All the staff are amazing here

All the staff are amazing here - this is a review shouting out the staff in the hopes they get recognition as it's by far the best health service I've recieved.

Wendy, from Reception who took us up to the room and was very chatty and friendly which helped calm my nerves.
There was a nurse/ lady on the ward which took my blood pressure etc. She explained everything very well thoroughly and I felt safe in her care. I wish I knew her name but she was blonde, caucasian, and I think may have had an accent from Eastern Europe.
There was also a nurse/ lady of the same job as above from Scotland (think her name might have been Molly?) she was lovely and friendly too.
The lady who came to get me from my room, took me down in the lift, and positioned me on the bed whilst the anaesthetist did their thing. Again, wish I knew her name but she was blonde, caucasian, I think may have had an Eastern European accent too, and she held my hand when I was anxious and teary. I couldn't be more thankful!
Lastly, Dr Saharay - so far my recovery is going very well. And I appreicated how he took the time before the day of the surgery to answer all of my questions.

Nuffield Health Oxford

I chose Nuffield Health Oxford because, as the most expensive gym in my area, I expected a decent level of care and customer service from a company centred on health and wellbeing. My experience has been the opposite.

Timeline:
19 June 2026: I contacted the club to request a medical freeze because a health condition meant I could no longer make proper use of the facilities. I had already stopped using the gym several weeks earlier.

23 June: Having received no response, I contacted the Oxfordshire management team. I was told that the standard freeze deadline had passed, but my questions about the process for unexpected medical situations were not answered.

25 June: I replied explaining that this was not a planned absence such as a holiday and asked how Nuffield Health deals with members who become unexpectedly unwell.

30 June: With my July Direct Debit due the following day, I followed up again, copied Customer Relations and requested that the payment be paused pending resolution of my medical request.

1 July: The Direct Debit was taken.

9 July: I finally received a reply from the club apologising for the delay (!), explaining that the payment could not be stopped “because of the payment run”, and offering to freeze my membership from August -- subject to a medical letter. My questions about refunding July, my request to terminate my membership, and my formal complaint were not addressed.

21 July: I am still waiting for any response from Customer Relations to my formal complaint.
What disappoints me most is not the policy itself. It is the ignoring of my queries and the dismissal of what could have been a serious medical condition. I am relatively well, but I have dealt with terminal illness in my family and know how important it is to be treated with basic humanity, urgency and respect. Instead, I was met with silence and indifference.

Having now read other reviews of the Oxford gym, I can see that concerns about communication and customer service are not unique to my experience. There are many seniors at the gym, and I worry they are being treated in the same cold, dismissive way, as if they are merely a number. I also noticed that comments are disabled on the gym's Instagram account, which makes it difficult for customers to raise concerns publicly. It gives one the impression that the focus is on direct debits and posting cute videos on Instagram in the hope of attracting more of them, rather than on actually looking after members.

At this point I have lost confidence in Nuffield Health Gym (I had a good experience with their hospital) and simply want a fair resolution.

Please do not ask me to contact customer service yet again or send this request again to my gym, as this has already been done multiple times.

Although you are unable to help me on my first visit because it seemed I had a kidney problem, that go through A&E, it's only seem to rectify itself, but your help and assistance with a letter save me a lot of time. I did have some help from Prof Kelly with the catheter problem which he dealt with quickly and efficiently. I am waiting to go back and think this out properly. Everything I experienced was friendly and professional.

Good experience

It was lovely to be treated respectfully and staff took the time to be reassuring. Mr Obakponovwe is the most amazing surgeon and my anaesthetist was thoughtful and took time to explain things. Without exception every nurse was kind and helpful. The room was a bit basic with no air con and could do with some nice pictures to brighten it up. The food was a hit and miss, sometimes excellent and sometimes just ok. I generally had a positive experience though.

I was an extremely nervous patient but was quickly put at ease by the team. The secretaries, eye care team and Mr David Anderson are second to none, I would highly recommend their services including the aftercare.

Shoulder operation at Nuffield Parkside Hospital

I was booked in at Nuffield Parkside Hospital in Wimbledon on 9th July to have calcification scraped off from my left shoulder bone, through keyhole surgery, and after my experience, I would highly recommend Parkside Wimbledon!

