They take your money

They take your money, and don't send books. Sometimes I think the world is a beautiful place full of wonder and compassion, and then I remember hellholes like Page1books exist.

They should be ashamed!

My teenage son spent $105 on a Page1 gift certificate for me as a Christmas gift. I was so touched by his thoughtfulness and generosity! He worked hard to save that much money! I set up the three-month subscription in December 2024. As I'm sure you can already guess how this story ends, Page1 gladly received the funds but has not filled the subscription. I was sent the first of three shipments in February 2025 and have been following up ever since with no results (it's now September 2025). I want my son's money back! Shame on you, Page1 Books!

Paid and nothing received

Same issue as several others (should have looked here first). Put in an order in Jan, got shipping notification in Feb, and now nothing has shown up. E-mails get generic responses about escalating the issue. Requested a refund now that it has been over 6 months and no response. Reported to FTC.

Seems like it has good reviews up until…

Seems like it has good reviews up until 2023, then it's just collapsed, but they still seem eager to take your money. I ordered a one-year subscription for $350 last December as a gift for my daughter. Got the "bundle box" that I was able to give to her to open on Christmas morning. She redeemed the subscription per the instructions in the introductory letter in the bundle box but hasn't received one book. It's probably too late for the credit card company to do anything now, but I've opened a dispute and hope to get my money back. It seems like such a betrayal. I thought I was supporting a small business that was filling a much-needed niche for book lovers, and it feels like a real slap in the face to get ripped off like this. From what I see on this site, I'm not the only one.

this company is a scam/fraud

I ordered a 6 month subscription and did not receive a single book. After months of regular complaint/inquiry emails it is clear that this company is not intending to send me any books and is a scam/fraud.

Don't use this company unless you want to lose time and money

I ordered from Page1 Books when I was gifted a gift card in December of 2023. It's September 2024 and I still haven't gotten my order. I've emailed the company multiple times and they said they were still processing the order....EIGHT months later. They told me they'd send out my order at the end of last month. Did I receive the order? Nope. I don't even know what to do at this point. I just feel bad that the person who got me the gift card lost $40.

Like most other disappointed customers

Like most others, I received a gift subscription for Christmas 2023. I received my first book with some additional gifts. I have received nothing since then. I have sent numerous emails asking about this and do receive generic emails back saying they are working to fulfill every order. Then nothing. I am so disappointed and will make sure I share this bad experience!

This is an EVIL scam company

This is an EVIL scam company. My husband purchased a book subscription for me, and I never received a SINGLE book. We contacted through all the means we had, and only received a response once that they were sorry and our complaint would be "elevated." Of course, we are in August, and I still have not received a single book. I would characterize it as gross negligence, except they just contested our credit card chargeback, telling our credit card company we were a woman in Washington DC and sending tracking receipts to a home in DC with a different name (we are in Texas). So this is simply a fraud company, failing to provide any product, and then lying to avoid getting a chargeback after 8 months of nothing. I have reported to the FTC and hope all do!

This is a scam

My wife got me a book subscription from this place as a Christmas present. I got one book and the rest never came. I kept asking their customer service and they just kept saying "Please expect to receive your books by the end of the month." Needless to say the books never came. I am complaining to the FTC. I suggest everyone else that has been scammed by Page1books do the same: reportfraud _at_ ftc _dot_ gov

Terrible book subscription service and…

Terrible book subscription service and customer service! Last December I purchased a year of their monthly book club for my adult son who loves to read. I was drawn to their claim that they carefully curate books each month based on the person's personal preferences. Not only did my son not get or hear anything from them for over 2 months after signing up, we had to continually call and email to get any books at all - when he finally got books, it was clear they didn't match them to his preferences or authors at all - and he still, 6 months into this subscription, hasn't received his June book and has had to call/write constantly only to get a runaround from them. He also hasn't received a book he loves, which is their claim. I'm deeply disappointed in the whole experience as I was so happy to not only find this type of curated service for my book-loving child but was likewise so happy to support a small, women-owned business. I honestly can't believe after all the emails and phone calls over the last 6 months just trying to get a service I fully paid for up front, we are STILL having such an awful experience. $355 down the drain...

Scam website - do not order anything!

On February 24, 2024, my wife paid $105 for a gift certificate at Page One's website. I placed an order for a book subscription (6 books over 3 months) on March 25, 2024. I followed up with PageOneBooks on April 24, May 10, May 20, May 24, May 27, and June 7. Page One Books said repeatedly that my books would ship, and they never did. I asked for a refund and got no response. Upon further investigation online, I see many, many complaints about the same pattern involving other customers.

3-month Subscription, got 1 and then ghosted…

I had previously ordered a subscription for my mother who loved the service. So when my fiance expressed interest as well, I ordered a 3-month subscription box for her birthday. It was downhill from there. Zero customer service, and it was like pulling teeth to get the first months book. Since then, we have not received months 2 or 3 and it has been 5 months since I ordered the gift. No phone call, no email, youre lucky if anyone replies to repeated inquiries within 2 weeks. Dont bother with the phone number listed when you sign up, it’s a Google voice number and no one picks up. If I can get a refund it’ll be a miracle, but avoid this company at all costs. May have been good once, but not anymore.

Extremely frustrating!!

Extremely frustrating!!! I got a 3-month subscription as a gift to my dad, prior to placing the order, I reached out to ensure they could fulfill it and they confirmed. After that I followed up constantly for 2-MONTHS with very random and generic answers about the status of my order. I called with no answer to later speak to someone while they were driving.... this is not a real company, avoid at all cost!

Scam

Just like all the other reviews posted, I ordered a couple subscriptions as gifts and they still have not been fulfilled. I have been in contact via email and the respondent is agreeable and says the books should be arriving soon, but I have been waiting 6 months. 100% DO NOT RECOMMEND this business.

Avoid at all costs

I was gifted a six-month subscription in 2021 and loved it so much I wanted to get a subscription for my mom. Like many others on here, I gave my mom a six-month subscription at the end of 2022 and she has received one book. Whoever is answering the emails doesn't feel like a real person who cares what you say and after emailing them for many months and them stringing me along I'm very confident I just paid a lot of money for a single book. I don't know what happened in 2023 that changed, but it is shameful that they are still acting like they are a legitimate business.

If I could give zero stars I would

If I could give zero stars I would. Echoing the other 1-star reviews on here, I was also ripped off by this sham retailer. I purchased a 3 month subscription for my father for Christmas in 2022; as of this writing in February 2024 only ONE book was delivered. Multiple emails have promised to make the situation right, which has proven so far to be a lie. I managed to get someone on the phone months ago who told me the owner was “going through some stuff.” The only “stuff” I could imagine enabling business behavior so poor is death itself.

Don’t support this at-best-incompetent, at-worst-fraudulent business.
