I highly discourage anyone thinking about signing up for this subscription!
They only handle things over emails according to their phone recordings.

This a scam business. They take money without authorisation and do not respond to emails. Even cancelling your account doesn't stop them. Have handed the matter over to my bank's fraud unit.

Scam - sneakily charge account and grey out cancel account details

Appalling - tried to cancel on numerous occasions and for the ‘cancel account’ button to be anywhere in sight. I go into card details and they’re not there (I deleted them last year after their automatic payment system took money from my account without any warning). I assume they are still deleted. I even followed it up with an email saying you are not authorised to take funds again. Now they’ve took £153 from my account. I call this theft. Software crashes every two mins and you cannot take your work with you in an editable manner so not worth using. Not user friendly. It’s a money making scam

Crashes before opening anything

Can't even begin designing anything. The tab crashes every single time I try to use it. Whether it's because it's loading in too many assets or some other reason I'm not sure; but, it's hard to try out your product if it crashes every 15 seconds before you can open up a blank document.

I hate having to give them one star

I hate having to give them one star. I think I signed up accidently by clicking on something on facebook - I have no account set up with them - but they billed me for $120. I have a kid battling cancer - I can't afford the $120. Tried to call customer service - no response - they only respond to emails. Nice - really nice!

Disastrous Software

Using lucid press for essays was an absolute pain. It was practically impossible to get everything set up. Once we miraculously did, it is impossible to run smoothly, no matter the computer. It is so freaking slow that it is an absolute pain. So many glitches and crap that I do not recommend anybody to use this crap.

No notice or communication, just credit card charges

The company doesn't send a notice letting you know your renewal will be happening and your credit card will be charged $120 or a receipt once it happens. The only way to realize a program you haven't used in quite some time has charged you more money is by looking at your credit card bill. Plus, when you do get on the website to cancel, you find out you don't get a prorated refund of the rest of the funds. Educators (and anyone else) switch to Canva, it's free and user friendly.

Kudos to the Help Center

I emailed the Help Center four times for help with the Lucid Press design software as I am a novice, 76 years old and technically challenged. Morgan and Sean helped me on various occasions and went above and beyond, going the extra mile to make sure I understood the information and that they covered all the bases. They did all this with graciousness and aplomb. This to me was especially exemplary considering the fact that I was using the basic version of the software which is free and I was not a paying customer. So kudos to the owners of Lucid Press and for the stellar individuals in the Help Center. I used to work in a Help Center and know the pressures that come with dealing with multiple people who want answers immediately all day long. Your organization has a lot to teach others about customer service and respect for the customer.

Hi Beck,

Thanks for leaving your feedback. It appears that we were successfully able to refund you for your Lucidpress subscription when you reached out to cancel. You did reach out about additional charges today which were related to a different subscription with Lucidchart (not Lucidpress) so we forwarded you to the Lucidchart team who should follow up soon!

Bogus Billing - Costly Software

I tried Lucid Press in order to publish on multiple platforms. During the trial period I discovered that it was not robust enough to rival Adobe InDesign. I cancelled my trial but I was billed anyway. Lucid Press billed me $390 for a year of software. There was never an invoice or receipt sent to me. I did not locate the billing error until a much later date -- while preparing taxes. Lucid Press was unhelpful and refused to refund the error. I had not touched the software since before the trial period ended. All said, this was a $400 bogus charge and has left me with a negative opinion of the company.

* Update: I was offered a partial credit in lieu of a refund for this billing error. I determined during the trial period that this program is not suitable for my needs. A partial credit is not an acceptable solution to this $390 bill.

Hi Kacy,

We are very sorry to hear about your experience and do appreciate you bringing it up so we can look into your account closer.

You seem to have upgraded to a team account which is why the bill was higher than the normal individual subscription. We send out emails when a trial is expiring so that you know to cancel your subscription before you are billed if you wish to do so. You can also see your invoices in your account settings and configure your notifications for sending receipts.

We do know that it can be frustrating when you see a charge that you forgot about signing a subscription for! In cases like that, we do issue refunds if you reach out within a reasonable time for us to review your account. I do see that you successfully canceled your subscription on May 4, 2021, however, we do not see a cancelation or record of you reaching out to us around the original charge date of May 10 2020 when your subscription began which explains why we may have not been able to issue a refund. For the inconvenience, our team would be happy to issue a partial courtesy credit towards accessing the platform if you reach out to support@lucidpress.com.

Quickly becomes more trouble than it's worth.

User story:
I have been a paid Lucidpress user since 2019. I use it to publish a print magazine that averages about 50 pages each issue, and is published quarterly. I am the sole user of Lucidpress on my team and I use it to lay out and render PDFs of our magazine that are handed off to the printer.

