Mr. Motor in North York, Toronto, Canada

On June 2, 2026, I saw an ad for a 2014 Black Mercedes C350 with 52k kilometres on it selling for $17,888 at Mr. Motor Inc. in North York, Toronto. I called them to inquire if the car was still available and spoke with a salesperson named Ali. He told me the car was still available and was in pristine condition having had only one owner. Ali also said that the car had never been driven in winter. I asked if everything was working on the car and Ali told me everything was in excellent condition. Ali sent videos of the inside, underneath and outside of the car. I gave Ali a deposit of $1000 to hold the car for me as I was coming from Ottawa. Ali mentioned that there would be an additional fee of $999 added to the car price for PDI (Pre Delivery Inspection) of the vehicle. I made arrangements for my husband and I to travel by train from Ottawa to Toronto to purchase the vehicle. When we arrived at Mr. Motor Inc. we looked the car over and it had a few scratches on it but was in very good condition for a 2014. When we got in the vehicle to take it for a drive, we noticed that the start button was missing and that you had to insert the key which was quite odd because normally the ignition is a silver button that you push. As we were driving we also noticed that the blind spot indicators on the mirrors weren't working. The radio was displaying on the screen but there was no sound coming out of the speakers even after we tried the mute and volume buttons. The navigation system wasn't working and you couldn't access the car's settings on the central console. Obviously, we were very disappointed and did not want to purchase a vehicle with so many electrical issues. We were very upset as we had just spent over six hours travelling by train and subway to the dealership from Ottawa at a cost of $500. Now we had to go back home without a car to drive. It cost us another $500 for the train to go back home and another six hours for the trip back. Needless to say it was an exhausting and frustrating experience.

What is really upsetting about this situation is that Ali told us many times that the car was in perfect condition and everything was working perfectly. The dealership was charging $999 to prepare the vehicle. Why weren't these issues fixed or disclosed to us? Had Ali told us what wasn't working on the car, we would not have gone to such trouble and expense to purchase the car. Ali did refund our deposit but did not offer to compensate us for our out of pocket expenses to travel to Toronto and back home for expenses that we would not of incurred if they had been forthright in advising us that the car was not ready for us to pick up. We would not recommend this dealership as they obviously did not perform the PDI that they claimed was done and the car was not ready for us to drive back to Ottawa. This is the worst experience we have ever had dealing with a car dealership.
