If I could put 0 I would
If I could put 0 I would. Do not fly them! I had four people booked. Two could not make it due to a medical emergency. They refused to help me. No refund or credit given. They literally ripped me off over one thousand dollars. Very unhappy.
Hurts Iceland’s good name
As many have said, it’s a full price airline providing discount airline service. Shocking not to provide any food on 6+ hour flights, unless you pay extra. Legroom is just enough and overall the plane feels cramped.
Rough experience flying to and from…
Rough experience flying to and from Iceland.
We were sent an email to bid on seat upgrades. We did so and were charged. $1100
The morning of our flight, we received another email that there was a plane switch and we were bumped back to economy. We originally had paid for extra leg room. These seats did not have that.
At the airport, the agent assured us we would be refunded while in the air.
Upon landing we received an email that the refund would take 10 weeks.
Disappointing. They can take money within a few minutes. Not deliver on what was paid for. Then take 10 weeks to return it.
My wife and I are both small. The seats are tight. The service is fair.
USB charging ports only.
Rubbish company
Rubbish company. Unbelievable compact seating. Seats recline which means the person behind is really compromised for space. Each flight was delayed. Cabin personnel were not bothered. Will never fly with them again
Horrible customer service
Dealing with customer service has been terrible. I have asked for explanations and transaction history of my account and also help with vouchers and gift certificates...zero help. Very disappointed!!!
Avoid IcelandicAir if it can be helped
I travel to multiple countries per year and this is by far the worse airline I have ever flown. Uncomfortable seats, no food in economy unless you pay extremely high price for sub par food, stolen items from checked bag (luckily not valuable) and grumpy employees. Overpriced tickets. Nope. Never again.
Icelandair screwed up on seats and won’t make it right.
I called 4 days before flight to confirm that seats selected were RECLINING for overnight flight to Iceland. The person confirmed that they were 3 times, since I made sure to ask more than once. OUR SEATS were 1 of 2 rows that were locked and would not allow reclining. Simple request, simple answer. VERY unhappy with Icelandair’s response. So far has refused to refund fees paid for advance seat selection or upgrade seats on the return flight. BIG MISTAKE because two simple options to make it better and nothing. Won’t fly again and will tell others about the problems. THREE times I confirmed on the phone, after waiting 40+ minutes on hold.
Care or don’t care, you make the call
Yep, they’re bad in every way. I missed my connecting flight 70% them, 30% me but they don’t care.
Then they cancelled my return flight so I had to pay $1500 on the spot to get home. Makes Spirit Airlines look good.
The worst part, they don’t care!
Utterly dismal
Utterly dismal. From the weaponized incompétence of the gate agents to the pathetic ryan air style ads, absurd tiny cups of coffee, and nickel & diming every last thing, this airline seems to be begging to go under. Never again.
Bus stations have more staff
Icelandair had a barely staffed check-in at a major NYC international airport. Tuesday, July 28, 2026 there were only two people who ended up checking in two customers that took nearly an hour. Then one of the two employees went on break with a full line of people waiting to check in. With security, the delays and uncertainty of the weather, Icelandair made my experience stressful and made me feel unwelcome. This is the SECOND time I have had this experience in three years. They owe paying customers more at one of the US’s most used airports. I would ask for a credit but based on charging people on the plane for a soda, Icelandair might need the money.
Icelandair Denied Reimbursement Despite Written Commitment
I am filing a complaint against Icelandair regarding their failure to honor a written commitment made to me following a flight cancellation on a round-trip itinerary that began and ended in the United States (Newark, NJ).
My return flight, Icelandair flight FI301 (Faroe Islands to Keflavik, Iceland), was cancelled on July 8, 2026 due to weather, with the rebooked flight also cancelled on July 9, 2026. At the time of cancellation, Icelandair sent a written message committing to reimburse accommodation costs up to €180 per room, plus related expenses, if I was unable to reasonably return home — which was the case. I submitted documented expenses through their claims portal, but Icelandair denied the claim citing EU Regulation 261/2004's inapplicability to my itinerary. I do not dispute that regulatory point, but Icelandair's own written commitment was made independently of that regulation, with no such condition attached. I have followed up multiple times (7/12, 7/21, and a final notice) without a substantive response.
Choose a different airline
This airline is terrible in many different ways.
No meals were given on the long haul flight, drinks and snacks are not complimentary and are over priced.
Very long delay while waiting to take off, airline staff were quite rude in the airport in Iceland.
