Don't trust a good name!
Needing a new gas oven we decided to buy from John Lewis, as a trusted name which we felt that we could rely on, As JL did not have the oven in stock, we decided not to use others who did have stock, and were quoting a next day delivery. We are having other work done including new carpets and would have preferred to have the oven before they were fitted, but well, it was JL, and we could rely on them!
Eventually the oven came into stock, we ordered, paid, and a delivery date was given after the carpet fitting date, but it was JL and we could rely on them!
They promised a phone call half an hour before arriving, which sure enough transpired, it was JL we could rely on them!
When the fitters arrived they seemed surprised that it was not a free standing cooker they were collecting, though the new oven was built in, and one would expect like for like. The also commented that the old oven had not been disconnected, though my understanding is that it is illegal for anyone other than a Gas Approved individual to work on gas appliances and supply. It was apparent from their demeanour that they were not keen on the job. But still it was JL and we could rely on them!
After a few minutes they announced that they could not fit the new oven as the supply was "lead piping" (their words), and they did not have any fittings to connect the oven. They then spent longer filling in the failure form than the attempted fitting, and duly left.
I have cancelled the oven from them, and will never ever countenance the purchase of anything from them ever again. What makes this worse is that we have now got an old cooker to remove, and take over our new and expensive carpets, which could have been avoided if we had not trusted John Lewis.
NO customer service just rude and unhelpful
I always thought John Lewis was known for excellent customer service but more recently its definately changed. My recent experience with John Lewis was just plain rudeness and unhelpfulness from their staff. I can honestly say I have never experienced rudeness like it before and I know I will no longer be shopping with them.
Love the company - shame about the coffee and cake scheme
It seemed too good to be true when JL introduced their free coffee and cakes tokens earlier this year. However, after the first set of tokens, I had to chase JL for the next batch, which took 3 phone calls (the first call assured me I would receive them within seven days, and the second told me that this was not correct information and I should never have been told to expect them so quickly!). They were not back dated so I missed out on token for the period they were delayed. When my wife received her next tokens in September, I again received nothing. Again called JL. They told me that I had not received any tokens because I had not used my loyalty card recently. This could not be the only reason I didn't receive new tokens, as neither my wife, nor my daughter have ever used their loyalty card when paying for goods in JL and they both received additional tokens.
I appreciate that JL had many times more applications than had been anticipated, but having a loyalty scheme which, at least for me, has failed, just leaves this long term loyal customer of 40 years feeling irritated. Now every time I have to pay for my coffee and cake in JL, instead of a noce warm glow, I feel a little disgruntled that as well as never getting my free treat, I have to pay prices that have gone up way above what one might reasonably expect in less than a year, and with the double whammy of smaller cakes and in my local Cheadle branch, must less variety of choice.
I tried sending a complaint about the smaller portions and price hikes (presumably to compensated for the oversubscribed scheme) but it is only possible to complain to a local store, and this was not a local issue. When I asked how I could contact someone in head office, I was told this was not possible. I am left disappointed and I know I am not alone, because a friendly JL assistant said my story was all too common.

We will visit no more
Having had a bad experience with a dishwasher John Lewis were keen to get me back as a customer. In March 2013 I purchased a very nice Samsung TV. In the last few months it started to turn itself off. In the last week it started to turn itself on. Not withstanding ghosts we contacted John Lewis. Normal customer service who were helpful and said they would send someone out. Couldn't give a time just a time slot. Engineer came several days later and said: "Yes it is turning it self on and it is turning itself off". He couldn't take it away as it was not John Lewis policy to allow him to do this. He would have to report back. Didn't hear anything from them so I rang. They stated they would have to send an engineer out to take it to the workshop. It would be gone for 28 days and as I had another TV in the house they would not leave a replacement. No matter what I said the customer service repeated That's our policy. I asked why the first engineer couldn't take it away. That's our policy. I asked why I couldn't have another TV. That's our policy. I asked why it would take 28 days. She replied, that's our policy. SO next time I want any product the last place I will be going is John Lewis. It is not that I don't expect things might go wrong but I do at least hope that they believe me when I tell them the fault and that they don't have policies that are more suited to them than customer service.
