If I could give zero stars I would. Hired a car for a week from Florence airport. There was an electrical fault with the car which we did not discover until the next day when we were out in t... See more

Avoid Hertz and its subsidiary Thrifty
I rented a car at Florence Airport on August 24. When I checked in at the desk, the officer mentioned that there was a minor issue with the bumper. However, no one from the company accompanied me to inspect the car, nor did they conduct a walk-around with me.
Upon returning the car, I requested that an officer check the vehicle with me. He claimed he was alone and couldn’t inspect the car in my presence. I agreed, feeling confident because I knew there were no issues with the car. However, an hour later, I received an email stating there was a problem and they had charged a ridiculous amount of money to my Visa without any justification.
As soon as I received the email, I immediately responded, disputing the charges. Unfortunately, they never replied. This feels like a fraudulent practice by Hertz, as by refusing to inspect the car with you, they leave themselves an opportunity to charge you for any damages you are not responsible for. It seems to be a strategy to increase their revenue and profit.
NEVER USE HERTZ IN ITALY
NEVER USE HERTZ IN ITALY
I recently rented a Hertz SUV in Italy. We were having a pretty good experience with it at first (minus them giving away our car due to our flight being delayed and then having to wait an hour at the desk). However, while driving it back to Malpensa Airport, we got a flat tire. There was no spare, so we called roadside assistance. Even they didn't have a spare or anyone to fix it, so they recommended calling a tow truck, and they said if we got it repaired locally, we'd have to pay and likely wouldn't be reimbursed. Little did we know, this flat tire would end up costing us almost $1200.
They literally charged me the following fees for a flat tire:
-Rent Here Leave It There (RIHLIT) charge of €350 (for not returning it to where i picked it up, even though i was literally driving it back to the airport when the tow truck picked it up and the person at the desk verbally told me she'd waive it)
-Automotive charges: €15.00 (no idea what this is)
Penalty for damage/theft: €324.19 (that's an expensive tire...)
-Damage treatment charge: €50.00 (why is there another damage charge??)
-Towing/towing costs: €150.00 (was not communicated to me that I would be charged for this or )
-VAT: €126.58 (additional tax on the above fees)
And that's not even mentioning the $190+ Uber ride we had to take for the 40 minute drive back to the airport, that roadside assistance said would be reimbursed, yet the rental desk refused to.
Needless to say I won't be using them again, in Italy or anywhere else.
hertz car rental Naples airport italy
the car was fine, the staff were friendly and helpful. I was advised by a friend to purchase third party additional insurance, the hertz staff did not try to sell me anything more.
the shuttle bus was a little tricky and busy. so I walked the 10 mins to pick up.
Hertz gave me a terrible, non safe car
I recently rented a car from Hertz and reserved a Fiat 500X or equivalent. Upon arrival at Malpensa Airport, I was given a DR 5.0, which was vastly inferior and unsafe. The car struggled with acceleration, braking was unreliable, and it felt dangerous to drive—especially with my children on board. Despite my complaints, Hertz insisted that this car was in the same class as the Fiat 500X, which is simply unacceptable. The only thing I got out of this is a 50€ coupon expiring in 12 months for my next rental which is not going to happen. I would rather pay more and be safe on the road.
This experience left me deeply disappointed, and I urge others to be cautious when renting from Hertz, as they may not receive the quality they expect.
I had read about Hertz Italy price…
I had read about Hertz Italy price gouging and it seems to is is regular practice. Shameful! A 300 euro rental at Malpensa with rental cars.com who claim no hidden charges became 500 with extra insurance demanded at the desk. This needs to stop!
Hertz Rome Fiumicino
Booked: Toyoyta C-HR / VW Golf
Received: Fiat 500x
I feel I have to balance out some of the bad reviews here, since my experience was great.
I booked same day as flight with Hertz Fiumicino Airport via Autoeurope, but got a good price.
Checked in online before flight to save some time.
Arrived at counter 11:30pm, two staff on desk, and no queue (meanwhile at Sicily by Car was a long queue).
Took only 5mins to get keys.
Checkout form showed no damage, but inspecting the car there was a scuff on the alloys. I did not go back to report it (too late by then anyway).
Checkin was also very efficient. As soon as we parked up an assistant came over. He checked the car in 5min, and gave us the all clear. Car was full, and no charges.
He then fetched us a trolly while we unloaded our luggage, and disabled Grandma from the car. Super helpful!
Meanwhile another agent approached and asked if we were being served. So plenty of staff available.
