Worst customer service ever

I booked a car one month in advance. Yet on the pickup day we had to wait for over 2 hours at Tromsø airport because our car wasn't ready. The staff was more busy chitchatting with each other and was not helpful at all. They kept saying that the car would soon be here.
We returned the car a day earlier because we wouldn't need it anymore. Yet Hertz had the audacity to charge us with airport parking fees - which they refused to remove from the invoice (even though the staff told us to return the car to the same parking P3 where we picked it up). They said that I had to prove that I returned the car earlier - which is ridiculous because they don't hand you out any form of receipt when you return the car. Some sleep head at the counter probably just booked the car in hours later. Even after several email correspondence with Hertz customer service they wouldn't remove the charges. Moreover, they have really hefty administration fees on top when they charge you parking fees. This is a real rip-off shop! Never again!

Charge more and do not refund the difference

I got a car reservations months before my trip. At the Tromso airport I waited an hour to get on the line to pick my car and they did not have any cars left! Because I was a gold member they gave me a "free" upgrade of the car but charged me + 1000 NOK additionally. Then the invoice came out and it is more than 300 NOK from what I have been charged. For more than 2 weeks no refund for the remaining amount and they do not even bother answering my email.

My experience with Hertz was absolutely…

My experience with Hertz was absolutely terrible. I have rented cars from many companies in different countries, and this was by far the worst experience I have ever had.

The customer service was extremely poor. The staff were unhelpful, dismissive, and unwilling to clearly explain the charges. What frustrated me the most was the extra money they added without proper explanation. As a customer coming from another country, I felt taken advantage of. It honestly felt like they were adding unnecessary fees simply because I was a foreigner.

The pricing was not transparent at all. The final amount I had to pay was much higher than what was originally presented. There were hidden charges and unexpected costs that were never clearly communicated in advance.

I strongly advise others, especially international travelers, to be very careful before booking here. Do not be fooled like I was. There are many better rental companies with fair prices and honest service. This was a very disappointing experience, and I will never rent from them again.

Very poor experience

We had a very disappointing experience with Hertz at Tromsø Airport.
After landing, we queued at the kiosk for around 45 minutes, despite only a few customers ahead of us. One staff member was extremely slow while another processed multiple customers in the same time.
We had booked a Toyota Yaris Cross, but after finally reaching the desk, we were told the car was suddenly “not available” and given a different vehicle with minimal explanation.
We were then instructed to walk to Zone P, which turned into a 10-minute walk on icy roads with suitcases, with unclear directions. The car park signage was confusing, and we had to ask other people for help.
When we finally located the car, it smelled strongly of cigarette smoke. It was obvious the vehicle had not been properly inspected or cleaned, which is completely unacceptable for a rental company.
At that point, returning to the airport desk meant another long walk, another queue, and more delay — so we tried calling and using online chat instead. No response, no support.

More like moderne "mafia", stay away!

It is unclear whether the issue is poor communication at Hertz Molde, inadequate customer service training, or a more fundamental lack of cognitive awareness. Either way, there appears to be no middle ground: you are either open and available to customers or closed. Customers who have booked in advance should reasonably expect staff to be present, attentive, and prepared.

While it is understandable that staff may have multiple tasks, this does not excuse the failure to be available when customers arrive at the scheduled time. A booking creates an obligation to be present and responsive.

Customers should not be asked to return only to be told that there are no routines for locating lost property, or that items may have been discarded. Any lost items should be properly logged and handed in to Avinor or the police, not treated casually or irresponsibly.

Warning lights illuminated, incorrect tyre pressure, and electric vehicles not sufficiently charged are all typical. especially when embarking on long journeys. No one expects to receive a petrol or diesel car with only 70% fuel, and the same standard must apply to electric vehicles. An inadequately charged EV is not fit for purpose and creates unnecessary trouble for the customer.

Overall, Hertz Molde demonstrates a lack of professionalism, poor routines, and little consideration for customers' time, safety, or expectations. Significant improvements are required in both customer service and operational discipline. Stay away!

Absolute disaster

Absolute disaster – completely unreliable, never Hertz again

We had booked a 5-seat car well in advance, completed online check-in, and even received a confirmation email from Hertz stating that the vehicle was ready for pickup. What happened at Tromsø Airport was a nightmare.

At the self-service kiosk, nothing worked due to system errors. After calling Hertz support, we were told to make a new booking and assured that the original payment would be refunded. We followed these instructions.