Suitcase was destroyed... Wheel was broken and it was torn open, with zip missing and the lock completely gone. All clothes and belongings were soaking wet with some damage. My suitcase turned up on the baggage carousel wrapped in what looked like plastic wrap with tape and some of my clothes hanging out of the top and bottom of it.
I made a complaint in the airport I arrived at, they logged a complaint and forwarded me the details to get in touch with Iceland air to provide proof and explain in further detail.
I made the complaint once I had images of the damages and had nothing but problems with the airline about the damages caused, emailing back and forth for 6months because they wanted more and more information even though they had proof included that they needed in the first email. They would not cover damages to the things that were broken or cover anything I needed replaced all they did was offer little compensation for the suitcase as they determined that couldn't be fixed, there was absolutely no way of saving the suitcase.
I would not recommend this airline, even if you have problems they have very little interest in helping with the situation. I am disgusted by their customer service and I will tell everyone to avoid this airline at all costs.
Disgusting company
Disgusting company! I think they will start charging for the air soon!
They charged me 130$ for my carry-on I used for years, even though I was able to fit my luggage in their measure box, saying "it's too tight"
@icelandair is a scam!!
I had a very disappointing experience…
I had a very disappointing experience with Icelandair. A missed connection caused by the airline left us with over $400 in unexpected expenses. Despite months of emails, phone calls, and online chats, we have received little more than delays and vague responses, with no resolution. Mistakes can happen, but poor customer service and a lack of accountability are much harder to overlook. Based on our experience, I cannot recommend Icelandair.
Icelandair "AI" telephone system/customer service
Icelandair "AI" telephone system
1. absolutely sucks ... the menu system and the long pauses need reworking = it's crap ... probably the worst I've experienced in quite some time :(
2. customer service (answering telephones) significantly understaffed = waiting >90minutes
3. why do I have to wait > 5 minutes 30 seconds before getting the option for a call back
4. why do I have to wait yet another indefinite amount of time because the customer service headset wasn't working properly and she couldn't hear me
Hello
Hello , recently I used this airline and I though the service was a bit poor due to the fact that the airline did not provide no blanket ( inside the airplane was very cold due to the ac) but also because there was a $5 charge on the AirPods to watch a movie when usually many airlines company provided them for free of charge. I was a bit disappointed

Our trip fell apart before we’d even started. On July 18, we flew Icelandair from Baltimore to Keflavik with a connection to London Gatwick — a connection Icelandair itself scheduled with only 1 hour 10 minutes to clear passport control and reach the gate. Delays and an overbooked flight turned that tight window into a missed connection, and our group ended up stranded overnight in a hotel lobby — costing us a full day of our planned trip before we’d even reached our destination.
Then, on July 25, on our flight back from London to Keflavik, we arrived at bag drop 1 minute after the cutoff due to a traffic accident on the highway — completely outside our control. Despite being checked in online already, Icelandair refused to accept our bags, and instead of rebooking just that one segment, they cancelled our entire remaining itinerary — including our return flight from Keflavik to Baltimore on July 29.
When we called to fix it, we were told we needed to book an entirely new, full-price itinerary just to get home — no partial fix, no consideration for the circumstances, no flexibility for a 1-minute miss caused by a documented accident. We had also purchased Icelandair’s own cancellation protection, confirmed at booking for all passengers, but they denied our claim, saying missed flights simply aren’t covered — even one caused by a traffic accident.
End result: Icelandair’s own scheduling turned a connection into a missed flight and a lost vacation day, and then their policies turned a 1-minute bag drop miss into a ~$5,000 bill just to get our group home. Their “protection” product offered no protection when we actually needed it.
I paid extra for a preferred seat
I paid extra for a preferred seat. Halfway thru the flight the flight attendant MOVED me into a different seat (back of the plane near the exit - very cold and uncomfortable) because a couple beside me had an infant who was fussy and they did not purchase a separate seat for him. THEY SAVED MONEY BY NOT OPTING FOR A SEAT FOR THEIR INFANT AT MY EXPENSE.. I wasn't offered a refund for my preferred seating, nor was I upgraded or even apologized to. Really Icelandair?!
I am a travel coordinator in a large company in Eastern Ontario. Needless to say: no one from our company will be flying with IcelandAir as long as I work there.
This airline is awful on so many…
This airline is awful on so many levels. Their website and almost all emails are in unintelligible Icelandic. They constantly nickel and dime you and charge you even for soda on board. Their systems are sketchy not allowing check in or giving incorrect information. Onboard entertainment was broken. And no on board device charging. They are not cheap, yet provide low budget service. Book with someone else.
no food on an 9 hour flight
