Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 64 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many people were dissatisfied with the booking process, encountering issues such as hotels not honoring reservations, incorrect bookings, and misleading information about hotel quality and location. Customers also frequently reported problems with pricing, including hidden fees, currency conversion issues, and advertised prices that increased significantly upon attempting to book. The website itself was a source of frustration for many, with non-functional editing features, difficulties in booking advertised deals, and a lack of transparency regarding crucial information. The customer service was consistently criticized for being unhelpful, difficult to reach, and unresponsive to issues, often offering minimal compensation or directing customers to contact hotels directly. Some people also felt that the service provided was unreliable, particularly concerning internet service and the inability to make changes to reservations or receive refunds.

Hotwire/Expedia straight up ripped me off.

I booked a trip to LA. The nonrefundable rental car portion for 17 days was $1171.07, or $69.00 a day. I checked the rental car website, and found the same car, for the same 17 days, was only $32.00 a day, or $564.00+ tax. Difference of $607.00 !! Called hotwire and was given a PATHETIC excuse that the price fluctuates during the day. It doe not more than DOUBLE! This was a RIPOFF, pure and simple. Don't make the mistake I did. Read reviews first, (There are many.) and don't use hotwire/Expedia !!!!! I have closed my account!

MISLEADING website. Shows one but you get something else.

I actually want to give 0 rating. But there is no zero. Please DON’T use HOTWIRE at all. They don’t listen to you. They list hotels like Hilton, double tree and give you a motel. Even the price more than if you buy it from other sites or directly. I asked if they can change to a different hotel and they don’t listen to you. We think we are getting a discount but you get a terrible experience. Please don’t book through them.

Apathetic customer service .. no customer loyalty ..

Somehow got 2 rooms booked instead of one - noticed a few hours later - frequent user of hotwire - some good experiences, some bad. Nothing they can do - apatheic customer "service" and escallation. They noted in the internal file they called me back twice and got voicemail, my phone had nothing. Use them if you are a gambler .. roll the dice. This event wiped out any savings I got from them for the past year. Hope this helps.

Booked a hotel in Canada from Canada

Booked a hotel in Canada from Canada, using an account with a Canadian address and a Canadian credit card and they display pricing in usd? Did not realize until I checked my credit card statement. Because of the currency difference with was a significant increase and was the same price as if I booked directly. I contacted support and they didn't bother replying. It seems intentionally disceptive to appear lower in pricing. First and last time booking with this site.

A nightmare experience to cancel hotel reservation

I booked a hotel reservation through hotwire 3 months ahead of time thinking it's free cancellation anyway so I can book it first and cancel later if plans change. Turns out the system is designed to make it super difficult to cancel any reservation. The cancellation button on the website takes you back to the login page and continue the loop. There is no support phone number in their email so I had to AI the phone number to wait an hour to talk to someone to cancel my reservation when it only took a click a button on other travel website. This webiste should be shut down by now with all the 1 star reviews. It is moment like this I wish AI can actually take over human society and help us be better. I am actually still on hold while I type this review. I hope someone actually picks up otherwise I will go mad....It's an hour later and no one picks up. Now I have to deep dive the web to find another way to contact hot wire support such a waste of my time... I called the hotel and they can cancel my reservation on their end very easily but now is the problem of how to get my deposit refund back....any one had a similar experience how did you resolve it?

It's just a scam

It's just a scam. For many weeks now I am trying to get a good deal on The Palazzo in Vegas. The price on the results page looks nice, but when you then click on it, by magic the price goes up 400 dollars. And this is not just N=1, it happens every day, weeks in a row.

Done after 13 years

I have been using Hotwire since 2013, if not earlier. I used to LOVE them. Not so much anymore. I will not longer use them at all. I travel for work (medical field) and 1 of my clients had to change an appt which meant I no longer had to stay overnight. I could not change, get credit or refund for a 1 night stay at a Holiday Inn. The reservation stood though I could not stay. I was out over $120+ which I won't get back since I am a 1099. Ok..I suck it up, I am mad because of such a LONG history with them, upset, hoping for a courtesy credit, but OK.
Less than 30 days later I had to have a hotel, 2 nights over $250. I thought..1 more try. I purchased it and checked in. Roaches were all in the room, not afraid of the light, not running, just walking around. I went to front desk of a very well known chain and was given another room. Seemed OK that night, then in the morning, in the bathroom, not afraid of me at all , was another roach. I told front desk at 7 a.m. as I was getting tea (not food) that morning and they said they would spray my bed...not room..bed🙄 I talk to text hotwire AND submitted pictures when I got in my car and they asked if I could checkout in 30 min. I explained I had to be at work and was driving already. I would not be back for 12.5 hours. They said call back then.
At 8:15 PM I did and here was their offer... Stay OR they could get me another hotel and pay up to $70. I was willing to leave BUT the least I would have had to pay ON TOP OF what I had already paid was another $86. This should have been a courtesy move. I didn't need money back, I needed a roach free room. When I said I wasn't paying anymore on top of what had paid and I wasn't driving 30 miles farther out (making my commute more than an hour) their last offer was stay and $25 for my "inconvience". I explained no because I would be spending that much at a laundromat to wash my things before I could go home. This is a company that is no longer even a little bit of what it used to be.

