Fantastic installers!

I had a gas stove installed this week. (It looks like a wood burner but without the hassle!)
Three amazing guys carried the work, all very capable and well qualified, but above all extremely pleasant, courteous and punctual. My house is very old, so this was not a straightforward job, but Jordan, Max and Dave just completed it with a good grace. It was a pleasure to have them in my home for two days!

Full install of wood burner and flue

As an owner of a 3–bed 60s-built terrace, I always imagined that it would not be possible to install a wood burner in the centre of my property. So, on the off-chance, I reached out to Milborrow to explore the possibility, and, to my delight, they were able to provide a total plan and build.

Tim and Ben provided excellent customer service, on-site technical know-how and were great to have working in my home. The project came in under budget, and was completed in the forecast timeframe. Very much recommended!

Super service and superb sweeping.

My elderly mother (97 and 6 months) had not used her gas fire for several years and wisely asked me to get the fire and chimney safety checked. Jordan from Milborrow was very kind and professional as he assessed the situation. My mother speaks very highly of Jordan and is very grateful for his identification of a high carbon monoxide reading. This was caused by heavy spiders webs in the flue and rectified by a sound sweeping. The fire is not hazardous now and my mum can use it, secure in the knowledge that it is safe. Great work, Jordan and Milborrow. Thank you very much.

Excellent rthroughout

Just as trades should be… but add extra gold star! Arrived on time. Today, courteous, friendly, patient… do very clean. Explained the paperwork…. Have several payment methods. Ive used for several years to sweep chimney and wouldn’t use anyone else. Highly recommended. Louis was fab…extra kudos!!

These guy are great

These guy are great. They come on time, they give good advice, they help with the bits I can do myself, they safety insure/ensure my wood stove flue in a wooden house, they smile, joke, love dogs, they understand what wood is good and what is not, they make me laugh.

They are family for me.

Appalling Service !!!

I stupidly ignored the negative reviews of this company, but couldn’t agree more with the 1 stars reported here.

Management has been incredibly rude, overcharged us for a service that was not delivered and when trying to resolve they resorted to yelling down the phone.

They admitted on the day that they had sent the wrong person - a chimney sweeper rather than someone who could do the survey requested. We were then charged a full fee for a survey and sweep (when no survey was conducted) and told they changed their mind later on, and they could see from the road what was needed so quoted for further work?!

I would highly recommend using them at all costs.

Good Afternoon,

Management was chasing for the overdue payment now received as per the email string and conformation all agreed pre works on charges and fees @ £70+VAT to sweep the flue (to confirm no problems or blockages which can cause damp) and complete a site survey at the same time to investigate the damp ingress. Followed with an estimate from the survey Est 24/20543 with recommended remedial works.

For some unknown reason you believe the survey wasn't completed and the wrong person was sent. All the operatives/engineers are chimney sweeps alongside other roles so this statement isn't true (he also swept the chimney?!) we have billed for works completed as emailed pre works at the agreed fees. If you didn't think this was right why was the outstanding monies settled and you have resorted to slandering us online after settling the monies...

Another annual sweep from this company…

Another annual sweep from this company who always know the solution when problems occur. The annual sweep is always done efficiently with sound advice and we wouldn’t go anywhere else. If you think the price is high remember: you get what you pay for and a chimney fire would cost you a fortune as well as the damage.

Wonderful chimney sweeps

Wonderful chimney sweeps. Efficient, knowledgeable,quick,everything cleaned up afterwards.With no need to use the computer, really nice ladies at the end of the phone , who call you to remind you that the time is right for the next clean, and I like being able to pay over the phone rather than the internet. Good old fashioned company values.

Excellent service

I recently had my chimney swept and I was very impressed with their service. They did a professional job, cleaning, I'm very happy with the results and would highly recommend them to anyone in need of a chimney sweep.

Thoroughly unpleasant

It’s not in any way the engineers who made this work so unpleasant, it’s the mgt. Dispute with customers is clearly sport for them, just look at other reviews and how feedback is niggled at.

Our frustration at the delay met with adolescent bickering which defies belief, from a firm so ready to remind us of their royal connection (attained by the last generation of mgt I understand).

Even when we explained that so much of the issue was their tone and manner and a limp apology was offered, the final bill is delivered with stomach turning sass - it just tops off a completely rubbish engagement.

Unless you were used to resorting to it, why would you need to send an invoice draped in threat, quoting legal precedent for late payment fees (8% above base!) and a bunch of other threats, all in the main body of the note. Not reserved for the footnotes ….

Don’t get me wrong, we have a working fire now, but it just feels like .. yep we got really burned.

I again apologize that we couldn't complete the works due to the weather as it was raining (opening up your roof and white/cream carpets that our engineers were not happy to complete despite turning up to site to get the job done) and re-scheduled the following Thursday for works moving works around to facilitate this for you.

