It's Now A Shambles!!

Was a member of Lovefilm for years and was quite happy with their service; that was until Amazon took over and it is now a money-grabbing shambles of a system! If you want to contact them, it is practically impossible unless you want to speak to a call-centre in India (or wherever). I've had several run-ins with these jokers over a period of two months, with the upshot of me cancelling our subscription.
If you enjoy films but don't enjoy hassle, look elsewhere. You've been warned!

Rubbish service since Amazon took over.

I have been a member of Lovefilm for more years than I can remember and when the odd thing went wrong, lovefilm put it right. Since Amazon took over, getting them to correct a very basic issue is like torture. You can only use a very limited number of situations pre built into their site, eg disk faulty. But If your issue is not one of them, It's difficult to contact them. I eventually found a way, it's stated "press here to call you". On doing this, I got automated service that said no one was available. Amazon state they want to give you a most customer centric experience, however I would suggest it is an anti-customer centric experience. I have given up and I now will be leaving them. I really hope lovefilm goes bankrupt, they will deserve it as they are treating all its customers like we do not matter. Hooray for Netflix who were very good on the phone.

Confused

I had been pretty happy with LF by post. I have the most basic membership, just 3 films per month on Blu Ray. However, I have just received 3 Days To Kill and they have sent me this film before! Why would they do this? How did they do this? So many questions. Another issue is some discs were faulty and would pixelate and stop and I would have to give them a good wash and polish as it looked like I child had been using them as a coaster. This sometimes worked and sometimes not. So I took the plunge and bought a new Blu Ray player, a top of the range Sony thinking my ancient BD player might be a problem. This includes a link to Amazon Unlimited Video but I thought so what, it won't work because I only get 1.8mbps and even YouTube won't stream! But I was WRONG. For some reason Amazon Unlimited works perfectly and I cannot explain why, it just does. So I will cancel LF by post, use my Prime membership and hope that it keeps working. Sony BDP S7200, awesome bit of kit.

Amazons acquisition has increased descent of already poor company.

I've been a LoveFilm member for 5 years and now more than ever I'm considering my subscription.

Back before LoveFilm got acquired by Amazon, I received relatively decent service and I was pretty satisfied with the selection of movies on offer. After LF offloaded their games service, the reputability of the company slowly began to wane. Since Amazon have taken over, I've never been more disappointed with it.

Movies that were released months ago are still waiting to enter circulation. At one point, my reserve list was bigger than the actual rental list!

I don't get it. Amazon are humongous. Out of every commerce company, bricks & mortar or otherwise, they have the hugest say in media distribution. So why oh why are we having to wait months for new releases? Yeah, I get it, there could be a dispute with the studio yadda yadda, but we seldom got this problem on old LoveFilm.

Hell, even Blockbuster were on the ball.

I'm really annoyed. If this carries on any longer than they're not getting my hard earned money (as if they'd notice).

Come on Amazon, you're the only company in the UK to offer a movie-by-post service on this scale. Think of all that extra money to power your rechargeable drone batteries. I personally enjoy the tradition of sitting at home with my wife and sticking on a good film and not have to worry about bandwidth usage. It's a tradition we all aspire to keeping up in this economy. At least up your game a little (your prime service doesn't look so cracking either).

Diabolical Service

I have been with Lovefilm for many years and lately I have experienced various issues with their delivery service as follows:

-scratched discs - to the point of being virtually unplayable
-sending discs a 5 days after previous discs have returned
- personally not receiving the discs at all
-if I do receive them they were not on my priority list
etc

I don't know why Lovefilm continue to offer a bad service knowing full well that eventually customers will sooner or later leave. I am seriously considering doing so myself.
I joined Lovefilm because they seemed to offer films that were not only blockbusters but rare and interesting films before Amazon took over but unfortunately what was a fairly good service is now deteriorating beyond recognition.
Hope they take note because this is unacceptable.

Amazon are theives!

Amazon are stealing my money! With Lovefim (postal), if I needed to go on holiday, I could suspend my account for a nominal fee to keep my lists open. Now, if I am on holiday and cannot use the disks, they still charge me the full price. So, on the basis they are charging me for a service I cannot use, I call that theft!