I rented a hotel room for the same day…

I rented a hotel room for the same day just hours before check in. When I arrived the hotel door was locked with a phone number on the door. No one answered the phone. I tried multiple times waiting in the parking lot for 1 hour. I called Hotwire help line they couldn’t get through to the hotel either. They refused to give me a credit for a different hotel or a refund. I paid for a room I could not access.

I wish I can go lower then a 1 star

I wish I can go lower then a 1 star the WiFi is absolutely unbearable. It constantly drops, slows to a crawl for no reason, and somehow always manages to stop working at the worst possible times. Streaming? Buffers endlessly. Video calls? Forget it — frozen screens and robotic voices every few minutes. Even basic browsing feels like I’m back in 2005.
What makes it even worse is that every time they push one of their “updates” or “improvements,” the service somehow gets more unstable. You’d think updates are supposed to fix problems — not create brand-new ones. After every maintenance notification, I brace myself because I know the connection is about to get even more unreliable.
And don’t even get me started on customer service. Getting a straight answer is nearly impossible. You spend forever on hold, only to be told to restart your router for the hundredth time. No accountability, no real solutions — just scripted responses and empty promises that it’ll “stabilize soon.” It never does.

Absolutely Disgusting and Unacceptable…

Absolutely Disgusting and Unacceptable Experience at Hotwire.com
We traveled all the way from Vancouver to Victoria with our kids for a family vacation. We had a confirmed reservation and everything was planned around this booking.
We arrived at NIGHT, with children, tired from travel — only to be told at the front desk that they had “oversold” the hotel and there was no room available for us.
No room. No backup plan. No real help.
There were no ferries running at that hour, so we were completely stranded in Victoria with our kids. Because of their overbooking and poor management, we had no choice but to sleep in our car. It was cold, uncomfortable, and extremely stressful. We had to keep the car running all night just to stay warm. The kids were upset and confused. What was supposed to be a special family holiday turned into a nightmare.
What makes it worse:
• No proper apology
• No compensation
• No follow-up call
• No accountability
They simply acted like it was normal.
This is completely unacceptable, especially to do to a family with children who trusted their confirmed reservation. A hotel that does not honor bookings should not be trusted.
Our trip was ruined because of their incompetence.
We absolutely do NOT recommend staying here.
Avoid booking with them if you value your time, money, and family vacation.

Good prices but clearly not set up for…

Good prices but clearly not set up for UK customers. Proces only in $ - no facility for prices in £

Booking went OK but when it came to payment, the website would not accept UK postal codes!!!
So I had to redo the booking (which allowed payment on collection) and abandon the excess insurance (which required payment in advance).
Its a Europcar booking so hopefully . . .

Customer service

I have used hotwire several times in the past and have never had an issue, but I have never needed to use their customer service. Their customer service is absolute crap. For car rentals you are supposed to use the text help. It asks for reservation and phone number. I typed it in. I few minutes later it asks again. I again enter it. No response for 30 minutes, which is of course just an ask for my number and reservation. By this point I had already called, but their automated system only has selection for flights and packages. I selected packages. Someone answers, but you can only hear the person typing on their computer and background noise. I say hello...just typing. Never got any one to respond. I canceled my reservation. Won't be using hotwire again.

Hot wire Bait and Switch!

Beware bait and switch ! I was not given the deal on the website. For hours, tried to book a room that was shown on the Hotwire site with no success. ,I tried several times over 2hours, and the advertised offer would not work. It kept saying try again it didn't go through, I contacted customer service. Adrianna told me to try a different device.
Then she told me to log out, delete cookies and go back in, to refresh prices try a different browser. I did everything she said...The $155 offer for my desired date was still listed. Although, I was still not able to have it go through. She offered, me a different hotel that was $100 more. This is bait and switch and is totally unacceptable. I spoke to a manager Griselda with no luck. All that was offered was try later or we can find you another deal which were $100 more plus resort fees!!!! . Meanwhile all this time the deal is still up on the hotwire website. The website held money on my card every time I tried to put the reservation through. This is disgraceful! Buyer beware!!! Don't waste your time on hotwire.

Very disappointing experience with the rep that said he'd do everything he could - which was NOTHING

Very disappointing experience with Hotwire. They heavily promote themselves as a last-minute deal service, but the reality was misleading and frustrating.

We specifically selected city center as our location preference, yet Hotwire issued us a hotel 8.5 km away from the city center. That is not “city center” by any reasonable definition — it completely defeats the purpose of booking accommodation for convenience and accessibility.

If location filters are ignored, then the service becomes unreliable and borderline deceptive. A cheap price means nothing when you’re stuck far outside the city with added transport costs and wasted time.

This experience seriously undermines trust in Hotwire’s platform. If location matters to you, think twice before booking.

Refusing renewal of provided complementary equipment

I contacted hot wire initially through our account manager. Tanya requested that I text her relating to an extra WiFi unit that had to be provided vecause Hotwire's equipment was unable to give my condo a full wi.Fi coverage. Tanya never responded even though she had told me to reach out to her at this time of year. I reached out to hot liar and they hung up on me because they didn't know anything about it because Tanya must work for the hoa, which she of course, does not. Therefore, they intend to bill me for equipment that they have to provide because of their woefully weak internet wifi service. They are doing this instead of honoring the complimentary equipment they promised to renew annually.

False promises

Our HOA switched over to Hotwire over the summer of 2025 from Xfinity hardwired service. They promised great wireless service and it is far from the truth. I get an average 10 to 15 minutes of spinning arrows and lag on every hour show I watch.
