Salisbury Hotel Hertford- This is the…
Salisbury Hotel Hertford- This is the last time we will eat at the Salisbury Hotel restaurant!
My husband and I booked just after Christmas for Sunday lunch and we had to send it back as it was luke warm at its best. Our friends wanted to celebrate a birthday, I thought we would give them another chance on the 22/02/26 so we went to celebrate my friends birthday. It was 4.30Pm and once again extremely disappointed the food was warm, vegetarian option was sage and onion stuffing with a coloured added to resemble beetroot! They had one portion of cauliflower cheese left which was dry and again warm, the roast potatoes had been sitting about I feel for hours.
I'm so annoyed with myself in not complaining at the time but it was a celebration and I didn't want to spoil the occasion. We spent over £300.00 pounds with wine and feel robbed.
I did send them an email stating the disappointment and they made all the right noises and offered me and Husband another Sunday dinner! No thank you I think twice is enough in not getting it right, I have asked for a third if the bill back and guess what it's all gone very quiet! So the moral of the story go else where for your Sunday dinner! Hertford has plenty of other options, I think I'll give The Practioner my hard earned money next time.
Great afternoon out
Went to the Angels in Hitchin and the food was great, good value for money nice little soft play area for the kids
Very nice atmosphere and definitely will go back.
A miserable dining experience.
Just came back from dinner at the Prince George in Milton Keynes. It was a Saturday in December so I was expecting it to be lively. It was the manager who showed us to our table. Service was good and the food came quickly. However as soon as we started to eat a live band kicked off in the pub area. The bass and drums were thumping loud, and everyone in the dining room had to shout to make themselves heard. What was supposed to be a pleasant dinner became a miserable experience. We were going to have a dessert but the noise was intolerable. We complained and the manager offered us a second drink - on the house - but we just wanted to leave. He said he was unable to do anything with the bill, and that’s fine — a 15% discount t to acknowledge the disappointment would have been nice, but we don’t have to eat there again. And we won’t be. If you are going to have a live band, do it after the dining room has stopped serving so diners can eat in reasonable surroundings. A miserable experience all round.
They don’t want to refund me
I am not being refunded for a cancellation for a table booking. They act like they’ve refunded me when they haven’t. I will categorically never step foot into any of their pubs anymore. They are truly the most unprofessional business I have ever come across. I will start contacting them on a daily basis until I have my money. Avoid unless you want to end up like me.
5 Stars for Tibi
The 5 Star service by Tibi at The Kings Mead and his colleagues was much appreciated. The food was delicious. The friendly atmosphere was relaxing. Thank you.
Good Eating at The Sun pub/ restaurant at Hoddesdon
I attended The Sun Pub/Restaurant in Hoddesdon this evening for dinner.
We were shown to our table that I had pre-booked, the waitress asked if we wanted any drinks, as I was driving 🚗 I ordered a Non alcoholic shandy & my Wife had water.
I ordered the Tomato & Red Pepper Soup & then the chicken & rib combo for my wife & a Sirloin steak for myself both with accompanying vegetables, the food came up piping hot & both were well cooked & very tasty!
The staff were excellent & most helpful which made our evening go very well.
This is a place that I would heartily recommend 👌

booking a group xmas dinner for 16 this year forced to book and enter each choice on line. very slow and asked for first and second names for each diner and email address. Went to venue with neatly written list and told that head office policy is that all groups must order on line. Fourth year at this venue. Chicken of the North near potters bar. our final visit because of this..
Me and my wife went to the Coach and…
Me and my wife went to the Coach and Horses, Thorley on Sunday it use to be very good and we have taken family and friends there but the last few times it seems to of gone abit down hill, i had the Lamb roast the lamb was alot smaller than before and the veg minimal with two half potatos which were hard, then my wife's Tuna turned up and it was terrible, the tuna looked like it had a jar of salt tipped over it and the few potatos on the plate were the size of small olives, it should of come with a health warning, when my wife took her dinner up to the bar to complain the mangeress attitude was also terrible so my wife got a refund and ordered some chips for £5 so she had something to eat, they came out with a metal cup with a few chips in so my wife said she didn't want that and asked for a refund for that aswell, until the manageress learns some people skills and the kitchen step they're game up abit i would avoid if i was you which is a shame because it was a good place.

