Hertz CDG - Avoid like the plague.

Flew into CDG in late October and proceeded to the Hertz desk to collect a car that had been pre booked and pre paid for through the Air France/Hertz partnership. All documentation we received for the booking stated that a credit card in the main drivers name would need to be presented on arrival to cover a security deposit on the hire car.

Upon arrival at the desk we were informed by the downright rude, ignorant and dismissive desk agent (neglected to notice a name unfortunately) that we could not have the car as the booking was made on a separate credit card (Which was also in the main drivers name). When we stated that this was not mentioned whilst booking the car, only the fact that we would need a card in the main drivers name we were met with further ignorance and indifference and told to "Call Air France" to change the card details on a booking we had already paid for (Don't exactly understand how that would work?). After attempting to discuss our options with her it became clear that she was pretty much being awkward for the sake of it (we noticed that a few other customers were being treated in the same manner).

It was at this point that we decided to cut our losses and go to Sixt who are two desks down in the rental building. I could not fault them, the price for the Volvo XC40 we hired for a week was very reasonable, the car was brilliant, the service was excellent and the desk agent was very friendly and helpful.

We are now back home and are being given the run around trying to get a refund from Hertz.

If you are flying into CDG and need a hire car do yourself a favour and avoid Hertz like the plague.

Only getting one star because you can't submit a review with zero.

Rude and Useless

I flew in to CDG and arrived at the Hertz rental car place @ 11:32, but since me rental was for 12:00 they made us sit for a half hour instead of accommodating us even though had a car. I’ve been to many rental car places in the US and abroad and have never encountered this nonsense. In addition the people working at the desk were rude and completely unhelpful!! So we waited for 1/2 an hour while the three of them sat at the desk talking to one another, since no one else came.

Avoid! Gives you a non-full tank then charges you for it!

Very disappointing experience with Hertz. I used them at Paris Charles de Gaulle Terminal 2, and I received a car with a tank that wasn’t full... When asked about it, the parking employee advised me to take a photo to document the fuel level and tell the staff when returning the car.
I followed this advice, thinking it would avoid any issues.

When I returned the car with EXACTLY the same fuel level (after hours, leaving the keys in the drop box), Hertz still charged me an additional 50 euros, claiming the tank wasn’t full.
I made a claim, providing photos before and after, proving the initial fuel level, but my emails have gone unanswered.

Honestly, it’s worth paying a bit more for a more reputable and professional company. I strongly discourage renting from this company. There are plenty of other options at Paris CDG2.

Bandits in suits

Bandits in suits
Rented an electric car in Corsica on June 22, 2024 and in connection with this I bought charging time on an included chip, which I could use freely at their stands with free km, cost 57 Euro
Discovered when handing over the car that the amount had been raised twice on July 22, which I informed the person at the counter. He wouldn't pay back even though I showed him documentation from my account. He said instead that I could contact Hertz in the UK, as it was international. So I did, but they said I should contact Hertz Customer Services.
After countless letters and documentation back and forth for almost 2 months, the last message from Hertz is that - because I handed over the car on July 28 at 10:30 instead of 12 - they believe this was the reason for raising 57 Euro 2x
Note both amounts were withdrawn on 22 June at the same time and at this time, they could not know that the car was handed over on 28 July 1½ hours before 12 noon??
So watch out for Hertz out there - when you rent a car.
I will never rent from them again.

Whe rented a car from Hertz trough a…

Whe rented a car from Hertz trough a Swedish travel agency. When we landed at CDG airport . We got to a Hertz desk with two men. After about 45 minutes and nothing happened. They talked more one the phone then helped waiting customer. We move to the main desk by the parking. Got help from a woman . Se told we had to pay an extra insurance cost 30 euro. We both heard that.we said Ok. Signed the papers. We got charged 69,99 She told us we should get the car in 10 minutes. After about 50 minutes nothing happened. My wife asked something wrong . No they are cleaning the car . After another 30-40 minutes the lady comes up and says I don’t know what say . I upgraded your car . This car had been sitting outside the office all this time.
No excuses, nothing.
Should it take longer time to get a car then flying from Sweden to Paris???
Customer service I so bad . Don’t rent from Hertz. 0 is what I give them

What a surprise

Rented a car from gotrental Dollar/hertz the car was great I think the 5th one I have rented this year, from Béziers airport but I think the only time in a while from hertz. Leaving the car back after washing and filling up,I got to the desk and nobody there I waited a short time but a notice to leave keys in box. Tried opening box several times but couldn’t another agency helped me . But I got a huge surprise at Stansted airport to say I had been charged for a very small scratch on the wheel trim 40 euro and 50 euro admin charge. On the first photo I could not even see it, always renting before they said only report anything over two inches. I did write to them still waiting a reply but they have taken the money.

I rented a vehicle for one day from…

I rented a vehicle for one day from Nice to Montelimar and was quoted 190 Euros.
On arriving at Hertz office in Montelimar we found the office unattended and no parking.
After driving around the block numerous times the attendant arrived back at the office and told us to park in a car park some distance away.
We were charged 815 Euros by Hertz for late return of the the vehicle (20 minutes)
Dont deal with them!!!!!