I can only praise the level of care, efficiency and kindness shown to me from arrival at reception and Tony taking me through, to seeing the lovely Seanade in the Pharmacy.
My nurse, Melinda, was very kind, friendly and professional, and made me feel immediately at ease.
A lovely lady called Christine came round with a menu and explained about the food options. I don't go to hospitals much thank God, and I was surprised they would offer as I was treated via the NHS at this private hospital; but it was definitely needed after the op, and greatly appreciated.
Then came Jim the anesthetist, who explained how the General Anaesthetics work and what happens, and patiently answered my questions, since finding a vein has been an issue in blood tests and donations. He was also very good in the pre-op room, together with Rodney - both very professional and reassuring, which is what you want ahead of a procedure.
An Australian physiotherapist, Joe, gave me all instructions for the exercises and what to expect in terms of recovery. He also booked me in for a follow up appointment at a time when I don't have to take more time off work, which is really great - although it is not guaranteed, I appreciated him managing to.
Of course the wonderful surgeon, Mr Proctor, came to see me and explain about the procedure again in his clear, confident and reassuring manner. I felt in very good hands from the first meeting, but it was brilliant for him to come and see me at the end as well and give me a word of advice before I left.
Porter Albie took me down to the operating room, and then Mitch was there when I woke up, and reassured me and comforted me as I unexplainably started cried once awake; he said that it happens, even if we don't know why, and he was empathetic exactly what you need in those moments.
Nurses Denise and Gina were super supportive throughout, and cared for me fully before removing the cannula and making sure I was in a safe place before being discharged. On my request, since I've never had to ask before and don't know if work needed one, they provided a sick note without delay.
I even got a call the following day from Maria, checking on me, and her tip to put ice on my shoulder after the exercises has immensely helped too.
The whole journey has been excellent. I feel already much better physically, and the pain has been more than manageable. Every single staff I have dealt with was courteous, knowledgeable and professional. Thank you for making my operation day a positive experience. Please pass my appreciation to every person I mentioned... the job can be thankless - but it is not unseen. God bless you for all you do.

Incredibly disappointing for serious swimmers – management completely ignoring emails

I am deeply frustrated with the current management and pool availability at Nuffield Health in Oxford.

My daughter is a competitive junior swimmer, currently ranked in the top 5 in the UK for her age group. She needs consistent, quality water time to maintain her training, but it has become practically impossible for her to swim here.

The pool scheduling is heavily skewed. Both the indoor and outdoor pools are frequently designated as "adult-only." On the rare occasions that "family swimming" is permitted, only one lane is allocated for lane swimming. To make matters worse, this single lane is invariably taken up by adults swimming at a leisurely pace, meaning a serious athlete cannot get a proper training session done.

I have tried to resolve this constructively. I have emailed the manager numerous times about this issue. After initially acknowledging the problem and stating she would sort it out because my daughter is a serious swimmer, she has now completely ignored my last five emails. To visit the centre today to literally not be able to lane swim in the ‘family session’ due to 4 slow adult swimmers and 1 walking in the lane is extremely disappointing.

With school the ‘family swims’ that are advertised just simply doesn’t work.

For a premium health club, the lack of flexibility, poor lane management, and downright dismissive communication from management is completely unacceptable. If you have children who are serious about their swimming, look elsewhere.

Reply from Nuffield Health

Dear Danny,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We appreciate you outlining your concerns and providing context regarding your daughter's swimming achievements and training requirements.

Firstly, we would like to acknowledge the clear distinction between your daughter's needs as a highly competitive swimmer and those of the general membership. Reaching a top-5 UK ranking within her age group is an outstanding achievement, and we fully understand the importance of consistent access to suitable training facilities in supporting that level of performance.

We are sorry to hear of your frustration regarding pool access and your experience during family swim sessions. We also appreciate that, from your perspective, the availability of dedicated lane swimming has not met your expectations, particularly when the designated lane is being used by swimmers of varying abilities and speeds.

That said, we would like to clarify that the current swimming timetable is not the subject of this review and therefore falls outside the scope of the feedback process. The timetable is carefully designed to balance the needs of a wide range of members, including adults, families, recreational swimmers and those wishing to exercise through lane swimming.

Our pools are designed as leisure facilities within a health club, serving a wide range of members with different swimming abilities and objectives. While we aim to provide opportunities for lane swimming wherever possible, we are unable to offer the same level of dedicated training space, lane availability, or performance-focused environment that would typically be available at a municipal or specialist competitive swimming pool.

We recognise that this may not meet the requirements of swimmers training at an elite or competitive level, and we appreciate that this can be disappointing. However, our facilities are intended to serve a broad membership base rather than operate as a specialist training venue.

We are also sorry that you feel your recent communications have not been addressed to your satisfaction and appreciate you bringing this concern to our attention. We will ensure your comments are shared with the club management team for their awareness and consideration.

Thank you again for your feedback.

Kind regards,

Ben

They tried to take money from me that…

They tried to take money from me that was not owed. I ended up in a prolonged email dispute with them, where they refused to listen to me. They refused to liaise with my insurance company, and then threatened debt collection. When I complained they said they were investigating the complaint but it took months with no response. They breached a subject access request. I threatened to sue and they investigated and resolved the complaint in my favour in under 2 weeks. I was issued a refund. Rude and dismissive staff and you have to actually send a notification you are going to sue them for them to do anything.
