They put in zero effort in finding my car. I realize it is a tough market right now and I had specific things I wanted and was not in a rush, but, how did I end up finding the car before they did if they were working on it? Not impressed. Would not recommend.

Misleading claims & M.I.A. personnel

I signed up with them only to be disappointed. Multiple times they simply disappeared from communication for WEEKS, then MONTHS at a time. Needless to say they stopped sending options and weren’t negotiating. When I called once to ask for a refund, the woman who answered the phone was confused who I was (even after giving my name and though she was my account manager). Really disappointing experience. Had to write for a refund 3 times over the course of months to get it. And completely unapologetic. Seeing all the positive reviews had me interested initially, so balancing this out with my first-hand experience for anyone else reading the reviews.

I normally don't write reviews but I…

I normally don't write reviews but I had such a positive experience I felt that other needed to know. I was looking for a new car and started the process on my own doing it all on line thinking I would avoid the hassles. I knew exactly what I wanted and the range that this car would cost so how hard could it be. Well needless to say it was awful. Beyond the normal back and forth and never getting a fair price there were unethical things taking place that I could not believe a dealership was going to try to get over on me. That is when I reach out to Myhopscotch. I was skeptical at first but after a few Min with Crystal on the phone I was feeling a whole lot more confident. Crystal was perfect in finding me the exact car that I wanted at a fair price. I did not have to do anything accept what she had found. I also have to admit that I knew what I wanted and she was patient in finding the exact car that I wanted. I would highly recommend this buy service. Gary

Terribly Frustrating Experience

Terribly, terribly disappointed.

I was looking for a very specific 2019 BMW and was having trouble finding one with the specs I wanted. I called them and felt confident with their 100% satisfaction guarantee.

I quickly heard back from Paul, who told me my search was impossible and that the car does not exist. I told him I'd actually found two of them in Portland, but the one with my preferred spec was $5.5K over Blue Book. I'm in the SF Area, but he said he had the perfect person to bring it here.

We hung up and he called the dealership and got $500 off and gave me a long story about the impossibility of the used car market. I felt bad that they didn't do better or find other options, but they made me promise on our first call not to bargain with the dealer directly once I signed on with MyHopscotch, and I respected that. I said yes to the car.

Then he told me it would be weeks to get it delivered, so I decided to fly up to get it myself, as my previous car had been totaled and I needed a replacement.

Paul had me text him my drivers license and insurance info for the dealership and put me in contact with them. But he left me to arrange the details. And I had to re-text the dealer the DL and insurance photos, since Paul had taken a picture of his phone screen with someone else's phone, and it was unreadable.

Yes, that personal info got onto someone else's phone.

I figured that MyHopscotch was working on paperwork and dealing with the dealer as promised, but when I got there two days later nothing was done and it was three hours of paperwork.

So...

1. Hopscotch did not find the car - I did.
2. Hopscotch did not negotiate a deal. $500 on a $49K vehicle, even in a rough market, is pretty sad.
3. Hopscotch did not help me with my paperwork.

So for about 10 minutes on the phone they charged $700 AND failed to deliver what they promised.

After I drove 625 miles back home and thought about it, I told Paul my disappointment. I recounted that I did most of the work and was dissatisfied. I signed them on trusting that they would make a difference, but they did not.

In fact, if they had NOT been involved, I would have taken more control and probably have asked about doing more of the paperwork remotely.

So I told him I wasn't going to ask for a full refund, but rather that we split the fee, recognizing that the person who took the time to set me up before I spoke with him, and his (little) time was worth something. It ultimately didn't work out, but I didn't want to "stiff" them.

He was indignant and said he'd call me back. He did a few minutes later and said no.

I spoke with the initial contact person about my dissatisfaction and the fact that I trusted her initial statement about the money-back guarantee. She emailed me a statement (obviously pasted into her email, and probably written by Paul), saying "this matter has been discussed at all levels of our company and there is complete alignment among all about this matter" and refusing my reasonable suggestion.

Looking at many reviews, it seems that everyone worked with Paul. I don't think this is a network of operatives as they sort of imply, but rather one or two guys doing the same web searches we all do. And in my case, not as well.

The few hundred dollars I wasted is not the big deal - it's that they didn't deliver and refuse to be fair and decent about admitting it.

Buyer Beware!