After being accused I was trying to swindle you, indeed I mentioned our Royal Warrants and heritage to reassure you as a company we are here for the long run and not going anywhere. After I had been very obliging in assisting in your technical inquiries (50+ emails) despite you sourcing the unit elsewhere and even assisting in informing you of additional items you needed for the appliance to purchase from said company. I found the telephone conversation with you and your wife most strange when we rescheduled the appointment due to weather but offense wasn't my intention.

Indeed due to previous customers we do put terms on our invoices at +8% above base rate as <5% isn't really much weight to customers who don't pay when works are completed as per estimate. I don't see these as footnotes but that's semantics.

Great job and great advice

We had problems with our chimney stack. After sending pictures to milborrow, they let us know it was very urgent and had scaffolding up and people making it safe within days. More extensive work was done shortly after that. All work has been completed to a very high standard and we have been kept informed throughout. All our questions have been answered fully and knowledgeably. The fireplace is better than we've ever known it. Absolutely delighted with the work and wouldn't hesitate to use Milborrow again.

I have just used Millbirrow for a chimney sweep and what an amazing service it was. From start to finish I can’t fault them, the engineer who turned up talked me through the entire process and really took care of my home. Thank you again and I will certainly be using you from now on

Be warned

Really disappointed at the service. It has been awful and dragged over the period of a year.

Last year, I asked Milborrow to quote and install a bioethanol fire. The sent someone around who said he was there to do an [unneeded] "gas check" and was unabl to provide such a service. He seemed to have no idea what we had asked for. We had to pay for this despite it not being needed and what we had asked for not being provided.

This year we again requested for details and installation of a bioethanol fireplace. I made it very clear that this was needed before Christmas and I was assured it would be possible. Again, someone came round who had no idea we had asked for this service. I had to talk them through the space that needed to be measured, show them the emails and specifications from Milborrow etc - none of which they had. Just to say this person was very pleasant and responsive so I noted that they had provided a good service.

I was told that we would be provided with the quote in a few days. Over a week later, still no quote. Rang up and was spoken to, in my opinion, quite condescendingly and finally given one later that evening. Now being told they cannot do installation until January. Really shocking and terrible.

My experience is that this company promised me something they have not honoured and cost me the opportunity of securing another provider.

We are very surprised you have resorted to online to air your frustrations.

Unfortunately not ringing true to our notes or records on our systems as to the chain of events. Trevor originally attended site on 11th November 2022 to sweep and confirm your old gas fireplace was capped suitably and measured up for a Bio Ethanol appliance that we then provided an estimate for these works once discussed options and details on; 3rd January 2023 - Estimate 23/18563 for Job 86373 we didn't have any response on this estimate sent all summer and autumn.

You have then re-established contact mid October 2023 (Our busy time of year) and we then re-visted on 13th November.

We then sent a new estimate 23/19634 on 21st November 2023. You then emailed on 23rd November asking for availability if booked and we are responded now booking into January 2024 for installations.

We never as a company guarantee installation pre-Christmas we say there is current availability but this is being booked in daily and is subject to manufacturers and suppliers as well with lead times.

I do not follow your statements of ongoing bad service and being de-prioritized we have delivered what we agreed and as requested and the lead times for works are out of our hands and fluctuate daily.

I apologize we cannot meet your schedule requirements and you feel you have lost the opportunity with another company. Should you wish to discuss further please contact us in the offices.

Terrible service level

Terrible service level. Cancelled on us twice with little notice.

1st visit booked for early October and they had to cancel, then couldn't rebook us for another two weeks. We waited in all day on the rescheduled appointment only to be called late afternoon and informed yet again they had to cancel last minute. Our fireplace is our main source of heating and after contacting them about this second cancellation we are informed that the best they could offer would be another long wait (2 weeks)! Very poor given both cancellations were on their side and the time wasting involved. Dreadful customer service experience sadly. Looking for an alternative, reliable service.

I have reviewed your booking J97713. I can only again apologies for the two occasions we have had to reschedule your appointment.

The initial booking was re-scheduled from 16th was due to staff sickness which as I am sure you can appreciate we also have little notice for. This was re-scheduled for the 28th unfortunately on this date the operative booked ran into problems with blockages on a previous job and we have to reschedule again due to him being delayed and overrunning his schedule.

We have re-booked you into the earliest gap of the 11th (having squeezed you into this gap) and have put you on the "bring forward list" I am afraid this time of year we are super super busy and it is very hard to schedule and re-schedule with problems and issues such as the two you have experienced. We do our upmost to manage and inform clients as soon as we are aware of issues.

We hope we can meet your expected level of service on the 11th and thank you for your patience and understanding under the circumstances.