TerribLe service by made to measure curtains in Peter Jones
I started the whole ordering process in June, The first steps were ok but after they came out to measure and gave me a quote I couldn't get through to the phone number given and when I left a message nobody got back to me and so I went into the shop to make the >£1000 payment up front at the end of June/ beginning of July and was told that my curtains and blinds would take around 6 weeks!
It took much longer than 6 weeks more like 10 and when they came out they forgot the £800 roman blind, had the wrong fittings for another blind and I ended up with one out of three blinds and that one without a safety mechanism on the wire. Then the next time give the problems, I was promised that someone would be with me by 9.30 latest 10am. My partner stayed at home from work and no one showed up and there was no call to say what was happening and I couldn't get through to there office. He eventually headed into work at 10.15am and then we got calls after that to say they had come...why couldn't they simply give us a call to say they wouldn't be there by 10am/ make sure that there is someone manning the phones.
Finally this Tuesday November 4th the blinds got fitted by a lovely man (one good part of the experience). That evening the £800 roman blind BROKE! I rang left a message pleading for a speedy response. I am still waiting and so disappointed and upset about the whole process. The quality of the final product is poor, the customer service is appalling and given my prior experience how long will I now have to wait for a blind that is not broken terrifies me especially as one of the reasons for the blinds is for insulation as winter arrives
Can't believe A big company can do this?
I bought and payed for a new oven from in store. A delivery date was arranged. I booked a day off work and organised an electrician. I (stupidly) disposed my existing oven.
Nothing! Nothing at all! I'm now left without the ability to feed my two kids! How can you do this to people? The reason I payed (alot) extra was to avoid this precise situation!
Never knowingly beaten on price
Forget about their advertising and just buy elsewhere. They would not match Currys price on iPad as a code had to be input to save £20
Just go with Currys and save yourself £20.
Appalling customer service!!
I feel so disappointed with the customer service from john lewis, I have always shopped in john lewis and felt 100% sure that if I had any issues they would be dealt with quickly and efficiently. How wrong was I.
I bought a limited edition signed print on line, in the advertisement for the print it said that there were 195 signed prints, when it arrived I had purchased print 45 of 395! I contacted customer services, I was told that my issue had to be escalated and I would be contacted within 24/48 hours, this was on Tuesday, I wasn't contacted so I called again on the Friday, i was told that if I wasn't contacted by lunchtime on Saturday to call them again!! I feel really annoyed, this is a clear case of false advertising, John lewis customer service can't be bothered to call me back, I really don't know where I go from here.
Good service
Ordered a dishwasher from John Lewis online. Promptly received an email with delivery date. Was delivered on that date by friendly personnel, and old machine taken away. Very happy with the service received.
Poor click and collect service
I ordered some lamp shades online from John Lewis and was promised that they would be available from 2 pm the next day to collect from the nominated Waitrose store at Oadby. I was promised a text message to tell me that they had arrived. I didn't get the goods or the text message but I have been charged.
I have always been a faithful John Lewis customer and have not had any previous problems with staff in store or goods received but this is my first, and probably my last, experience of on-line ordering of goods from John Lewis. I wish that I had read these reviews prior to ordering because I would have shopped elsewhere if I had done this. I would still probably have ordered if I had been given a longer waiting time but it is annoying to be let down and now I will have to be further troubled in my attempt to secure a refund for the monies that have been taken from my bank account.
John Lewis and Partners you need to get your act together. See how many poor ratings you have on this site relating to delivery.

Review on Click and Collect service
Over the past few months I have used the John Lewis Click and Collect service to have items delivered to my local Waitrose six times and every time it has been excellent. The first time was for a heavy Kitchenaid Mixer and the Waitrose staff were very good about lifting it into a trolley for me for transfer to the car. They also validated my parking as I didn't buy any groceries on that occasion. Each time the staff were very courteous, and wait time varied between 5 and 20 minutes, some of that time being waiting in the queue to be served. The good thing about click and collect is that the ordered item is at Waitrose the next day for collection and there is no minimum spend. Items are well packaged. I'd advise you collect outside of busy times of day because there could be a short wait as the Customer Services desk does everything from click and collect, queries, refunds, the coffee machine and the glass lending service and this can be hectic on weekends. Perhaps an extra staff member would help as they appear to be run off their feet. You can ddo your shopping while they get your item for you. My Waitrose members can also have a free coffee while you wait.