Thank you, Erick, for your feedback. We are disappointed to hear that your experience with our service has fallen short of your expectations. You hired us out of frustration because you could not even get anyone to return your call at the dealership, let alone negotiate with you. You desired a very specific car (only a couple available in the whole country) and you needed it immediately and did not want to lose that car. After we made contact, negotiated the entire deal, and presented it to you, you expressed nothing but satisfaction. When we made the out-of-state delivery arrangements for you, you chose to fly in and drive it home because you wanted it “now”. You expressed nothing but satisfaction and praise during every step before moving on to the next. We are extremely disappointed to know otherwise. We feel terrible for declining your request for a discount when you contacted us weeks after you had your car. Regardless of how many thousands of clients we have served with total satisfaction, your feedback has forced us to look at our concern resolution processes. We are continuously seeking out ways to improve, and we are grateful to you for your feedback. We wish you all the best that life has to offer.

I do not usually right to many reviews…

I do not usually right to many reviews but feel writing a positive review for MyHopScotch is the least I can do. I have had the pleasure of working with Paul at MyHopScotch twice, first 2.5 years ago and then this week. In 2018 he had helped me to get a remarkable lease deal on a Jeep Compass Trailhawk that met all of my specification and within a very tight window of time. This time in 2021 we touched base with 6 months remaining on my lease and he was able to get me credit for the equity as a trade in towards a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon. This is my dream jeep, he found in the specific color I had been looking and he negotiated a great deal all within a 48-hour time period. There honestly is no other way I would be driving this vehicle at the budget I had set without Paul’s work. I also should mention that I am in the Cleveland area while Paul is on the west coast. He was still able to research several vehicles and dealerships all in my surrounding area, ultimately finding the best deal within 30 minutes of my home. I highly recommend the service.

Worth It!!

It started with my 04 car’s transmission needing replacing. After deciding that wasn’t worth it, I decided to reach out to Paul. He helped my wife get her car the year before and she had nothing but positive feedback.
After giving Paul the details on what type of vehicle I was looking for he got to work and found me the one I wanted. He helped with applying for financing and setting up the appointment for picking up the car. Unfortunately, the car was at a dealership I would never recommend to anyone. Upon arriving to pick up the car, I was told that the car was given out as a loner the day before. Paul reached out to the dealership and after a discussion worked it out for them to bring the car to me. After bringing the car to me, I signed all the papers and noticed there was no paperwork stating it was Pre-Owned Certified which is what was advertised. I called Paul about this and he right away took a screen shot of the online advertisement which saved the day because the dealership later said it was not certified. Having this proof allowed for me to bring in the car to get certified which I happened to get new tires at no charge. So a win, win!!!
I cannot thank Paul enough for his service with getting me my vehicle. He is very knowledgeable and was very upfront with how the car buying business works. He was with me every step of the way which in this case saved me a lot of headaches. If you are looking for someone to do the legwork and save you from the hassle of dealing directly with the dealer then going with Paul @ My Hopscotch is the way to go!

Maria M

Maria M. – Novato
I saved over $3,000!

I had been driving a 2002 Camry LE for over 18 years. It had almost 200,000 miles on it and it showed! I was very fond of that car, but that’s not the reason I kept it long after parts started falling off of it and it made noises that I could only describe as “Other-worldly”. I kept it because the anxiety of going to a dealership was worse than the embarrassment of having to pop a fender back in place every few days. The commissioned salespeople, the negotiating, the haggling, the wondering what a good deal really was and then never being sure if I got the best deal - it was too much for me. I pretty much decided that the old Camry would either have to outlive me or my next car would be a wheelchair.
Then something wonderful happened! My daughter told me that there are people who handle all that stressful stuff for you now; they’re called car brokers! Her neighbor was retired from the industry but referred her to a man he said was “the best in the business”, Paul Winquist with myHopscotch. She said they find what you want, do all the negotiating, and get you a better price than you can get anywhere else. I admit I was skeptical, but hey, we were in the middle of Covid quarantine, I had nobody to talk to, so I gave Paul a call.
I think we were on the phone for no more than 30 minutes. I knew what I wanted so it was a little easier. A new Camry LE with Zero financing please. He went over his impressive background and the array of services he provides, the minimal cost of his services and the value and return on investment I was getting. He asked me some questions and talked to me about some options that were available, made some suggestions and we nailed down the perfect vehicle choice for me. Then he asked me how soon I wanted the car. I wasn’t in a hurry; Covid you know, I can’t go anywhere. We hung up and I remember thinking that he was so great to talk to that even if I didn’t buy a car, I wanted him to be my new best friend.
Paul called me back within 45 minutes. I thought he had another question. He said he had the car. I thought he was kidding. He wasn’t. My new Camry LE was DELIVERED to me the next day. I didn’t even have to leave my house! Oh, and he got me $1,000.00 for the old car which everyone thought was worthless! I can’t guarantee it always happens this quickly, but I can say without hesitation this is the best car buying experience I have ever had and I would never buy a car again without Paul! MyHopscotch works for you the client, not the dealer. If you’re thinking about buying a car, new or used, I urge you to call myHopscotch first.

