Madewell’s quality is generally very…

Madewell’s quality is generally very good, though there’s the occasional miss. The prices can feel too high at full cost, but their frequent sales make many items much more reasonable. I consistently enjoy their styles—they’re always on trend, fun, and easy to wear. Overall, a solid brand that I keep coming back to, especially when there’s a good sale.

I’ve purchased several purses from them…

I’ve purchased several purses from them in the past. Just recently, I was eyeing a purse, but waiting for it to go on sale. As soon as it was deeply discounted I ordered it online. What I received was a small box with a pair of silver hoop earrings and nothing else in the box. Not even the order paper document, nothing. I thought it was a joke. The discount was so large it said not returnable due to the discount at the time. How convenient for them. I’m pissed. I called customer service and they gave me a return label and an insert into the box that said I was returning the purse BUT I NEVER received the purse i received earrings. It feels like a scam. Like the packer stole my purse and put clearance madewell earrings in a box instead with no documentation, nothing but the stupid earrings. I returned the earrings and am still waiting for my $109 refund for a purse that was originally $180. I’m so angry at this company. I’ll never shop with them online again because of this experience.

Chinese company with no returns

Chinese company with no returns - be warned
This is a Chinese company set up to look like a reputable online fashion retailer. Don't be fooled by the name and website.

Returns must be posted to China with 'low value' required on parcel so it is not stopped at Chinese Customs.
Company prefers to offer 10% refund in lieu of returns; though with persistence I got 25% refund. This seemed better than potentially no refund and no dress to sell on marketplace.
Even the customer service has an English name 'Lucinda Browne'. What a scam.

Fantastic quality

Madewell is not made well

Madewell is not made well. I ordered a pair of shoes and 3 pair of earrings. When I got a pair of earrings they were broken. When I got the shoes I got 2 left feet! Of course I sent them back for exchanges, but the return time is ridiculous. They earrings were out, and I would not get them, and the shoes which I ordered in November, I would not get until March!I will NEVER EVER order from again.

I love shopping at Madewell but that’s going to be an issue now that I’m not going to be shopping online with them any more. They are sneaky and will keep your money when they cancel an order on you. I ordered two sweaters in October or November 2025. By December 4th I had requested an exchange for the same thing in both but a different size. I called them on two separate occasions to see what the deal was why I haven’t even gotten a reply about them. Excuses excuses about how long it actually takes which is a ridiculous amount of time anyway. Then suddenly on January 19th I check again and now the status is “cancelled”. But guess what they didn’t do?? Issue a refund. Can you believe you have to go after them for a refund when they cancel your order??!!!! Plus one of the items IS STILL AVAILABLE ONLINE. They’re horrible.

Don't buy from Madewell if there is any possibility you might return the item

I have never placed an order with Madewell and I never will again. I returned the item and tracking shows that it was received back by them 22 days ago but they still haven't issued a refund. You can't talk to anyone - their customer service line just hangs up on you after you go through the voice prompts. I emailed them and they told me I would have my refund by today. Nothing and no response to my follow up email asking for a status update. Do they just want me to give up and let them keep my money? I expected more from this company. Makes me feel like other brands owned by the parent company are no longer reputable.

Lousy tailoring

I bought my first pair of Madewell jeans. They were a little bit long. I have a 32 inch in sea and I think they were probably a 34. I went in and they measured it. I like my jeans just a little bit long. I get them back and now they’re too short. I feel embarrassed when I wear them. I hate short jeans. There’s no way to let them down because they hemmed them. So now I have a pair of jeans that I’m uncomfortable wearing, because they made them too short.

Ridiculous online return process

Madewell online returns are an ordeal. I returned two orders with multiple items. They did process the returns the day after they were received at the warehouse, but they only processed one item in each order. Which is shady and half-*ssed.

I contacted customer service about these two items. Kai R. manually processed the other item from the first order, and I already got the refund notice. Which is great. But Reneisha W. told me to wait for another three weeks and it didn't even cross their mind to manually process the other two items.

The return that Reneisha W. refused to process had three items, and only the cheapest item has been processed so far. This is truly a bad look for Madewell and I've lost a lot of trust in them, both for quality clothes and customer service.

Very bad quality for the price

Very bad quality for the price, seams look like shein clothes. Dress cost me 200 but will probably last 2-3 month. Also quality looks cheaper than in their fotos on the website. Shipping took longer than expected. Dont buy there. Its china made stuff line cheap brands

Unwilling To Accept Responsibility For and Correct Their Mistakes

I ordered a size 10 floral midi dress EXPEDITED on October 1st. On Monday, the 6th, I received a package from Madewell that contained a size 00 denim mini dress. It wasn't even close to what I ordered. I called and spoke with an agent and was told I had to re-order, pay again, and that overnight shipping would be waived. The agent entered the order and my card was charged. I was told the order would be here Tuesday. Today is Wednesday. I just checked tracking and it was sent UPS Ground to arrive on Friday which is too late.

There is a reason I ordered and paid for expedited shipping. I needed to be sure it fit, match shoes, accessories, nails, etc. and have time to find an alternative if it did not fit. I did NOT expect Madewell to send the wrong item altogether. The absolute very least thing Madewell could have done to fix what was entirely their mistake would have been to overnight the correct item without requiring me to pay again for a dress I already paid for. The second best thing would have been to overnight my new order as promised. The third best thing would have been to at least expedite the order as I had done when I placed it. Instead, Madewell gave me a chore I didn't ask for (returning the incorrect item) and charged me to fix their mistake and then didn't even uphold their end of the bargain. I had actually packaged and dropped the incorrect item at the post office before they shipped out the correct item which will now arrive too late.

Madewell sucks

Madewell sucks. I used to love them and their clothes but after a horrible experience with their customer service, I’m never buying from them again.

Let me tell you what happened. I purchased a polo on sale and after waiting past the delivery date, they sent me a long sleeve shirt. I asked for the right product to be sent and they gave me a gift card. The problem was that the polo was not on sale anymore by the time I received the wrong item and requested the return. They said they would honor the price of the polo since they sent the wrong item. That was a lie. They gave me a gift card for that amount then charged me the difference without telling me.

I didn’t like the polo and returned it. Again, I got a gift card. I used that to buy a jacket. The jacket never arrived. When I filed a claim, they tried to give me another gift card for LESS MONEY THAN I ORIGINALLY SPENT WITH THEM.

Stay away. Their customer service is awful and they will just put you in the runaround and steal your money.

Shady GiftCard purchases

Purchased a e-gift card thru their website thinking it’s easy and there’s not middle man. The giftcard took ONE WEEK to arrive via email to the recipient. Not only that but I made multiple attempts via chat and email to connect with the company inquiring about the gift and nobody could answer the questions. Now after we it’s been delivered, I was charged TWICE for the card, a significant amount affecting my rent payments. I loved madewell, but their costumer service is so terrible and fishy I regret the purchase of a gift card, I feel I’ve doomed someone else to their terrible service.

Horrible

Placed an order for 3 men’s sweaters for my husbands birthday. Received 3 women’s jeans. I was told that I would need to return their mistake and I would get a refund in a month. Oh and I would need to reorder my original items IF they’re still available. No thanks. They lost me as a customer.