First visit and before read reviews. Table booked 19:45 in Restaurant. Waitress obviously inexperienced but that’s fine. She took drinks order. 30 mins later came back to take food order. We asked about drinks, she checked at bar and was told 10 - 15 mins as busy! Starters arrived 21:05! Food good but service to restaurant very poor. Had to ask for drinks refill, asked for large wine, received bottle but accepted. Later read reviews and said ‘we are not a restaurant’ well if not a restaurant don’t advertise as one! Bill expensive but ok, although no itemised bill received (naive I know!). Biggest review - won’t be going back!
Food poisoning and pink chicken
Very disappointing experience at Kingfisher on the Quay last night. My partner had a buttermilk chicken burger and it came out pink. After a mouthful or two it had been noticed and we asked for it to be returned to the kitchen. The waitress Charlotte was brilliant and couldn’t have done anything more in that situation. The chef tried to advise the chicken was pink due to the “seasoning” of the chicken however it simply was not the case. Charlotte asked if we wanted to speak with a manager if we remain unhappy - we accepted. 5 minutes later the manager didn’t show and we were greeted with Charlotte again offering to remove this off our bill or to replace with another burger. Understandably we declined and left the restaurant. Afterwards my partner has been up all night throwing up due to this. Disappointed in the lack of accountability from the restaurant/manager (not charlottes service).
Updated - Very disappointing experience in Royston
Very disappointing experience at the Jolly Postie in Royston.
Booked a table on a Monday night for the "Half price pizza" offer (that we verified was available when we booked), but on arrival was told they had "no dough" so pizzas weren't available. A bit of a schoolboy error on a night when Pizzas are supposedly on special offer, but these things happen. That said, most people prepare dough fresh daily, so why not prepare some more. Perhaps your pizzas aren't that fresh....?
We therefore ordered from the normal menu (at full price), but when we left we noticed other tables (including a family we know) DID have pizza!
FACT - we were lied to. FACT - pizzas were available for those that arrived after us.
I can only therefore assume we were lied to as some kind of cynical attempt to increase profits by advertising offers that are then denied to customers - something I suspect the ASA may be interested in...
I referred the matter to head office, and they advised the diners who got pizza after us had somehow "pre- ordered it". Strange - we weren't offered the opportunity to pre order (remembering we specifically checked the pizza offer was still running when we booked...)
I have been offered a "voucher" off my next visit, but this is not acceptable, the value offered is too low and not what I asked for. My (not unreasonable) expectation is a 50% refund of what I paid - to mirror the offer we were denied.
Why not just do the right thing?
I have eaten here many times and won't again. Frankly, the pizzas are not as nice as "Dominos" a couple of doors down (who are cheaper), and the general menu is no better than Wetherspoons also a few doors away, but massively more expensive. Other close by, mid range, options are The Banyers, and Bull Hotel, both of whom do "what they say on the tin", unlike the Jolly Postie.
Dissapointing and Embarrassing Experience with Friendss and Family
I had the worst experience in Jolly Farmer Public House in Slades Hill Enfield. Lady in reception was unfriendly and gave us the Table she allocated was Dim with Uncomfortable Seats. Food was not at all tasty as well . With Turkey Roast and other Roasts the Yorkshire Puddings all Burnt and there was no Stuffings and Chipalotta Sausages were so small that we can Hardly see them. Platting of Food was very very poor, All the vegetables were colourless and over boiled and totally drowned in water thin gravey. The price of food was not worth the quality of food.
ONLY thing I can mention that the young Man who served was very polite and helpful. After the experience of yesterday I do not think we will ever go there again.

worst Meal in over a decade
I was taken here for my Birthday and Father’s day that both coincided on the 19th June.
I have to say its one of the most poorly coordinated, sloppy meals I’ve had in over a decade.
We ordered starters and drinks, the starters arrived before the drinks, we had to chase the waitress for the drinks, then within 5 minutes of the starters arriving the mains arrived. Even though the waitress could see we were still eating our starters the mains were placed on the table and left.
The mains were horrible, it felt like they had literally been on the hot plate all afternoon and just pulled off that minute, and may explain why everything was so dry, Yorkshire pudding was so crispy and dry it literally disintegrated when you tried to cut in to, grave was like jelly. This was the same for all the meals.
I asked to speak to someone about it, after waiting 15 minutes no one had arrived, waitress had spookily disappeared, so we left.
Never work for this company
Never work for this company. The manager lied about me, when I tried to report it, the area manager was rude and HR covered it up. Training is poor, bullying is endemic.

For a fairly new place the service we had was nothing short of atrocious. Simple order. 2x wagyu burgers with black cheese halloumi fries separately and a coffee and some soft drinks. For £7 we got ….. wait for it 8 small halloumi fries. 8! 90p a chip. My coffee turned up without milk. I asked 3 times in the end I demanded a new one as was cold. Oh and still never brought the milk for the first coffee. The burgers had no cheese and the girl said it was on there. It wasn’t. So sent them back. They returned with a piece of black tasteless sludge added size of a postage stamp. On a dry gluten free bun. With mouldy lettuce and a few strings of something. Also a very small pot of 11 and 13 chips respectively. For £18 each? McMullen have outdone themselves. Worst place I have ever been and as I’ve been all over the world that is saying something. Don’t go. Don’t bother. Setting isn’t worth the terrible food or incompetent service.
It was ok, but a few creases to iron out.
I had a decaf coffee (very nice) with full English breakfast.
the waiter was there to take our order and nothing else no smile or greeting. I had my egg scrambled and was quite surprised to find I had not received traditional scrambled egg (the kind that has added milk and butter), instead it was a pile of aggressively fried egg that was cooked to the point of being crispy and did not resemble the full volume of an egg (I think the rest was stuck to the pan). It came with one very nice sausage, 1 slice of bacon (I think 2 slices of bacon would have been more appropriate) a small piece of posh bread toast a small amount of baked beans and enough mushrooms with butter. ketchup would have been nice but the waiter didn't offer sauces and I didn't ask so I believe its my fault for not asking
everything tasted ok so I would not say anything was wrong but they could have been better wit minimal effort
the restaurant itself is very nice and creates a relaxed atmosphere apart from the mess on the floor down the side of the van.
I will return as I saw a lot of nice meals on their menu.
