everything before the install team leaves

I had a patio slider installed a few months ago. A few days later I noticed that some of the wood wasn't properly stained. Called them and someone came out to see for themselves. They were supposed to come today to replace the parts but were a no show. When I called them, they said they couldn't locate the parts and the technician who was supposed to come today was out at a job that would take all day. I rearranged my morning for them and now we have to reschedule. Doubt I'll use them in the future.

Love the windows, not fans of the screens

Pella has actually treated us well and has been responsive to fixing installation issues and replacing glass panels. They have twice improperly installed some of the retracting screens.

We have a couple of big issues with screens. I'd only recommend the French slider with the interior screens if you live in an area with few bugs. Otherwise, your house will fill with bugs if the slider is open because the bugs collect on the screens. When you open the screens to close the sliders, the bugs rush in off of the screens.

We also have the retractable screens that are hidden when the window is closed. We love the clear view out and they clean more easily. However, I have noticed that bugs on the outside of the pane of glass get past the window brush when I open the window and are brought into the house. Our bedroom and bathroom fill up with gnats if the window is open because there is no screen to keep them off of the glass and the brushes on the side of the window with no screen don't sweep them off while opening the window or keep them from getting past it while the window is open. As a result, we can't have our windows open at night during warm months.

For a simple lock on an old door

For a simple lock on an old door, been waiting for almost 2 months for repair. Weeks to get estimate, weeks to get someone to virtually measure, weeks to get an appointment, weeks to get someone to my house. Not sure how they justify this.

Poor Communication, Process and Follow Through

Reading the reviews on "Trust Pilot" PRIOR TO making my purchase of Pella Windows and Doors would have been helpful.
I received quotes from three companies and it came down to Pella and Andersons. They were comparable in price and even though Andersons seemed to have the BETTER material, their sales associate seemed more like a used car salesman and drove me away to Pella. I did like my Pella Sales person.
We wanted new windows and doors before a big party we were planning. I was told that it should not be a problem but the scheduler would go over all of that with me (after they had my check).
However, from the beginning, Communication, Process and Follow Through are well below satisfactory.
The initial visit was about 90 minutes where measurements and options were discussed. When we were able to negotiate pricing, I was asked for payment. So like an idiot who was born last night, I paid in full. With the understanding that my check would not be cashed until installation was scheduled and windows were ordered.
A few days later, my bank called to inform me of a large check attempting to clear.
I phoned Pella to ask why my check was cashed before they said it would be and they just apologized, offered to send me a gift card for dinner, blah-blah-blah.
My job was scheduled to start the Monday AFTER our party. Again there were apologies. I was told they had to order the materials. Apparently the THREE MONTH PLUS lead time was not enough. OH, but they had already paid themselves for my job BEFORE they had even ordered the material.
Pella has completed 70% of the job but had to stop because one of the windows was cracked and they failed to order the correct size window sills. They also need to get a different person out to install screens because the crew did not know how to install them.
It will take another 6 weeks to get the material and they they will contact me to schedule round TWO of their install.
When all is said and done it will have been about 6 months to complete my job.
OH...the windows and doors? I'm happy with the moldings and the installation. I'm not crazy about the windows themselves. Design is lacking and i'm still wondering how I can wash the outside of the windows from inside the house.
I will follow up after they actually COMPLETE my job.
OH...did they make any concessions with me on this poor performance? YES!!! A restaurant gift card for $100 WOOHOO!!!

My Pella Experience

Last year I ordered a new Pella door and was very pleased. It was installed by a Lowe’s installer. Thinking the company did quality work I ordered 2 windows. I wasn’t told there was more than one material and thought I was getting and thought I was ordering fiberglass. When they came out to install I was told I was getting vinyl. I was very disappointed and had to get the guys back out to finish the edges they didn’t cover. I gave them another chance about 8 weeks ago and ordered a window to replace a garden window in my kitchen. I wanted another garden window but was told they no longer make those. I was not told they make bay windows which I would have been happy with. I do believe they sent out the wrong window. I should have gotten a custom size instead of the standard size I got. My understanding was the window would be flat but cover the opening. They had to do a 2 inch frame on all sides inside of the opening to build it up since they didn’t do a custom window so it would fit which took up part of my light and view. On the outside the expanders did not cover the cutout in the brick so they were coming out to put more boards on top of the boards to try to cover it up. I stopped them from rigging it anymore. My salesperson said the work was sloppy, took pictures and sent to her supervisor who called me thinking I sent the pictures. I don’t know who he was and he never came out to check.
Pella needs to do better about telling their customers all their options and choices.

Customer service is unreachable!

I use a single star because I can’t give zero stars. I’ve been trying all day to contact a human. I’ve tried waiting on hold, waiting for a callback (no one replied) and texting two different ways. In the latter instance I stated my issue and no one replied. Their customer service really sucks!

I hope you never have to replace a part…

I hope you never have to replace a part for a Pella Window. Customer service is beyond bad. They promised to send a quote for a simple part over a month ago. I have had no response back from anyone even though 3 people said they would escalated this to a manager. Meanwhile I cannot open my window. I have emailed, texted, and hung on the phone for over an hour. Beyond frustrated with the non response.

I like the look of my casement window…

I like the look of my casement window unit. However, I am unhappy with the fact that one set of blinds came defective. I called Pella to report the problem but told them I'd keep an eye on it and let them know what id like them to do at a later date. It was drooping at the top unlike those of the other windows. I got busy with work etc. and time went by. Then one day to my dismay I noticed the problem had gotten a lot worse. There was a broken thread. I called Pella and was in disbelief when they hardly had any details of my order. They did not even have the window specs recorded. Finally they told me the blinds were out of warranty and that I would need to pay over $1000.00 just for a new set of blinds for that one window of that unit. They would need to send someone out to remeasure the window otherwise, any mistakes would be on me. It is just a blind you pop in and out. I said hey I am not purchasing a whole new window all I need is a replacement blind and they were like yeah that will be the cost. So think carefully and check your installations because Pella will let you pay dearly at a later date. Oh and to top it all their quote is only valid for a certain number of days.

Stay away from Pella windows and doors

Had a crack in a upper Sash of a double hung window. So I went on their online store, and ordered a replacement. The next day, I checked to see if it would fit my older series window, and it would not. They said no problem, they would cancel, and get me the right one. They needed information like sizes, etched serial number on glass, etc. I also ordered a seal for one of my doors. I said will that seal be sent or cancelled, they said order it again, because the whole ordered was cancelled. A few weeks later, 2 seals show up, then the Sash. I compared the Sash to the old one, and totally different. I called up, and that is when the problems began. They said I ordered 2 seals and could not be returned, and the Sash was rapidly produced, so I could not return that. What? one day, and you said it was cancelled? Then the one they sent was not complete, it was missing provisions for the cam locks. So I said, since I have to eat this Sash, I want it right, so I can sell it. So I tried to send back, so it could be completed, and they said it was right, and they would do nothing. I have never had such a problem with a large company before. So much money spent on windows and doors, and zero support afterwards. I would definitely go to a another manufacturer.

Save your money

Save your money. Spent over $50k on replacements. So far 2 years install was good but they DO NOT HELP WITH REDUCING HEAT from the sun. That is the reason we replaced our window. It is now 60F in 30143 but it is 79F in my house for the heat from the sun through the windows. I bought these so not to have to pay for AC when 60F out! Total false advertising
