Impossible to cancel the renewal. They will give you an endless run around that stops you from cancelling the subscription. I feel its basically a scam. Overall product has poor functionality and there are better ones on the market.
Just check out all the reviews on here. Dont buy carly !
The subscription automatically renews because apparently you clicked a box 12 months ago agreeing to it !
No reminders sent,no easy way to cancel your subscription *which has to be done 1 month before it is due *!
No refunds given
No telephone numbers only online chat !
AVOID AT ALL COST !
Get a scanner off ebay for a tenner and save yourself so much grief !

I cannot in good conscience recommend Carly to anyone. This company operates with what feels like intentionally deceptive practices designed to trap customers into expensive, long-term financial commitments without clear consent.
The Issues:
Hidden Subscriptions: They do not make it clear at the point of purchase that you are signing up for an ongoing annual subscription. I was shocked to see nearly £100 suddenly withdrawn from my bank account without my knowledge.
No Renewal Warning: Incredibly, they sent zero reminders or notifications that a renewal was approaching. Most reputable companies give you a heads-up; Carly simply waits for the money to hit their account, hoping you won't notice until it's too late.
Zero Accountability: When I raised a complaint, I was told that a "tiny checkbox" ticked over 12 months ago was sufficient evidence for them to keep taking my money. This is a classic "dark pattern" used to exploit consumers.
Disregard for Consumer Law: They appear to ignore consumer protection regulations both in their home country and the UK. Their refusal to offer any form of compensation—despite clearly misleading me and many of other reviewers—is appalling.
It is clear from the sheer volume of similar reviews that this isn't an "oversight"—it is their business model. They rely on "gotcha" tactics rather than providing a service people actually want to stay subscribed to.
VERDICT: Do not give this company your card details. They are a money-hungry outfit that lacks any shred of professional integrity. AVOID, AVOID, AVOID.

Terrible company. This product is a scam. They tell you it works on bmw and then you get it and the app itself tells you it wont work with your car. then they offer no refund (breaching UK consumer law). the product auto signs you up to a year sub without telling you.

Terrible, used once. Year later billed me £71 for the yearly subscription and quoted German law allowed them to. Tried to charge back through my bank but they challenged it; avoid this product and company.
New rules to protect consumers and stop companies like this coming to the U.K. in 2027

It’s a rip off didn’t work and they make it difficult to unsubscribe. I thought I had closed this when charged last year and another payment taken.
They outright refuse refunds

This is sadly one of those highway robbery companies who sign you up and auto renew without giving any email confirmations, reminders, or alerts.
I would strongly urge anyone who has downloaded the app and looked at it to dig very deeply and check for this “auto renewal” time bomb.
Finally got it cancelled after a chain of emails but they steadfastly refuse to refund the money stolen. Even when I showed them a screenshot of my app being locked.

Would give it 0,watch out they renew it after a year without telling you and using your bank card without authorisation, no email, no coms, avoid like the plaque, scammers, £80 taken without even informing me and using my card without my authorization disgusting and refuse to refund,
Tried contacting support and no help or refund. Your terms and conditions are misleading and nowhere does it state you will use your bank card unauthorised and no email to let you know. Only know when they take it out and then refuse refund. Avoid like the plaque awful customer service

Auto renewal without prior notice. Not clear at time of sign up and they don't give a crap. Hide behind German rental law. This looks like nothing more that a bait and switch scam - highly misleading. And with obsequious customer service feigning to be helpful for a good bit of being patronised. It is also a poor product which was disappointing in itself. Avoid at all costs.

UTTER SCAM
DO NOT BUY FROM THESE PEOPLE
I cancelled my subscription 2 months before renewal, they still charged me £105 for renewal on a product I paid £40 for.
They refuse to refund me. Absolute scammers.

UK Buyers beware, subscription is setup to auto renew! This isn’t obvious and when challenged they state they are governed by German law and not UK las . As the way in which they are setup and operating is unfair contract term under UK law, not denied by them and an underhand way of operating and profitering. Also the cancellation request is governed by them, the web and apps do not allow you to cancel. Web reviews are littered with issues with this company.

Absolute joke of a scam business, sent my scanner back the following day, waited nearly 20 days, and still no refund, got to go through "ticket" hoops, to get nowhere, avoid this scam company unless your minted to buy all the subscriptions

The Carly connect is good for changing some of the cars hidden features such as dial sweep etc.
It also provides the fault codes if your car has any.
However smart mechanic is pretty useless wouldn’t advise to buy this.
There are definitely cheaper options that offer the same product.
The annual subscription also auto renews which is a bit of a surprise when £100+ leaves your bank and they say this cannot be refunded. To cancel you MUST contact them there is no option to opt out. ( obviously this is in the ‘ fine print ‘ )
Overall would not reccomend this product less money can be better spent elsewhere on a similar product or more money can be spent on something that can be used for actual fault finding.

No response from customer service when Carly was not working with a 2001 Ford Mondeo ( I paid extra for All Cars!)
No response when trying to cancel next years subscription fee and had to cancel my bank card so money would not be taken even though I wanted to cancel there was no response and I knew they would try to take another years fee so I cancel my bank card and low & behold next day customer service was in touch to say my payment had failed😂 no shit.

Product works fine but they renew your annual subscription without any warning or chance to cancel first. You have to contact them before the renewal is due which feels a bit sneaky

Overpriced subscription service. I moved to competitors like launch which for a one off purchase provide all diagnostic and service functionality for a cheaper value than the Carly yearly subscription and carly adapter combined

What a scam and waste of money
This all is useless. I bought last year yearly subscription, no one from them tells me this is auto renewal subscription also now no one told me my app is due to renewal, they just charged me and i found out by accident my all has been renewed. This is scam and joke. I want my refund.

Company charged me almost $300 over 2 years for annual subscription that I didn't know I was being charged for. Also refused refund due to not noticing small print. Devise was also very slow to use

If I could give 0/10 I would
If I could give 0/10 I would.
Customer service is awful, pre written responses not listening to my complaint.
Auto renewal is a con, they don’t email you to remind you it’s going out.
I haven’t used the item since buying it, no refund even though I asked for it directly after renewal payment went out.

Please be cautious when dealing with this company. I purchased a product from them and requested a refund and order cancellation before it was even shipped. Despite this, they claimed it wasn’t possible and went ahead with the shipment anyway.
After several unsuccessful attempts to resolve the issue directly, I contacted my bank to initiate a chargeback and filed a complaint with Verbraucherzentrale Bundesverband — the consumer protection authority in Germany.
Since they sent the product despite my cancellation request, I had to return it at my own expense. Initially, during the email correspondence, they insisted that a refund was not possible. Later, they offered a 20% voucher instead of returning my money. However, once they heard that I had escalated the matter, they finally issued a full refund.
If you’ve had a similar experience, keep in mind that it is possible to recover your money by taking the appropriate steps. Just follow the steps that I did.
Make sure to save all email correspondence with their customer service, as it can serve as important evidence during the refund or chargeback process. Your bank may ask for this documentation.
Please also cancel the card you used for the purchase. I’ve seen reviews from others who requested subscription cancellations, yet continued to be charged even a year later — a common tactic used by dishonest companies.
Additionally, the company does not clearly disclose that the purchase involves an annual subscription — this information is only visible after scrolling down on their page. The checkout page also states that refunds are not possible, which is misleading and not in line with EU consumer protection laws. This information is presented in small, grey text, making it easy to overlook. This is also inconsistent with e-commerce regulations.
Many thanks for reading. I hope this review helps others avoid a similar situation — and if it has already happened to you, I hope you’re able to get your money back.