Disappointing service
I have a voucher that entitled me £5 off for next purchase over £50 in John Lewis. Customers need to activate it before shopping, but I can't find any link online to activate it. Contacted Milton Keynes branch and received useless reply. John Lewis is not the same store I used to shop. Complicated and unfriendly procedures are causing inconvenience and nuisance to customers.
The John Lewis card is another example for poor service. Card holders have to depend on JL's mercy to receive vouchers for free tea and cake. Why can't JL set up terms of the amount spent to qualify or the free drinks? Waitrose's free drink policy is much more cleverer and friendly.
Very good experience
I found the whole experience of buying and ultimately returning a coat through their website to be very smooth. I received a prompt refund.
Best customer service from Oxford street bed department
Due to a bad experience with Bensonsforbeds I walked into several stores searching for the best mattress and advice. (Once bitten twice shy) Following excellent advice from Mariam I purchased the perfect mattress for my husband and I. It was also delivered on time with care. Thanks John Lewis bed department (Oxford street) you saved my back and made a hard working teacher very happy.
Poor web site, poor customer service
Ordered a washing machine on Sun for Wed delivery.
However took a while to log onto account and pay.
During this time the delivery day was changed by JL to the following Wed without any notification.
Be careful chosen delivery day moves ...................................
All JL said is it was my fault that I did not check e-mail they sent me on Monday with the new delivery date buried in the e-mail.
NOT HELPFUL
AVOID
After years as a faithful customer...I will never shop here again !
If you are looking at this, trying to guage whether or not John Lewis is a reputable company, then please read on....
I have been a long time customer of this shop and have spent a substantial amount of my home furnishings budget with them.
I now live in a remote part of the country on the Durham/Cumbria border so each trip to a large retailer is a long journey. Being in the market for a new TV I automatically thought of John Lewis with their price match policy. I went online to check out the terms and conditions and according to their site they do not match internet only retailers,in order to price match the quote must come from a physical shop.....fair enough I thought and went about looking for prices for the TV I had decided to buy, a Panasonic TX-42AS600B.
John Lewis's price was £549-, but I found a shop in Ashton under Lyne selling the same model for £399- and with a 7 year warranty rather than the standard 5 years.
I printed off the shops details, phone number, address and details of the TV on offer and armed with this set off to Newcastle which is my nearest John Lewis branch.
I approached a sales man at the shop and showed him the TV set I was interested in, then showed him the offer I had seen and printed off. He immediately said they would not be able to match it, so I brought up their price match policy. He took me to customer services, who also told me they would not match it ! When I pushed them to explain they got all stroppy and said the shop was on their list of shops they would not price match and tried to tell me the shop didnt exist and they were a online only supplier. I had to get them to look at the evidence I had, but even after confirming the shop does exist they would not match the price and even had the cheek to scoff and ask if I would rather drive to this other shop rather than paying their full price!?
As it happened I had also printed off details of the TV at the Panasonic shop at Doncaster selling the TV for £429-, they still insisted that this was also an online only shop and wouldnt price match.
After much discusion I was told they would only match prices from the bigger high street stores such as Currys or Argos.
In a nutshell, they could'nt have cared less that I was a loyal customer, or that I had a round trip of some 120 miles to once again give them the benefit of my loyal custom.
Suffice to say John Lewis's standards of customer service are at an all time low and I will never use them again and would advise anybody else with a misplaced sence of loyaty to do like wise.
Great service
Great service. Just received my lights for my front room and they look great. I ordered them on Sunday and they have been fitted today. Wow! Impressed.
Should have read reviews before buying.
Thought it would be a seamless shopping experience if I bought from John Lewis on line. Free delivery if I pick up from my local Waitrose. No brainer. No such luck. Rang Waitrose after 2pm (the time they said I could pick it up on the website) to see if my Bose Soundlink case had arrived for collection on day promised and all they could give me was John Lewis's customer service telephone number. 17 mins to get through and no clearer info. They said it might be delivery problems but should get there today or tomorrow. Waitrose will text me when it's arrived. Have a nice day, was how they finished the call. Not impressed.
