Videos Not Recording Sound
Issues with videos not recording with sound. Not sure why but I am not getting any sound recorded on my videos. I have two speakers that I experimented with.
I first selected my external speaker and tried using that and got no sound. The bars were moving on the page so it appeared that sound was working however upon review later there was no sound.
I then tried again to record a second session using only the computer speakers and I still got NO sound.
There seems to be an issue with the website not recording sound properly.

Worst software of it's type ever
Worst software of it's type ever. This is just a barely extant piece of incomplete software. Processing videos can take an hour or more, if they ever work. Videos can not be edited once completed. There is an editor but no way to revert any changes made. If you make a mistake you are screwed. no way to save a copy to work from, no way to to get help. Just a hack of a piece of software. So bad to be nearly un useable. They company that make sit is useless also. Don't trust the reviews on their site, they are largely paid or AI generated.

Panopto does not offer free trials to consumers and individuals on its platform and does not take direct debits or other payments without prior consent and contractual agreements.
We only offer the option of trials to businesses. These trials do not include a direct debit agreement via credit card and do also not include auto-renewal features.

We have never claimed that we are not offering a free trial. But as outlined in our response it is clear that the Panopto free trial option on our website is a business trial that is being activated through an account executive and not through credit card details.

In addition, why 'dedicated' customer service manager..., hilarious..., as opposed to not dedicated?
Gosh, how important it is to feed one's ego..., you must all be so very 'cool' and standardly educated there at Panopto.
Let me give you an example of the height of utter stupidity..., troubleshoot and teach via the medium where the very problem exists.

Panopto saved us during COVID

I work at a grad school that's been using Panopto for over a decade and merged in with our University after they saw all the benefits to our school during the pandemic.
We mostly use it for course recordings and our students love all the different ways that Panopto makes these long videos much more accessible because of the search features, the captions, the ability to speed up playback and so much more!
For my training videos, I love the ability to add a table of contents so people can skip to directly the point that they want to watch and I can share it with that just as easily if there's a question later.
Non-Destructive edits through the software are so much easier than having to download large video files in a separate program. Viewing the stats on my training videos also lets me check which content has been the most relevant to our users, or where they have the most concerns.
Each new feature they've introduced makes it more intuitive and convenient, and I look forward to many more years of using Panopto for greater accessibility of our video content!

University experience…
I am studying at university and this year we have started using Panopto. I found that you can’t upload over normal mobile internet. I have found the app continually doesn’t work and I have tried deleting and reinstalling so many times. Also using safari is time consuming and doesn’t always work. Upload also takes forever. I find OneDrive to be much more effective for storing videos and I will not record on it as I do not trust it and have heard of others students videos not saving. I found the previous system we were using at uni much much easier and more reliable.

5 years of frustratingly bad Panopto recordings
I have studied at Aarhus University for 5 years which uses Panopto and for all 5 years at least 1/3 of the recordings were ruined by the camera focusing on the corner of the room, the sound not working, the recording cutting out or the powerpoint show going black.
It has been an extremely frustrating experience!

While we're disheartened to learn that your experience fell short of your expectations, we would like to offer some best practices on how to improve your experience with video recordings.
It seems that you are describing a hardware issue, not necessarily an issue with the recording software (Panopto). The imagery being out of focus is always caused by the camera and needs to be adjusted in the actual room setup. For sound issues, we also recommend you check your hardware setup (microphones and audio capture devices) since it seems like there is an issue with either the wiring or the settings between the devices.
The fact that Aarhus University has not been using Panopto for 5 years would confirm our suspicions that we are looking at a hardware issue here.
Since your experience matters a lot to us, we have gotten in touch with Aarhus University on the matter to investigate further. While they responded that there are no apparent issues with Panopto on their premises, we would like to invite you to get in touch so our Danish partners and we can support you with your recordings.
Once again, we appreciate your candour and hope to have the chance to serve you better in the future.

This software only works half of the time and it's really irratating that i can't watch halft of the previus lectures because the software crashed or just didnt work in the first place. On top of that it's really slow and the site is often inaccesable.

Whatever update has recently occurred…
Whatever update has recently occurred has made Panopto a wretched means of watching lectures during live webcast as well as recordings. The audio cuts in and out, rendering viewing useless. This is an issue not only for students trying to return to a lecture for review but especially for students who are sick and cannot attend lecture in person. We have resorted to zoom recording, which is also not ideal because of how our auditorium is set up, but at least allows us to hear what is being taught. I reached out to our school's IT and they said it related to Panopto. When I emailed Panopto, they redirected my complaint to our school's IT department without so much as reading or responding to my concerns. Apparently I have no means of getting this issue resolved.

Over nine years we have gone from a…
Over nine years we have gone from a couple of technically leading academics promoting its use to a large scale rollout with half the University asking staff to use it. Almost immediately students asked for it to be mandated.
The software is easy to roll out across a large campus due to its software-only focus and the need for just a microphone. Most steps can be automated and the integration with Blackboard (in our case) allows videos to be secured to classes/modules with no additional steps.
We currently have over 50,000 videos with increased use year on year. Panopto support is generally excellent, but feature rollout is easier on their cloud platform than when hosting yourself.

If you want easy to use video capture, I would recommend Panopto. It is very flexible and most people will be up and recording with only a few minutes of training. I haven't found a usb mic or camera device that Panopto doesn't support.