My only gripe was with model, Fiat 500x, as did not fit the luggage + wheelchair very well. But this is to be expected of italian form over function design ;)
I have booked a lot of car rentals in Italy, this was the best experience to date.
How nice for a rental day €1600 + 300…
How nice for a rental day €1600 + 300 dollars of petrol Congratulations Luxembourg office you work really well they should shut you down What kind of people are you Shame on you
Unmeritous Hidden Charges
I wish I had read these reviews before booking with Hertz Bergamo Airport. Same story as I'm reading time again here with unmeritous charges!
This time a £75 charge for an extra day despite paying for that up front, and a charge for fuel despite spending €40 to ensure that I returned it with a full tank.
Multiple emails to Hertz later and it looks like I need to go through the hassle of ADR and contacting the credit card company.
Avoid these scam artists at all costs!!
be aware from the scammers by hertz company in Budapest airport
when you bring back your car in Budapest airport branch out of office hours be aware that your credit card will be charged by the scammers the next day with cost what never happened at so ever , like a chip in the front window,i was charged £963.45 when i had 8 witnesses with me that i returned my 9 seater car / van exactually like i received it, as we heard of this business what they do after i booked the car , and could not cancel it ,so i just had no choice besides to take it but we made sure to take photos, besides the point that this amount does not make sense at all, and when i requested for the C C T V footage from when i have parked my car, until i left the premises , in the car park they have chosen whats fully alarmed -secured cameras in every few meters i received the reply that we have a policy not to give it out C C T V . PS this happened recently to a couple of people already so be aware
Stay away at any cost
Stay away at any cost . I rent a car in Naples airport and they charged my card 120 euros above because I return it with 8 minutes delay 😂
I will NEVER hire a car again through…
I will NEVER hire a car again through HERTZ. They charge premium rates and as such you expect, from such a well known and long established company, to get premium service. This was not the case. Hertz Italia at Palermo airport in Sicily first tried to get me to take out their insurance, despite having insurance in place. (Fortunately my friend, having been caught out before with this exact same rip-off and stopped the woman in her tracks). But that was the least of our problems. When we arrived at our vehicle there was a scratched wheel. The photos taken by HERTZ and emailed to me, strategically missed this wheel. We took our own photos and not having driven the vehicle away were confident our evidence (a time stamped photograph) would do the trick. We spoke to the lady at the collection point who thanked us for reporting it, accepted we had photographs, and said as we have not caused the damage it would be reported and we would not be charged. SHE LIED. A month after our return from holiday £128 was deducted from my credit card. As I used Holiday Autos to make the booking, they handled my complaint, and did establish the charge was for the damage, but it appears that HERTZ will not refund this charge. Anyway once bitten, and I will NEVER use or recommend this company again. Use Hertz in Italy at your peril.
I had booked a Tesla model 3
I had booked a Tesla model 3. A couple of days before the time of pick up, I received a confirmation E-mail from Hertz in which it stated what documents I would need on time of pick up. The mail stated clearly, that debit cards would also be accepted. However, at time of pick up, they demanded a credit card. Luckily, I also had a credit card in terms of a Mastercard. However, this was refused by Hertz due to the apparent reason, that the card also had a debit card option. I was shocked to realise that I was refused to get the car, that I had already paid for, due to this reason. Later I found myself even more shocked, when Hertz customer relations wouldn't do anything to help me, and the money I paid for the car would not be refunded. Obviously I am gonna fight this to the end, but I will recommend everyone to choose another car rental company than Hertz. My experience was in Florence Airport, and luckily Sixt was located right next door enabling me and my family to get on with our vacation, as they were able to provide us with a car, despite of our credit card having a debit card option....... If I could give 0 stars I would.... NEVER USE HERTZ, to me they are no better than thieves!
Avoid Hertz Naples at the train station at all cost
Hertz Naples at the train station doesn’t even deserve a star. Avoid at all cost. I didn't agree to sign the damage charge after showing the video, but they literally told me "I don't care, it's none of my business. You can bring your lawyer lol Get out". They knew that I'm living in the US so l prob can't dispute. I also felt they were being sexist and racist.
I've contacted US hertz (I'm a gold member) for help with the videos before and after. US hertz said they tried to contact them but there's no response - and that there's nothing that they can do since they are distinct from Italy Hertz.
TL;DR: avoid Hertz Naples in the train station at all cost. Having a US company chain name doesn't help at all. They are the most unprofessional and the biggest rental car scammer I've ever experienced.
