Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 130 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. People frequently complained about missed appointments, unreturned phone calls, and severe delays in receiving essential medical referrals and test results. Consumers often felt deeply frustrated and disrespected by the unprofessional behavior of the office staff and the extremely disorganized scheduling system. Though some reviewers struggled with communication issues, a small portion of people were satisfied with specific staff members. Some reviewers highlighted that certain individual nurses and doctors were actually very caring, thorough, and professional during their actual appointments. A few customers noted that these specific healthcare providers spent adequate time listening and examining them properly.

No personalized care--and they don't care

The following is my experience with Oak Street Health, which promises to be “personalized primary care” for people on Medicare. The Kalamazoo Office offered me no personalization and certainly no primary care.
My initial appointment, with Dr. Mark Brown, went well; however, I soon discovered that there was no way for me to call their office, no MyChart to send messages, no way to reach Dr. Brown. As you know, patients call a nationwide number and speak to someone who will take care of prescription refills and setting up appointments. They will not connect patients to the office. I know I was talking to a woman in Arizona on one call. I became suspicious that this would not be personalized care, but I decided to give it a shot. I saw Dr. Brown again, and all he seemed to be concerned about was changing my prescriptions.
I got a call from the system several months later and was told I needed an EKG. I scheduled the appointment, but when the date rolled around, I had the flu and rescheduled (through the national number). The day before my appointment, we had a big snowstorm, and I couldn’t get out of my street since it had not been plowed. I canceled again and set up a third appointment. It was for 3 p.m. I got a call that morning asking if I could come in earlier, but I could not. The person I talked with said to be there at 2:40, which I assumed was the “get there 15 minutes before your appointment” reminder. I got to the office at 2:44, but the person who was to give me the test had already left. Not even in the building anymore. I called to reschedule and to voice my unhappiness about a technician so quickly out the door. The woman I talked with said she would tell her supervisor and that person would call me. No one called.
On the day of my fourth attempt to get the EKG I was told I needed, I got a call canceling the appointment. “Why?” I asked. I was told that they had determined I didn’t need an EKG. I asked Dr. Brown about how they could go through three appointments without recognizing my lack of need for the test. Turns out, he never even knew one had been scheduled.
During this appointment, he stayed across the room from me the whole time, didn’t answer my question about personalized care and how that could be accomplished with this system. I told him that the trazadone he had prescribed as a sleep aid didn’t work for me. He then told me the names of three other similar drugs and asked me what I wanted to do. I replied, “I have no idea what those drugs are. You are the doctor—what is your suggestion?” He didn’t answer that question and moved on. He said he would change the dosage on the muscle relaxant he had prescribed earlier and make a couple of referrals for me. He left the office. At this point his “scribe” listened to my heart and lungs and checked my feet.
He never prescribed any of the three drugs he promised he would, and the one referral he made was to a doctor who had retired over a year ago.
On my way out the door, I was given a written summary of the visit that had 18 errors on it. It did not have all my prescriptions on it, though I brought in a list. (I only counted this as one error.) It did have listed a cream or something of that ilk for my arthritis, though we had never talked about it and it was never prescribed. The biggest shock came when I read I suffer from major depression, although that was never discussed and I have never been diagnosed with any form of depression. There were 15 other errors with which I will not bore you. I called the national number the next day to ask them to ask the Kalamazoo Office to call me to correct the numerous errors. The man I talked with (who said I was very kind not to yell at him as most people did) said the office would call within 24 hours. They never called.
All of this is true, though it does leave out a lot of frustration and little junk.
So, I ask you, is the last office visit worth $256.66? I didn’t think so either. Can you name any instance where I received personalized care?

After 2 yrs, very disappointed

I had 3 or 4 favorite PAs at Oak st health in MWC, OK. They've all moved on now. The last visit, apr 2026, I had to see PA Morgan Green, again. She was 45 min late to the rm & might have been later if I hadn't opened the door to leave. She didn't act like she wanted to be there, both visits. Info on tests were recorded, she didn't read them until getting to the rm. Apparently I've got heart blockage, recorded in early march. Never referred to a specialist. I've done what my favs did & moved on, to an MD that will refer me

I called the first time for a appointment and they we're rude and wouldn't give me any information. The second time I had asked for an appointment and they scheduled me,I had to wait a month. A few days before my appointment they emailed me and said it was canceled because of my insurance which they told me they took so I had my insurance call them and they gave him a runaround and weren't honest. Maybe some of the locations are friendly and helpful but not at the Rockford location. For anyone thinking of going there, trust me "GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!!

Excellent Care

Today I accompanied my friend who has Stage IV breast cancer to Oak Street Health for a follow up appointment.
I was highly impressed with Dr Karen Cardon and the Social Worker, whose name I unfortunately didn't quite catch.
Both were extremely professional and caring, and spent a large amount of time with my friend.

Billing Department

When I first went to Oakstreet Health I was very happy with them. They closed down with only a month notice to find a new health care provider. After their closure I received a bill for blood work that they sent to another facility to process (without my knowledge or approval) The blood lab is now charging me because Oakstreet incorrectly coded it so they can not bill Medicare or my private insurance. Oakstreet refuses to code it correctly or to return my calls. This has been going on for 3 months. I have documentation for all time I have called them & all the times they promised to get back to me within 24 hours.Their billing department needs to be investigated for exploiting senior citizens.