Then came the worst part:
Instead of the 5-seat vehicle we had booked, Hertz assigned us a Ford Transit van with only 3 seats.

We were five people, including two elderly passengers, a pregnant woman, and a minor. Handing over a 3-seat transporter in this situation is completely unacceptable and shows a total lack of responsibility. The vehicle was refused immediately and not driven a single meter.

To make matters worse, phone support told us to wait or sleep at the airport until the counter reopened in the morning. With a family. At night. In winter.
I have never experienced such disregard for customers from an international rental company.

End result:
Charged twice
No usable vehicle provided
Forced hotel stay and additional transport costs
No solution, no accountability, no reliability

Hertz failed on every level: confirmed reservation not honored, wrong vehicle provided, zero customer care.
If you need reliability – especially when traveling with family – avoid Hertz at all costs.

Never again.

Safety concerns ignored in cold conditions

I rented a car from Hertz Tromsø Airport (11–16 October). The vehicle was provided with summer tyres, and I was not informed at pickup.

During the rental, Hertz contacted me to mention the tyres and said I would “probably be fine.” I explicitly asked if any action was needed, but no alternative vehicle or solution was offered.

Weather forecasts showed 3-5 °C and deteriorating conditions, and my last night was about 1 hour away from Tromsø in a remote area. I did not want to risk driving early in the morning under unsafe conditions, so I booked a hotel near the airport at my own expense. On the morning of 16 October, there was sleet/light snow and near-freezing temperatures, confirming the risk.

What concerns me most is that Hertz focused only on calendar dates and minimum interpretations, ignoring actual safety conditions and manufacturer recommendations (for example, summer tyres losing effectiveness below ~7 °C).

I would strongly advise future customers to rent from another company that actively cares about safety, not just paperwork. And if you do rent from Hertz, double-check the car and the tyres carefully. Reading the reviews here and on other platforms, it is clear that this type of customer service not an isolated incident.

PS: Even though I raised clear safety concerns, Hertz offered 150 NOK as “goodwill.” For me, that amount highlights how lightly my concerns were treated, as if road safety and personal risk were worth no more than 3 coffees for Hertz.

I am totally disappointed with Hertz in…

I am totally disappointed with Hertz in Norway (Torp). We provided the company details for billing purposes, but at the end of our trip they billed us personally, and now we cannot claim because the case is already closed. Seriously? You call, you send messages, and they don't respond. Then you connect with the internal agent, and when they don't know what to say, they tell you that it's time to close and that they will attend to you tomorrow... Is that what customer service is? What a quick way to get rid of problems without valuing the user who pays their salaries...

Only thing missing is a pirate flag

Ooo. I wish I had read these bad experiences earlier. Naïeve enough I thought Hertz was a quality brand.

A little dent in the license plate has been worked up to a 1500 euro penalty fee. I can only speculate there is a play or scam going on. Even with labour and material prices in Norway.

Communication is a classic corporate smoke screen with no-reply email addresses forwarding you payment confirmation.

Going to try and roll back the payment they launched after I strictly forbode them to do so pending more information.

Communication takes weeks! at a time.

Avoid! For eternity.

Complaint Regarding Car Rental…

Complaint Regarding Car Rental Experience with
Hertz

I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with a recent car rental experience with Hertz.
Unfortunately, it was very difficult to reach and communicate with your staff, even though, according
to the information provided online, customer service was supposed to be available during working
hours.
The vehicle itself was clean and in good working condition, which we appreciated. However, due to
severe weather conditions in Norway on October 4, 2025, our flight from Brønnøysund was
canceled. As a result, we had to extend our rental in order to travel to Trondheim.
The employee who assisted us with the extension was unable to provide clear information
regarding the additional charges. Subsequently, we received an invoice for the extra day, which
turned out to be more expensive than taking a taxi from Brønnøysund to Trondheim.
This lack of transparency and the unexpectedly high costs caused us significant inconvenience and
disappointment. I hope this feedback will be taken seriously and that improvements will be made to
ensure greater clarity and fairness.

Hi Elena, It is a one-way fee if you deliver the car in another city, and this is most likely the reason for the expensive extra day. Please send us an e-mail with all details to cs@hertz.no and we will check out your case. Best regards Hertz Bilutleie

After returning my rental car

After returning my rental car, I received an invoice for NOK 6,000 nearly a month later, claiming a charge for a minor cosmetic scratch that I was not aware of during my rental period. I am confident that I did not cause this damage or not happened during my rental period.
I am planning to file a formal complaint against Hertz Norway through the Norwegian Consumer Authority (Forbrukertilsynet).
If you have experienced similar issues with Hertz or other rental companies, I encourage you to consider submitting a complaint as well. Collective action can help ensure fair treatment and accountability.