Scammed me with fake damage

Collected a vehicle at Marseille Airport.
Photographed the damaged on the vehicle as usual.

When dropping off I was accused of causing the damage already there (even though I had date stamped photos of a week prior with the damage on) in my phone.
Mourad (I had to request his name to escalate how he dealt with me) suddenly claimed to not speak English and was interested in my photos - I was told if I didn’t sign the handover contract the car wouldn’t be ‘returned’, and I would be charged daily (for eternity it was suggested) for not returning the vehicle.

I asked to see the stock images of the vehicle they had on file, and bizarrely the only photo they didn’t have was the one that would have proved my innocence - asked to escalate to the management, was told no one was there to discuss with.

Seems a fairly common scam from seeing other reviews, and wish I’d read them before! I have escalated internally with Hertz.

Wouldn’t recommend these guys!

Hertz Paris 17th Arrondissement

Rented at the St Ferdinand place in Paris. Took a bunch of pictures before I drove away, except for the mirrors. At return they charged for a scratch on one mirror. We'll never know if it was there before, I know I didn't hit anything. Anyway, at least they could have made a gesture, like get rid of the ridiculous admin fee... We'll go to Sixt next time.

Actively scammed us claiming a mark was on the car that wasn’t there when we picked it up. It’s clearly a well practiced scam and we fell for it. Strongly advise anyone thinking of using Hertz at Montpellier airport to avoid them.

Straight up getting scammed by Hertz

Straight up getting scammed by Hertz. Paid for insurance and a specific car model, but we get told it's not available for us, and we have to pay extra. As well as pay even more money without that having been previously specified on the website.

Terrible customer service, they tell you to call all types of numbers, but then say they can't help with anything and you have to pay extra for protection that has already been paid for previously.

DO NOT rent from this company, absolutely terrible. 0 stars if I could.

Terrible experience and awful customer…

Terrible experience and awful customer service.

We hired a car and had a flat tyre. After calling the assistance number probably 15 times over an hour and a half I had no choice but to change the tyre myself as I was not near a town, I had two children with me and it was blazing hot. They deliberately did not include all of the kit so you can’t change the tyres yourself so I had to improvise and work the jack by hand. I tried calling again about the replacement tyre but still no answer so I replaced it with the same tyre (in France it seems the garages will only replace two tyres not one…). When I dropped the car off and explained I was told off for fixing the issue on my own (even though they failed to help) and told I would be contacted by a representative about the replacement tyre cost but as I had done it myself I would probably not get any money back. I have called and emailed since them several times but I have not heard back. Please save yourself the trouble and use another company.

SCAM!

SCAM!
I booked a child car seat and booster seat. They didn't provide safe ones. They also gave me a car that was fa smaller than the one I paid for.

Upon returning, they don't check the car at Bordeaux airport and then they automatically charge you for damage (That doesn't exist) and cleaning fee (The car was clean when we returned it).
Con men. Should be ashamed of themselves

Hertz Toulouse WILL try to con you

Do not hire from Hertz/Thrifty Toulouse - they will rip you off. Returned a car that was used for two journeys and parked on a private drive. The guy at the desk tried to get me to accept paying EUR350 immediately for a barely visible dent on 3/4 panel (impossible to detect at pick up - definitely not caused by me). I refused and this was magically reduced to EUR177 via email. Again I refused, but they charged my card anyway and are not responding to my complaint - surely not legal practise. Avoid!

Hertz ne pas louer chez Hertz!

Hertz ne pas louer chez Hertz!! Don't rent at Hertz!!
When you make a reservation at Hertz to get a car at JFK airport the anounced price is correct. However you cannot get the GPS in your options. They say you will have to ask for it upon arrival at counter.
When you do they tell you that yiuvcannot have it unless youvtake the car that has it, which of course double the price of the rent...if yiuvdon't accept, no solution.
When you file a claim afterwards, they ask you documents that you send straight, and an AI responds that they are not in charge of that kind of problem. you are requested to call numbers, which do not work!!
You send another email and there is no answer any more...
Here is for the customer experience and a really bad crooked attitude!!
Should have sticked to my usual car rental company!!!
Plus we did not choose the plate pass but the pay per toll option and they still.invoice 139 usd as if we had activated the plate pass.
This is robbery!!
Still waiting for compensation before legal procedure

Booked online through Norwegian from Sweden. Had paid all the amount except 77€. But at the Nice aéroport Hertz did not count the online booking. They took again the money for all 9 days. How disgusting is that they could withdraw money how much they want. Scammers in real. We came back to Sweden and complained to Norwegian but they gave round round answers. Never book Hertz especially in France. Online booking in France is always hell. Last year bought Flix bus ticket online but they the ticket was never issued. Thieves.

Do not book here

Do not book here. They will rip you off with fake damages and blame it on you. We had a shockingly bad experience where they charged us 300 euros for a negligible hairline scratch that did not occur while we had the car. I took photos before and after the "scratch" is not visible in either photo because it is so fine. We did not have time to properly dispute it because we had to catch a flight and we were traveling with our 6 month old baby. Horrible deceptive tactics.