I ma tempted to refer them to trading standards for theft.

There is no point replying that I can cancel my account and then open a new one, as their dumb call assistant said, as I would then have to rebuild my entire list!

This is a backward step and shows no care for their customer.

Oh, and the new website is awful - can't find anything easily.

Awful Customer Service from Amazon

Quite frankly they don't want you using the Blu Ray by post business model but would rather you use their Amazon Prime offering.

I don't want to stream films as the internet is so bad and it's poor quality but the postal service has been degraded by Amazon.

To be fair Lovefilm had a Universal dispute that caused problems but now they seem to have issues with a number of films.

They can offer the films to buy but not rent and i'm waiting up to a year to see some films. Not only that but I can't even reserve them (so when they are available they go onto my list). Instead I am forced to make some notes and keep checking periodically, so ridiculous it can only be by design.

Downhill

I've been a Lovefilm customer for many many years and have never seen its service in such bad shape as this year. Granted, when Amazon took over, it seemed like a good deal: keeping the DVD rental and getting streaming for a little extra. Now it looks like they want us to abandon DVDs altogether such is the waiting time - and you have to pay extra to watch most decent movies online. I used to post DVDs on one week day and get a replacement two days later. Now it's double as much. There seems to be no service at all on weekends. If you're still deciding my advice is stay away from Amazon.

Awful Company, Awful Customer Service

I've just got off the phone to amazon/lovefilm customer service after realising my subscription fee had doubled (without warning). The poor woman on the phone had way too much information to try and give me and ended up confusing herself. End result was I found out I cannot change my subscription (I was signed up to unlimited, with 2 discs at a time) to get it cheaper, the only way is to sign up for amazon instant video and I'd get £2 off my lovefilm account (still £2 more than I was paying). There was no offer of a refund on the 2 months that I'd paid double for and I'm left having to cancel the account. The reason we use lovefilm is the download speed available in our area is poor and so paying for a streaming service would be pointless.

Hopeless

Like most people on this site, used to love Lovefilm. But since it has gone amazon it not so much has gone downhill as plummetted down a cliff.

It's pretty clear that Amazons reason for buying lovefilm was to take out the competition to force people onto its Prime service.

As with most of the reviews I've read - I think I'll be stopping this month.

a once good company destroyed

Before amazon took over I loved lovefilm and never had any problems, however since the move I've not only had countless blu rays that just won't play but my subscription has been increased from 4.99 to 7.99 without my knowledge (I only found out when I logged into my online banking) and to top it off there is now no way to change your subscription package, absolutely appalling!

poor service now

been with them for years but recently and twice on the trot i have had two blu-ray dvds block and freeze even though i clean them before using as most of love films dvd appear to be smothered in fingerprints and more on arrival, they send a free one out if you complain but the night has been ruined by getting half way through a film and thats it, i'm not paying for streaming (and thats got its downfalls too) as only wanting two dvds per month

They love taking people's money!

I am really dissapointed with Lovefilm! they charged me £4.99 every month and I hadn't used the service since 2011. I recieved no emails to say that the account is being used. Probably my fault for not keeping an eye on my account but they wouldnt refund for the months where I was not using the service.
I would have been a returning customer but netflix seems to be a better option. I was not pursuaded to stay as a customer neither was I offered an alternative deal.

Amazon is killing Lovefilm!

I adored Lovefilm and since Amazon took over they are set to destroy it. The interface, which used to be very user-friendly, is now a nightmare and Amazon tried to sneak in the payment for Amazon Prime as well as deleting the option of taking a holiday while providing no compensation for people like me who had paid one year in advance.
Now they have communicated to me that they will be offering me 2 DVDs at home instead of 3 DVDs that I had before for a 10% increase in price!!
They must be kidding!!
I am switching to Cinema Paradiso.

