account transfer procedure (§21 ZKG)

Worst bank service I have ever experienced. In March 2026 I officially requested account closure effective April 1st, 2026 via the legal account transfer procedure (§21 ZKG). The bank completely ignored all requests from my new bank (Revolut), violating the legal 5-day response deadline. Due to their inaction, a debt of €7.88 accumulated on the account, which blocked the closure. It took months of repeated complaints to finally resolve this. The core issue is not the amount — it is the total disregard for legal obligations. Avoid this bank.

Ms. Bernardo Mendoza

Febry Grabow Rudolph help me to solve a problem with my account and she was really helpful and she knew exactly what is that I needed to do. I was very happy because she was very kind to me!

Good, but too expensive for 2023.

Haspa has a pleasant and modern branch in almost every neighborhood in Hamburg and generally the bank gives you a feeling of security. They also allowed bringing in kilograms of coins for free. Used them for 10 years and will be sad to be switching to another bank. Sadly there is no such thing as a customer loyalty program in Germany and loyal customers get higher fees instead of discounts. Same happened with my energy and phone data provider, instead of awarding old customers, they start charging the double prices.

First problem is 10 Eur monthly fee for a simple Girokonto. Not credit card, not discount/cashback card, nothing, just a plain record in the computer database storing your name and an integer amount of money. Furthermore, competition offers personalized cards, cash-backs, credit cards, premium plans for this price.

Second problem, unknown fees. I wanted to travel outside the EU, so went to the branch and asked the employee, what are the fees and how the fees are calculated. Employee looked through a huge white folder for some minutes, but could not provide me any information on the bank fees. However, this problem exists with other banks too.

Third problem, some branches are closed before their opening time stated on the door (i.e Holstenstraße 115 - 117, 22765 Hamburg).

Last but not least, mobile tan generator is complicated to set up. I have a new phone now, but I have no idea how to transfer the app onto a new device.

P.S.
In Germany a Girokonto (paying account) is a must, be it work, rent, buying, registering household etc.
In my opinion, every obligatory civil instrument should be taken from the tax money.

They are stuck in the Middle Age

They are stuck in the Middle Age. Forget digitalization and get ready for letters, papers and signatures.
Go somewhere else if you want a good service and not waiting in line for customer service.

They don't have any service or support

They don't have any service or support. I've been trying to contact them for a month now, leaving requests for callback, but no one has written or called me yet. This bank is living in the Stone Age. But it doesn't forget to charge every month for every transaction and "service" fee, although they promised me free service for six months as a refugee. And here they lied.
And for two or three months now I can't open a mastercard or visa card from them. This option is just not on the menu for me. Discrimination by race is present.

They are discriminating

They are discriminating against foreigners! Dont Go there If you're not a BLUE eyed German. I am an Brazilian/Italian and Just moved to Germany. I wanted to open an account there but the attendent was interrogating me like I was some kind of criminal, always with a suspicious look, making every step difficult for me. It got to a point I was so offended that I Just told her I was going to put my money elsewhere and left. I am a legal immigrant in this country, with ALL the papers and an European Citizen, but even If I werent , we still deserve respect.