If I could give them zero or negative…

If I could give them zero or negative stars, I would. My brother recommended MyHopscotch to me based off of his good experience so I gave it a try. My represenative, Ryan Castillo seemed competent at first, but I found that NOT to be the case. I told him the kind of truck I wanted and the STARTING price I was looking for, which I thought could be found easily because I had seen multiple dealerships on cars.com and truecar.com advertising trucks starting well below my desired starting price. Well, Ryan was unable to find me a deal that was even remotely close to what I found. All the trucks he found started at le as least $2000-$3000 above the starting prices I found. When I asked them why this was so, he tried to condescend to me that I didn't know about tax, titke, license, extra fees, etc. I was well aware of these fees, but he was unable to find a better starting price than I could....and I literally only looked for 5 minutes. I sent him some of the deals I found and he thought they were good so he tried to set up a deal and the deal fell through basically because he did not ask simple questions. The dealer was dishonest, but we wouldnt have wasted time with them if Ryan hadn't been so incompetent and asked the right questions from the jump. After going through more of the same with him on 1 or 2 mkre trucks, I decided that this was not for me as MYHOPSCOTCH DOES ABSOLUTELY NOTHING LIKE THEY ADVERTISE. I inquired about a refund, which I knew I wasn't going to get based on the dishonesty of Ryan I had ready experienced. But I wrote a well thought out email explaining my grievences in a respectful manner. All he did was plead with me to keep trying and when I said I would rather not, he said he would speak to his supervisor. Instead, Ryan just never responded to me again. This company is horrible. DO NOT USE THEM. If you dk, try to get another represenative THAT IS NOT RYAN CASTILLO. He is 100% unprofessional.

Best way to buy a car

One thing I absolutely hate is the whole Car Buying experience, (fast talking, numbers changing, promises, high pressure sales etc…) – sorry, I just threw up in my mouth. My time and sanity is better spent elsewhere. So this time when my wife wanted to buy her dream car that she has been working so hard for, I knew it would be a good idea to hire a professional. I came across Paul at myHopscotch while doing my research on the internet. After our first conversation, explaining our situation, I knew I hired the right person. I told Paul the exact car she wanted (which had to be ordered) and he went to work. Not to bore you with a long drawn out story, this came from their summary email finalizing the deal. • Researched the market, Blue Book values and the market conditions • Searched the area for comparable vehicles • Found four possibilities and talked to every dealer • After several conversations with each dealer, disqualified three out of four, due to either false advertising, deceptive business practices, or vehicle price/availability.• Narrowed the selection down to one dealership that was local to you and was able and willing to order the vehicle at the price agreed upon.• Researched Dealer’s reputations and found it to be outstanding. • Negotiated the price to $4337.00 below the dealerships invoice price which saved you $8,722 off of MSRP.• MyHopscotch arranged for the order but Mercedes was unable to build it with the features requested, MyHopscotch stayed with you till Mercedes could build you a 2019.• MyHopscotch negotiated the interest rate down from 2.34 to 1.34 which was the dealerships cost, saving you $2808.00 over the life of the lease.• Negotiated the dealership to include the aftermarket items at a discounted price and they included the window tint for free saving you $1000.00• Made several contacts to arrange for document signing and an outstanding new vehicle orientation at the time of delivery. Total dealer contacts: 27-Total savings through offering an alternative: $12,530.00-Total Client Hours Saved: 13
In summary, hiring Paul at myHopscotch was the best decision and car buying experience I have ever had. There is no doubt in my mind I would have paid at least $5k more if I would have done this on my own, not evening considering how much stress and time I would have spent. So if you are in the market for a new or used vehicle, Paul is your Car Buying Professional.

Don't use if you live in the Midwest or are buying Used

This program may work well out on the coasts or if you are purchasing a new car, but the program was not very good when one is purchasing a used car in the MidWest. I wound up spending more on their service fee than what they saved me, and they made the process actually more complicated, as they were a middle man and were unfamiliar with the area, car dealers, and options. There was no help with finding a lender, and I felt like I was forgotten about.
UPDATE- They also do not stand by their "refund for any reason" statement within the service agreement. 1 Star