What happened to Lovefilm

The core of Lovefilm was beautiful simplicity. You could select a title, prioritize it, and feel relatively confident that it would end up in your mailbox before the weekend so you could view it. And once you have viewed it, you could log on to an easy to use site that allowed you to select your next favorite movie and review the previous, and then you could mail your movie back on Monday morning and let the process happen all over again. All very straightforward and I watched literally hundreds of movies that way. When Amazon took it over, however, all of the whiz bang gadgetry of trying to make movies stream to TVs has somehow sent the company on a course of making the whole experience complex and difficult to use. The only reason I stayed with Lovefilm so long is that they let me have 3 at home titles. That just changed: they are phasing that option out for the 2 at home titles for a higher price. This makes my last month.

Was All right until Amazon came along

Being a very happy customer of lovefilm I was enjoying the large library of movies to stream and to rent when the slow switch over to Amazon started well……the first was Game rentals that went I can live with that I said and continued a little fed up then the switch over………the first moan was the complex of what was once a very easy site to use….then the movie library of films you could watch free declined there is now more newish films you can rent for an added charge than there is to watch as part of your subscription and now…..they are upping my subscription charge from £4 per month to £7.99 a month I am now cancelling as can’t take any more and moved to Netflix.

I'm fed up with Amazon trying to take over the world

I am quite happy to pay a fair price for a fair service. Lovefilm was a great service at a fair price. Then big bruiser Amazon walked in and made them an offer they couldn't refuse, and is systematically trying to take over the world as it reduces what it offers its customers for the money it takes.

- Amazon buys Lovefilm
- Lovefilm offers online streaming of video
- Amazon renames the online portion of Lovefilm 'Amazon Prime' and reduces the available content significantly, but makes the online portion "free" to amazon prime customers.

If you opt out of amazon Prime at any time (for example, if streamed content was nowhere near as good, and the quality of streaming much worse than say Netflix, or if you wanted your parcel delivered to your hands rather than an Amazon Logistics courier putting it in your recycling box. Even though you were there in the house, the bell didn't even ring), your monthly payments will increase by 100%, unless you become an amazon prime customer.

I am getting tired of Amazon's tricks. Having enjoyed Amazon as a business which delivered at a good price in a good time, I now see them as something of a corporate bully, and I have had enough. It's time to pay a fair price for a fair service.

If you want high quality video on demand (which is why I paid for Blu-ray Discs from Lovefilm) ditch Lovefilm and head over to Netflix. Their streaming service is very good, and the more people uptake, the better the content will be.

The age of buying media is over. We want to stream, and we want to stream high quality 1080p and up to 4K. As bandwidth increases across the board, this will become a reality. In the meantime, where is your streaming money going?

brilliant service..

I reviewed a while ago saying " so far so good"..... It's not changed, I've had no problems with the disc's, any series that I order the disc's are sent in order, I moved one rental to high priority & got soon as next ones were dispatched to me. I posted my last discs back yesterday & today got email telling me next ones on there way!... On average I watching 2 disc's weekly... Very happy with LoveFilmByPost.. 😁

Pay more, get less!

You already know this will be a bad review, because it's for Lovefilm under the control of Amazon.

As many others have already stated, Lovefilm used to be plenty good enough... therein lies the problem for Amazon.
When they took over the first thing they did was to stop rental games for consoles. This was one of the main reasons I joined Lovefilm in the first place. Soon after, they destroyed the easy to use website and started to slow down the speed with which they dispatched discs.
Dealing with their other worldly customer service is a nightmare... my email exchange with them involved several diffrent people who didn't seem to have a clue what was going on, forcing me to repeat myself over what was a simple price request that can't be found on their website.
Knocking off the service stars pretty quick eh?

Most recently, I decided to reduce how much i was paying by reducing the number of discs i can have at home. Not an easy process, they won't let you edit your subscription, you have to cancel and start a new one... And to top it off, it would cost MORE!!
I currently pay £7.28pm for 3 discs at home, but have been told that a 2 disc plan will cost me £7.99pm
Disgusting!

I shall of course be writing the the uk CEO of amazon to see what one of his lackeys (pretty sure it won't be him, IF i get an answer) has to say about it.
