Finally, a Truly Chicken-Free Dog Food
I decided to switch my German Shepherd to Nala because he has a chicken allergy that caused constant scratching and significant hair loss on his stomach as a result. I was surprised by how difficult it was to find both dry and wet dog food that did not contain chicken in some form, even products marketed as beef or lamb and even those branded as hypoallergenic. While many brands include hydrolysed chicken protein, which is intended to reduce allergenicity by breaking the chicken proteins into smaller fragments, I remained concerned that incomplete hydrolysis could still trigger an allergic response. Nala's insect protein formulation provided a truly alternative protein source. I now have his dietary sensitivities under control - no scratching - hair growth back to normal!