Poor customer service

The checkout documents I received stated my rental van was full of fuel. When I got to the van, it was only 3/4 full. I took a picture and uploaded it to the platform. When I returned the van, I left it with more fuel than I received, however Hertz have charged me for both fuel and for having to refuel it. I have sent numerous emails complaining but NO response. Simply, they don’t care.

Not a well run business.

Experienced minor damage (scratches) to front bumper in parking lot. After return, did not hear anything from Hertz Norge for 3 months, then they suddently charged my CC $1800 with no explanation. I had to call to request a cost damage report. I used my own insurance to file claim, but the delay disqualified me so I am out the $1800. Hertz did not care when I complained. Would not use or recommend.

Illegal tyres

Arriving at Harstad/Narvik airport we joined a very long queue for the Hertz rental desk with only one person serving despite two planes just arriving.
When it was our turn we followed the process whereby we had to sign for damages already noted, one of which was a "slow puncture" which I queried to make sure it had been fixed & was assured it had been.
On checking the vehicle over we were surprised to find it actually had studded tyres but being from the UK we just assumed it must be the time of year to swap the tyres.
Five minutes down the road we got a tyre pressure warning come up so I emailed Hertz to be told the sensors "just needed to be reset", why hadn't they then?
On arrival at our Airbnb the host expressed surprise at the studded tyres as most people did over the course of the next few days but it wasn't until we were in the village of Å that a retired police officer told us the tyres were actually illegal as they should not be fitted until 16th October!
In addition he told us we would be liable for a hefty fine if we're were stopped, that the safety of the car was compromised (stopping distances) & that if we were unlucky to be involved in an accident our insurance would be invalid as we were on illegal tyres!!! Not what we wanted or needed to hear while on holiday.
I immediately emailed Hertz at Evenes who said they would cover the cost of any fines but did not address any safety issues.
Not satisfied we visited the nearest Hertz office in Lecknes when it opened on Monday morning hoping they would change the car but while they admitted the tyres were illegal & we should not have been issued the vehicle they would not change it & just said it was "an Evenes problem".
We therefore had no choice but to continue our holiday & make our way back to Evenes. Fortunately, we made it back OK but it caused us a lot of stress & spoiled the end part of our holiday.
Hertz have shown a total lack of duty of care & interest. We think they simply didn't have enough cars ready when the two flights arrived on the 1 st September & we were the ones they palmed off with a vehicle that really wasn't fit for the purpose.
We will never use Hertz again.

Using my property to make money without my consent.

The fact Hertz dont care about their reviews is wild. I was given a subsitute car by Fremtind Insurance via Hertz while my car went in repair in Lillestrøm. First, they were giving me a mini electric car, which they assumed I am equipped with all of the time in the world to charge the car. I had to reschedule it. Long story short, when I returned the car on Friday evening. Forgot my child car seat in the rental car.

The guy who took the car later for washup, neglected the fact that the child seat is not theirs, he did not log it in system as a forgotten customer item and sent it to the airport.

In between I was trying to call them all over did not help. Sent emails, did not help.

Then on Monday earliest, I went their, manager said: no we have not seen anything. I was shocked and was polite anyway, understanding that things can happen.

Then the manager told me that colleague confirms that he took the child seat to the airport. I personally went to airport department, there was a guy Victor (was v.helpful and we did a deep search), no luck. Came back.

Now the manager confirms that the child seat is probably under another rental car (rented out - making money) you just have to wait for it. And manager is steering clear that I am not eligible for any kind of replacement. I will not leave this case like this.

Anyway: and today I saw an invoice stating I have driven 564km on the car. Which instead I have driven 55km in total. Nice try Hertz. Keep fooling.

Do not rent from this station

Do not rent Hertz from Oslo Central station – terrible experience.
They are completely untrustworthy. We returned the car in the evening with no damage, but no staff were available to check it with us. The next day, they claimed the car was damaged and forced us to pay nearly €1,000. This feels like a scam.
When we first picked up the car, they didn’t even ask if we wanted full insurance coverage – almost as if the whole situation was set up in advance.
This company is not serious or reliable. Avoid this station at all costs!

Hertz office at Evenes airport…
