Lightspeed blocks almost every single website which makes it harder to find decently enjoyable things to do once I'm done with my work.
One example of a blocked website is "gdbrowser", which is a website that allows you to browse Geometry Dash but not actually play any levels. You can't play any levels, so there's no reason to block it. I tend to use gdbrowser to test Lightspeed bypasses since it loads a handful of resources and there's a lot of page switching involved.

Lightspeed's website claims that it "puts an end to bypass prevention," but I've spent a few days decompiling its code and they do the absolute bare minimum for bypass prevention (check if the URL contains data:, extprint3r, or Blobby-Boi, as well as removing any bookmarks/tabs that point to javascript: or specific Lightspeed extension URLs). These bypass prevention checks can simply be circumvented by adding, modifying, or deleting an extra line or two of code from your bypass website. Also, the filter is heavily prone to slowdowns and hangs, since its worker code has to manually do the filtering itself (via the webRequest API).

It only seems that Lightspeed is really secure because ChromeOS carries the security for Lightspeed.

Despite ChromeOS's somewhat decent security, I've already found 2 methods to disable Lightspeed: one that fully hard-disables Classroom and Alert, and one that fully disables the filter. I also plan on reviving LightSPED Killer Agent for more newer ChromeOS devices.

The fact that I even have to spend days investigating a way to bypass the filter just to access basic websites should tell you something about Lightspeed (and realistically every other filtering extension).

They literally said on one of their websites (of which is blocked because they do not want people finding workarounds) that malware isn't the issue, its kids bypassing the filter. That's like saying "The virus about to destroy your entire organisation isn't the problem, a bored 14 year old is." Like come on.

it is borderline malware it doesn't just install on the chromebook for school but all chrome apps if you sign in to the account that has the lightspeed extension it forse installed on your own device like the tracker on it and when I tried force deleting it on my own laptop and it gives the error "not admin" when I am the admin I had to format my whole laptop and it was given web cam access at my own home this is horrible

This is nothing more than spyware whitewashed and renamed under the cover of a filter. Like NO filter needs teachers to CONSTANTLY look at your screen, which is already a breach of privacy. Not to mention, people have seen sites getting blocked for "being a distraction", but that "distraction" is sometimes school appropriate or even contributes to student learning.

i was in class on my computer on Chess.com and the teacher calls my name and says "so you winning" that might have been the fastest time i closed a tab. Two weeks after i had the Dino game (online) open from another day, i was playing chess and a notification appeared saying "{teachers name} has closed one of your tabs" but the chess was still there i looked at my recent tab and there it was the dino game closed 45 seconds ago.

This is a terrible app. It blocks all the good websites and blocked me for typing "uwu" into Google and when an unblocked website comes up it gets blocked within 3 days. Dont use this app ever.

I’m a 9th grader, and my county literally just updated to the newest version of Lightspeed. It is the most annoying thing ever. Every time someone in my class finds a new proxy or a "unblocked" site to actually have some freedom, Lightspeed blocks it within like a day.

It’s like the software is actually smart and stays ahead of us. We used to use Google Sites or certain mirrors to get around the filters, but now it’s like it detects the "behavior" of the site and shuts it down before the page even loads. It’s super frustrating because it doesn't just block the fun stuff—it blocks actual research sites and images I need for projects. It feels like we're being treated like little kids. If you’re a student, you already know the struggle. This filter is way too overpowered.

This company is so evil wdym I can't view random images that are harmless I can't even go to some educational websites because there catagorised as games like blud they arn't even gamessss. I also have no privacy to ts is so bad would definintely not recommend.

Dude this thing sucks. Literally. This is pure shit. I can't even view images without seeing this horrible blocked placeholder svg. Their customer service is also horrible, as it is only an AI chatbot, and refuses to contact me with a real human. Not to say, they block legitimate sites. To any sysadmin looking to get this, don't. It's a horrible waste of money, and I hope these scummy owners fix their cesspool of a "product".

Lightspeed is actually terrible. I have personally viewed the source code , and let me tell you, it is EVIL. Here is a comprehensive list:
Google email, literally your ip address, your screen, tab names, browsing history, current tab url, wifi network name, search queries, files downloaded, time spent on sites, network configuration (which might include your password), bookmarks, PLAIN TEXT data being sent, and probably more.

they see everything on your school device
you have no privacy
they somehow fail to block unsafe things
they block educational youtube videos and websites
they can LIMIT TABS WHATS THE POINT IN LIMITING TABS ITS NOT GONNA STOP ANYONE FROM PLAYING COOKIE CLICKER
if your gonna block stuff and restrict things on school computers then do it right

It has never once helped me EVER. It constantly gets in the way of learning which includes blocking sources, videos, images, and more which makes it harder to do basic digital work. And the school can put websites on a custom block list and this has happened to so many websites that made me not feel board, but they got blocked all because about 7 kids were playing games instead of working. Oh and they can remotely brick a computer at any time. I don't have any privacy because they can see your screen and it doesn't even have the decency to alert you, in fact I'm writing this while in math so hopefully my teacher doesn't see this. AND HOW IS IT LEGAL FOR THERE TO BE A DEVICE LOCATION TRACKER, like if a teacher were to be a pedophile or something they could just hack in. And its designed to not be bypassable, like I can end programs in task manager yet not lightspeed. I feel like it may be affecting my computer literacy because there are barely any applications I can download and parts of the OS are not accessible. I just don't feel like sharing my true thoughts on school devices because the school will punish you for things only YOU could see, its just created an artificial me. And it doesn't even do its job, many educational videos are blocked yet one of my friends told me that someone told him about an unblocked site that had porn and that when he check it out it did in fact have porn. And already I know that adults are going to call me a dramatic teen that doesn't understand, but how would you like it if the government forced you to have it at the OS level against your will, you would be furious but we kids are just seen as dramatic even though we have to go through this 5 days a week. Plus it stores Data that can be breached by hackers. And my parents actually trust me with unfiltered internet access but it doesn't matter if you need restrictions or not, you get them anyways. BTW for y'all's wondering I'm 11 (Gonna be 12 in a few months)

tell me why they blocked videos on MAKING STICKERS, TEAMWORK, ART, AND A STRAY CAT, BUT NOT GORE???? like hello???? block things that are actually bad and not useless little cute things that make 'students distracted' and things that actually offers more learning than teachers do. literally every good thing always get blocked even YouTube. like they haven't blocked enough stuff from there. also just the thought of teachers spying on students makes my skin crawl, like that's weird, and I don't wanna have someone spying on what I like to do. also it just makes my computer very laggy and sometimes I can't even open a tab without restarting the computer or closing and opening it again. overall, even though sometimes students do get off track, just don't block dumb things and spy on students, unless the students give consents because adults need to respect a student's privacy and lightspeed is not doing that.

This, doesn't really, "help us learn and get less distracted." It actually just cripples our free time (whenever we get the chance). It blocks ANYTHING we can gameplay, even school APPROPRIATE games, and educational ones, like chess.com. THIS SUCKS. PERIOD.

It sends weekly email reports to your parents, monitors keystrokes, logs any websites visited, blocks some sites randomly. its bad.

This application is actually spyware on KIDS.One data leak and it’s over.

They literally do not care about students... They banned lichess and mathisfun.org, but kept chess.com up, when its a piece of hot garbage? This is a shit experience, and I never want to see it again

I get its a school-mandated device, but still complete breach of privacy. I almost got suspended for searching up "cool math games"
