We are located in London and cover a wide surrounding area. We have over 20 years experience in our field and we are RICS accredited which means we adhere to strict operating procedures. All our surveyors are fully qualified and insured. We offer homebuyers surveys (level 2), full structural/building surveys (level 3), present market valuations and general advice and help with your property needs. We also offer a service for extensions and planning/drainage etc as we have architects and structural engineers on our team.

Nasty, aggressive and dishonest. Awful company.

I wish I had read some of the one star reviews before I appointed this firm, instead of relying on their overall rating.

There were a number of errors in their report and subsequent correspondence. For example, a conventional boiler was described by Denise as a combi boiler. As this was important to me I queried this with them twice and both times they confirmed their original conclusion.

After moving I discovered they were wrong, leaving me over £1,000 out of pocket. As soon as I complained they turned nasty and aggressive, they blatently lied in an attempt to undermine my complaint and hid behind the small print.

Eventually, after I threatened to go to the Ombudsman they did offer £200 compensation, but I am still £1,000 out of pocket.

Avoid!

Fantastic Service

Denise was really helpful throughout the entire process of surveying, which for me as a first time buyer was really appreciated! She was thorough and prompt and I couldn't be happier with the service that Laurence Quilter provided.

I'm a bit shocked to see bad feedback…

I'm a bit shocked to see bad feedback as my experience was much different to the 1-star reviews.

I had my survey booked within 3 days of instruction and received my report back after 6 working days.

The survey report highlighted defects in the kitchen that weren't seen by myself or my partner.

This helped us negotiate further with the seller.

I am leaving this review as my experience was pleasant and I was happy with the treatment of friendly staff.

Would recommend and use again.

A smooth and efficient service

A family member recommended LQ to me and I am so happy with their services. The booking process was smooth and efficient. The surveyor produced a thorough report and was on hand to answer a few questions I had. They made my property purchase easier and went above and beyond my expectations. I would thoroughly recommend LQ.

Not what it used to be

I had used LQ in the past and they were very helpful. This time around, they did not cover themselves in glory on the survey itself nor with the customer service following my complaint. The survey was 50% boilerplate text 20% flat-out errors (stating a timber conservatory was built in UPVc) 30% excuses for their laziness. After pointing out my discontent on several specific points and several weeks of back and forth, I was still receiving answers to questions I never asked to deflect answering my actual question about the mistakes they had made. I am not taking this up directly to RICS as LQ failed on several points of the rules of conduct of the governing body and failed to recognize that. Since this review was first posted. LQ went on to accuse me of having produced fake Google reviews. I don't have words for that kind of customer service.

In November of 2022 Laurence quilter…

In November of 2022 Laurence quilter surveyed a flat that I ended up buying, and
I’m not the type that gives 1 stars, but like other one star reviews here, I’ll repeat the message, you’ve been warned!

They started out professional, but when huge negligence was pointed out, they turned nasty immediately. I lost 4,500 as a result of hiring this company. Highly recommend anyone else!

Extremely disappointed by this surveyor

Extremely disappointed by this surveyor. The home buyers report we received missed multiple serious issues with the property that have left us significantly out of pocket. The surveyor didn't inspect one of the bed rooms, (supposedly didn't want to disturb the sellers), but this resulted in them missing severe damp (as well as leaks, roof problems, structural and electrical issues). Making a complaint and receiving correspondence from them has since been extremely difficult - it seems they have been deliberately obstructive. Thoroughly discourage anyone from using their services.

It is unfortunate that you have felt the need to post this across a number of review platforms as it creates a negative perception of our business practices.

Since you have made your grievances public, we feel compelled to address the following:

- In our terms and conditions we make clear the obstructions that can prevent a survey from being undertaken to its’ full extent. We cannot be expected to remove individuals, (especially children who are asleep, a factor which you have purposely chosen not to mention).


Even so, the room in question had no damp detected at the time of inspection, and was inspected adequately, as evidenced by photos previously provided to you.


- All issues mentioned in your complaints were addressed thoroughly by the surveyor. As a reminder, the surveyor can only comment on defects as seen using non-invasive methods of inspection, as per RICS guidelines.



Regarding the electrical issues, you were advised to consult a relevant specialist.

 Again, as per our terms and conditions the cursory checks of electronics are stated as we are not specialists in electronics.



As a survey is provided to you prior to exchange, you are intended to take the advice given to you in the report before the purchase is made.

- After investigation was conducted internally on receipt of your complaint, we concluded that due diligence was undertaken throughout the surveying process. 

As per our complaints handling procedure, after no agreement was met between both parties, you were provided with the details of our independent redress provider with no resistance.


- It is unfortunate that based on this turn of events you have found us to be obstructive, as we have done all we could possible to address your concerns fairly and amicably. 



We pride ourselves on great customer service so this would be the last outcome we would hope for. 



We cannot however be held to ransom by clients pursuing compensation after failing to pursue the advice given to them in the survey, more than one year after the inspection has been conducted and after numerous seasonal changes, while failing to accept that their listed defects were not detectable at the time of inspection, even upon receipt of photographic evidence.



We wish you the best with the necessary repairs of your property and await the outcome of your claim via our independent redress provider.

Quick and effective report

We were recommended LQ by our estate agent and they got us our report within a week, sending on the same day afternoon as payment. Report was very helpful and thorough, with a useful section for passing on to solicitors. Would definitely use LQ again

Good and professional service with reasonable cost

I found Laurence Quitler info from internet search. They were quick to get in touch and provided honest feedback about the survey required. Denise who conducted the survey was very detailed with the findings and recommendations. I really liked their professional service and quick service. I recommend anyone who is looking for reasonable yet through survey while purchasing any property.

WARNING AVOID LQ

WARNING AVOID LQ. Read reviews on different sites such as google reviews etc, I wish we had. LQ is completely incompetent, our survey was completed by a RICS associate, took a long time to deliver and failed to highlight the full extent of damages, despite us informing them of our concerns, they provided no assurance, no pictures were taken of the loft, lies were told and false claims were made regarding the serviceable life of the roof. A lot of copy and paste. The report appeared nothing like the sample report provided. Due to our concerns, we were forced to get a 2nd Level 3 survey, the difference in valuation between LQ and the new survey was £30k mostly due to the roof reaching the end of its serviceable life and a number of other issues they failed to identify. LQ did refunded us about half the amount we paid, but this was after going back and forth for over a month, threatening to inform the regulator. AVOID.

Dear Sheli, our report stated, "Roof and chimney condition to be checked at high level & internally. Instruct a roofer to view the roof internally as plasterboard panels have been placed within the roof space, we are unsure of the purpose of this other than to assume that previous water leaks have been an issue". This clearly shows that the roof space was inspected. The report also stated "The roof tiles are showing signs of age and we expect will be coming to the end of their serviceable life within the next 5-7 years. We would request that you arrange for a roofer to inspect the roof coverings at height to get their opinion". You clearly ignored the advice given which makes us wonder why you instructed a survey in the first place. We did ask you for a copy of the "second survey" which you never produced. You state " a number of other issues they failed to identify". This is false and your review is defamatory. We have reprimanded the surveyor for the refund issued to you as in our opinion this should not have happened. Our surveyor conducted a thorough inspection and produced a robust and honest survey. We wish you all the best in your new property.

Know what they are doing

Communication was fast, the inspection was booked quickly and I was made to understand in full detail what the survey meant regarding a defect in a certain area of my property. The surveyor in question was an enthusiastic gentleman. 5/5