Provider was thorough and asked great…But Follow not good

Provider was thorough and asked great questions. My longtime PCP left his practice and joined a new one that specializes in cancer patients. I had to find a new PCP and chose Oak Street Health. I was very impressed in the thoroughness of the provider I was assigned to, she asked a lot of questions and they took several blood samples. A few days later I received a call from a gentleman at Oak Street telling me they had received the results of the blood tests and one of them showed I had a hyperactive thyroid and they had an Endocrinologist they would recommend. I asked the guy if he could mail the info to me and he agreed. A couple of days later I could see that the info hadn’t been mailed in my USPS app and called Oak Street and told them I would come in and get the info. This is where the “fun” starts. I went to the front desk and told the receptionist why I was there. She pulled up my records and told me the name of the person I had spoken with and then told me she couldn’t release the info as they were waiting for approval. I asked her “approval from whom” as my insurance doesn’t require a referral, she became evasive and told me a third-party service they work with. Long story short I walked away without the info and test results I needed. Now I am forced to find an Endocrinologist on my own and most likely will have to have the same blood tests done all over again, which adds unnecessary costs and time to the equation

To be fair

To be fair, I have never been to Oak Street, so I cannot tell you about their service, but I live in Dallas, TX and today saw one of their commercial vehicles/vans that had license plates that showed registered in Mexico???!!! Medicare is American so how does a Meicare Advantage program have vehicles registered in Mexico?

Very poor communication

I had a heat stroke, which affected my talk, I also have bone on bone right hip arthritis, I mentioned to oak street communicate via text, because of my affected speech.
They have not! I have had constant pain 24/7 with my right hip, and I need relief, also the doctor gave me valsartan 40 mg to help control my blood pressure, this has made me extremely dizzy. I have been trying since October to get help, they have not texted me back. I told them to text me because of my speech.

My prior insurance Blue Cross and Blue Shield, handled everything, and I had no out of pocket expenses, that insurance was taken away from me by government agencies.

I have been trying to get relief from the pain and dizziness since October, and they have done nothing to help me.

This is terrible, I would never go there, I just wish I never took the insurance that works with them, they are worse than a zero rating!

Incompetent staff

As a patient of Dr. Upton who was referred to me I thought was as expected...but. The staff especially in customer relations at the pine Street location Tulsa is one of the rudest people that I've ever had to deal with giving incorrect information and being terribly insensitive as well...I would never refer anyone there again.

It would take a book to explain my reason for this review.

Wish I could write my experience without it turning into a book. Because of their incompetence, Oak Street Health flatly lied to me about a form required by the Court when petitioning for guardianship. First, they said they didn't receive it by fax, although I have confirmation of transmission. I mailed it Certified, return receipt, and they said they couldn't find it. I drove 80 miles to deliver it personally. All three times, my contact information was included. Turns out they received the form all 3 times, but the treating nurse did not know what to do with it! When a business ignores a form that is captioned by the name of a Court, that is bad. That court form is because of disabled adults not having the capacity to know what they are signing. It does not require a HIPAA release. It goes before a judge and if granted temporary guardianship, that person then has authority to sign the HIPAA release on the patient's behalf to get medical records for filing with the court. But, I was talking to call center people -- not anyone at the clinic, nor their legal department. No matter what number you call, you get a call center, some which are not located in the same State where the patient lives. No matter what issue you phone about, the result is the same; "The care team will contact you within 48 hours." What about 48 YEARS! My sister is 78 yrs old, but the MSN, (not a doctor), thinks that a patient that old who has had dementia for over 8 yrs knows they are signing a HIPAA release form. Recently, financial exploiter number 1 got a HIPAA release form for complicit party number 2, had my sister sign it, so complicit party number 2 then changed the mailing address in my sister's file. In spite of having my contact information, the form was mailed to complicit party number 2 who resides 700 miles away because she is listed as having a HIPAA release. Effectively, Oak Street Health put the information of that form, and the actual form, into the hands of suspect people and obstructed my sister's ability to live her last months in peace with someone she loves and who loves her. I filed a complaint with BBB and the response was, in my opinion, just so BBB won't reduce their rating due to no response, because it was just like the responses you get from the call center, that is along the lines of saying, "we will look into this matter and get back to you". I tremble at the thought that I had to explain this. Oak Street Health's staff, upon realizing they didn't know what to do with the form, rather than lying to me, should have contacted one of CVS's attorneys, or contacted me, and I would have helped them reach court personnel to explain the reason and purpose of that form to them.

Clumsy Communication

At the Mishawaka, Indiana, clinic. I am generally satisfied with my experience. The nursing staff is terrific. I agree with other patients that communication is clumsy and can be slow. A patient portal would be greatly appreciated for quicker solutions. I am unhappy, though, that CVS is the parent company. I suspect there are conflicts of interest as a congressional hearing committee revealed,

You are an employee remember that!

The issue is not with Oak Street Health as a provider. The issue is with one of the drivers of the van. I suffer from a disability and have trouble walking sometimes. I parked near the door for a quick run in . The driver pulled up to the door as well and made a point to pull all the way to my front bumper so that I would need to back up before leaving. The manor in which he did it was to indicate that I should not have pulled up there. The thing is, he has no more right then anyone else to park there either. Regardless of both of our bad parking choices, his behavior reflects Oak Street Health. The location is 4401 W Western Ave South Bend IN 46619. I would give a description of him but I believe if this is addressed to the team, he will know exactly who he is.

Denied CONFIRMED APPOINTMENT

Had a confirmed appointment at the CastleHill medical site. When I showed up I was denied medical help because they said that I did NOT have an appointment. I then showed them the confirmation text that was sent by Oak street. Still, it was denied. The Dominican receptionist was both rude and didn’t bother to check the confirmation. So I walked out vowing never to use Oak Street again.