Summary: Lucidpress is great for beginners but the product is not very well supported and unless your documents are very short and simple, you will find it a bear to work with very quickly. Bugs are common and support is friendly and responsive in email but bugs never seem to get fixed. With the storage fees I have to pay, I could get iDesign for $40 more and not have to deal with being a Lucidpress beta-tester on the side.

In detail: I didn't know what I was doing when I started so Ludidpress was useful at first. InDesign and other tools would've taken much longer to learn and Lucidpress allowed me to get up and running quickly. But even during my first week I quickly encountered limitations that make my projects difficult, and over time I have had to adopt an entire suite of workarounds in order to get the job done.

Performance is an issue right off the bat. If your document contains large photos, and is over 10 pages, you will be waiting sometimes for minutes for the app to respond. I contacted support and the solution I must use is to create a new document for each article in my magazine and then copy those pages into a master document that I only use to combine them all and export out of. None of the other workarounds like running incognito, or even a faster computer, seemed to work.

Then there are the countless issues and bugs that the support team can't be bothered to reproduce, so they ask you for complete steps, screenshots/recordings, sample documents, etc... Even for issues that are 100% reproducible in seconds. This is clearly a triage step to weed out complaints that people don't care enough or are too busy to do their work for them to reproduce. Frankly I am tired of being a Lucid tester on top of all my other jobs.

Even after I do all that work to prove to them that the bug exists, they never get fixed. So not only do they ask you for your valuable time to help them test their software, but then they waste that time by choosing not to fix the bugs you help them identify.

Examples of these bugs include randomly dropped images on export, a ton of text formatting issues, the random introduction or deletion of characters in large blocks of text that take proofreaders hours to find, and undocumented constraints like resizing large uploaded photos automatically without notifying the user so you have to figure it out yourself, and then break them up into multiple pieces and stitch them back together in your document. The stuff I've learned to do and now do as a matter of practice in order to get the job done is actually ridiculous when I think about it. Oh, by the way, these issues have all been reported, some of them over a year ago, and none of them have been fixed.

Recommendation: I have not used Ludidchart or any of their other products, but this seems to be a company that is finding it's way by pivoting every 6 months to something else, and as a result is struggling to support existing customers who have invested in their previous larks. If you need to quickly create a 1-3 page document you probably won't have much trouble with Lucidpress. I get the impression that I am in the top tier of their users in terms of what I'm trying to do with the product, so I am just accepting that I am going to be breaking stuff and pay a tax for pushing the limits of the software. But as soon as I am able to spend time learning InDesign, I am going to happily jump ship before they abandon me first. As a result I will get a whole bunch of time back, and save myself the stress and anxiety created by not knowing what random error or anomaly Lucidpress is going to inject into my already stressful process.

I had an issue with a payment

I had an issue with a payment. It got applied to an account I didn’t use & not to my primary account. While I hate only electronic customer support I was BLESSED to get Morgan and he was incredibly knowledgeable and professional. He was able to move my payment to my primary account along with my pictures and previously created documents. He was incredibly responsive and never made me feel my questions were “crazy” or unreasonable. He was an absolute JOY to work with.

Good software, poor communication

I think the software is good and intuitive, but their charging and lack of communication is poor. I've just had an email saying my 'subscription had been changed' (it had actually doubled, and they were already seeking payment for a subscription that renews in November 2021), but without any further explanation. The only explanation I found was in one of their responses to a bad review on this site! Not great, Lucidpress. You're letting down a good product with poor customer service and communication.

Billing without notification & No response when request for Refund

I have requested a refund on the subscription that I had to cancel before the trial expires. But, still, the auto-billing still happens.

I had sent 2 requests for a refund to the support team

End up with a subscription had expired email notification.

The best part now is I don't receive any refund for the canceled subscription.

and no one from the support team is responding to my emails.

It's very frustrating & disappointing

Is Lucipress a legitimate website or a total scam?

Shady business by LucidPress, don’t recommend

I only used LucidPress to do one project and I was sure I cancelled it, but since using it I have been charged over and over again without any email notification and only received one when I had no more money in my account. Not informing me when I was paying monthly since April 2019 is very scummy and I’m out a hundred dollars. It was my fault, but the fact that LucidPress only notified me once I had no more money is incredibly scummy and I will not recommend the service it to anyone know. Every subscription service and phone plan I know always notified me and the fact LucidPress didn’t and the fact the prices more than tripled is incredibly shady to the consumer.

So I just received an email that my subscription pricing is going up by more than 50%. Tell me a little more about that would you? As a 4 year customer, I'm anxious to hear why.