Warning
Warning - I strongly advise against Hertz car rental office in Naples Airport !
I have made a reservation for 8 days specifically at Hertz thinking this was the only rental car company which could be trusted but it is the opposite
On day 1 arriving approx 22.00 CET when arriving at Hertz Naples counter with my reservation name, valid Identity Card and legally valid Driving License, the person at the counter has refused to give the me car booked and on which there was a prepaid engagement and also refused to cancel my reservation. She argued my Driving license "paper" looked too old. (Note I have checked contracts and this clause does not appear as per service contract terms)
Hertz is charging me the cost of the car rental for 8 days since it was prepaid, ie approx 338,23 which was retrieved from my bank account 2 days after although no service was rendered,. I am therefore paying 338,23 Euros for nothing !
This is completely unacceptable and unsane ! Let me share also it was late and i consider it as a trap, I was with my family with my 2 daughters of 7 and 11 years and my wife which were all crying due to the decision of Hertz service counter and also of the fear of not having a car to go away from the Airport and also to reach our summer holiday location outside Naples.... So there is also a potential physiologic & mental choc for children !
When it was clear Hertz counter would not accept to give me the car, I asked another company (xxxxx) at the same rental location, ie Naples Airport which accepted to rent me a car but at a different cost, ie 874 euros.
Note that Hertz Naples Airports also lied since they firstly said that they would accept to give me the car if another rental company would accept to rent me a car, but once I had the approval from the other company they still refused…
I have all pieces of evidence of of this very clear case ID Card, Driving License paper, Restricted Driving License Information Statement (RIR) which certifies the validity and extent of my right to drive issued from the French Ministry of Interior website, and it also legally give me all rights also to rent a car etc. (note it is not a digital Driving License but a Certificate of the Driving License paper).
And the new car rental contract from the other company I had to take (company name xxxxx), Note that the cost for the same period is approx 874 euros.
When exchanging with peers which made a rental at the same time, there was another excuse not to give the prepaid car. It seems that it is an organized trap that I firmly advise not to rent a car at this place !
I highly do not recommend using hertz
I highly do not recommend using hertz
APPALLING SERVICE, LAST MINUTE CHANGE
I am appalled by the terrible service provided by both Ryanair and Hertz, as they informed me they closed the branch at Bournemouth airport and this change is causing a great deal of inconvenience as there are no other available cars at Bournemouth airport and this will result in having to rent a car from the nearby city, at higher rates and with the additional cost of a taxi to reach the location.
This was the first and will be the very last time I do book a car hire through Ryanair, as this is no service to provide.DO NOT RENT CARS THROUGH RYANAIR NOR HERTZ!!!!
they lie about insurance... but corrected it
Edit: at the end of the rental I complained about what happened below and after a long discussion with the agent and the manager, they agreed that I was right and the initial agent was wrong when selling me the insurance and I got reimbursed. I was quite surprised that they act so honestly and I am now very happy about their customer service.
--
liars. They talk nicely but they lie about insurrance. I have an AMEX platinium and registered to their Gold member program.
I told the guy I was already covered by the Amex Platinium for CDW but he insisted that Italy was excluded by Amex and I would need to pay up to 28k$ in case of accident.
it was the weekend so the insurance service from Amex was closed and I couldn't check the information. Later I realised I was fully covered. I lost 150€, more than half the price of the rental
Naples - absolute shambles
Naples - Central Station. No proper return address instructions, vaguely mentioned some PIN code for Google Maps but the only number on the booking took us to a completely different part of Naples. By the time we managed to reroute the fuel
used had gone one bar down just as we finally got there so they showed no sympathy and also charged me €55 euros extra. Had initially refuelled when the system told me I was only 15 km away. No sympathy or interest shown whatsoever. Never again !!!
The office was closed when I had to…
The office was closed when I had to return the car, even if it was supposed to be open. I had to keep the car for the weekend and bring it to another office. They charged me the additional days and even after contacting the customer care, they refused to refund, I will never book with Hertz again
NEVER AGAIN. DO NOT USE.
I rented a car with Hertz because I thought it was one of the big companies and therfore trustworthy. Nothing of the sort. After arriving and prepaying for the car through VIPCars (who were very good - 5*) Herts refused 4 perfectly valid credit cards. Each was checked wioth the supplier over the phone at the time. All of them could see the transaction for the deposit and accepted it. Herts own machines had the problem. The manager would not accept this and we were left 3+ hours trying to get a car that we never got through the booking. Never again!
