Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Considering 186 reviews, most reviewers were unhappy with their experience overall. Many consumers frequently reported poor communication, frustrating delays, and completely unhelpful customer service when attempting to resolve urgent problems with their vehicles. Reviewers also encountered significant mechanical failures, unexpected electrical faults, and missing items shortly after completing their car purchases from the dealership. Some reviewers were happy with the helpful staff members, pleasant daily interactions, and surprisingly smooth purchasing processes experienced at certain specific branch locations. These satisfied customers frequently praised extremely knowledgeable sales representatives who provided detailed guidance and made buying a brand new car wonderfully easy.

Not at all good customer service

Bought a used MG ZS Hybrid+ Trophy from the Mill Hill branch on 18/4/26, during the order process they agreed to give us the MG car mats for free and said that it would need to be ordered and we should have it in 2-3 weeks time. We paid the deposit, few days later we went to collect the car, we asked for a inpection report for the 52 point check that they did but was told that it was not available. To date no one has called us from the branch, in fact we had to call several times to check on the car mats. Each time it was the same answer, it was on order and they don't know when they would get them.
As an after sales service I would expect them to at least call us to check if the car was ok or not. Fortunately, the car is lovely to drive without any issues. I don't think I will be buying from them ever again.
20/5/26 I have increased my rating by 1 star was the mats did come

High pressure up-selling of unwanted extras…

Having a service performed by Glyn Hopkin was a deeply unpleasant experience. First, their online "check-in' was simply an attempt to upsell additional very expensive and unwanted extras. It served no other purpose. Then, at the end of the service, they were very insistent on selling a completely unnecessary aircon clean which would have cost more than the service! Although I declined, they tried again a few weeks later by sending a text message that implied that the aircon clean was essential (even though the car had done 3,000 miles since new!). Again I declined but they tried yet again a week later with an email. Their focus is overwhelmingly on selling expensive extras, not on providing a good service to customers.

If I could leave 0 stars I would

If I could leave 0 stars I would. Brought a brand new Nissan Qashqai from here and received on 4/4/25, on the 18/4/25 the information screen had a fault, they didn’t take the car back in until the 8/5/25 where it was confirmed new screen was needed, this was then not replaced until the end of May.
June internal looking system failed, booked in for the 7th August fault confirmed and parts ordered. 7th September no communication received, 6th October car booked in after chasing. Update at 5pm fault not fixed still without a car advised will keep over night.

They have now had the car for 7 months and out of those 6 months of this my car was sat outside in Glynn Hopkins car park with nothing being done and no communication!

Car is still in the garage been driving a Nissan Juke for 7-8months now whilst paying for a brand new Nissan Qashqai.
7 months later the car is still there after numerous emails and calls no one answers or calls back.
Now being told on Wednesday this week after totally dismantling the internal structure of the car for the third time they have located and fixed the fault. I advised the caller I am not happy to have the car back as it feels unsafe due to the amount of issues for a new car who said he would look into it.

However no further communication until a threatening email today stating if I do not collect my car and return the hire by Tuesday I will be charged for them keeping my vehicle and insurance will be cancelled. This is disgusting customer service and breach of the 2015 consumers rights act.

I responded to the email 10 minutes later asking for a manager to call me immediately and still no response yet again!

I will never buy a Nissan again or any vehicle from Glynn Hopkins and neither will my family and friends and hopefully no one who reads this.

new electric car user

We recently purchased a BYD Seal U from the Chelmsford branch and had a fantastic experience from start to finish.

We were looked after by Jordan, who was absolutely lovely. She struck the perfect balance—offering help and guidance when needed, while also giving us the space to explore at our own pace. Her intuitive and professional approach made the whole process feel relaxed and enjoyable.

We had the opportunity to test drive two models, which really helped us make an informed decision. We’ve come away very impressed with BYD as a brand—the quality, attention to detail, and level of luxury across the vehicles is outstanding.

We’ll definitely be recommending BYD to friends and family, and in particular the Chelmsford branch and Jordan.

Thank you again for such a great experience!

Mr Nirmal Singh, Ipswich is the best.

I made an enquiry about a car I needed. As I didn’t have a reliable means of transport at the time, Mr Nirmal Singh, a very brilliant and polite sales man offered to pick me up from my house for further discussions. He subsequently dropped me back at my house after the deal was done. I am glad the company has someone like him in their trade. He deserves a pay rise. Very brilliant man he is. I would highly recommend Glyn Hopkin group for anyone looking for a hustle free buy.

Very poor customer service at Kia Colchester

I found Kia Colchester’s customer service to be very poor. On 26 March I reported a warranty issue with our Sportage and heard nothing back. A couple of weeks later we called to follow up and the person told us he was just standing in as holiday cover and couldn’t help. So far today we have called three times to get an update. Have been put on hold twice and after waiting 15 minutes listening to the most annoying repeating recorded sales pitch (on a loop!) we ended the call. Phoned again and were left again. Was promised an “urgent” call from a manager but were still waiting. This is our first Kia purchase after buying Fords for 40 plus years with excellent customer service. Disappointed is an understatement!

VERY BAD ACCOUNTS DEPARTMENT

Unable to leave zero stars, agreed a part exchange deal with Nissan Ipswich to which they were to refund to me £2500 as my car was worth more than the car I bought, they took my £1000 deposit to hold the car I bought which they took immediately. So I’m owed £3500.

That was Saturday the 11th April 2026, it’s now the 20th and I have not received my money after chasing for a week, there is no contact telephone number or Email for their accounts dept (how convenient for them) no one has contacted me from accounts.

Very unprofessional company who don’t give a shit about the customer, WILL NEVER RECOMMEND OR BUY FROM THEM AGAIN which is a shame as Jack Richardson was great to deal with but not Glyn Hopkin as a company.

Harry Gilbert at Nissan Colchester went…

Harry Gilbert at Nissan Colchester went over and beyond to be helpful, informative and very welcoming and friendly. He was upfront about costings and helped with all the paperwork that goes with buying a car. I'm hoping that my time with Nissan Colchester service department will continue to be as easy as it was with him. A big thank you Harry

Appalling experience with Nissan UK and…

Appalling experience with Nissan UK and Glyn Hopkin. Defective product (Nissan). Defective systems (not sure whether a Nissan problem or a Glyn Hopkin problem) - systems down and inability to make appointments. When systems are functioning, there is a fundamental lack of diagnostic capacity to be able to receive a e-car that would not start - I.e left us with no vehicle. No effort to assist. No effort to solve. No room at the inn. The lack of diagnostic capacity is a key issue - either the Nissan product is defective at large or there is underinvestment in the network - but the impact is on the customer and neither the manufacturer (Nissan) or the dealer (Glyn Hopkin) demonstrate any care at all. Neither Nissan or Glyn Hopkin assisted in solving the original problem - and then - after the car was “repaired” and I collected and drove the car home - I discovered a new fault (the camera systems were not working) - I.e the repairs were not carried out correctly and adequate QC checks were not conducted. Nissan and Glyn Hopkin are the worst automotive experience I have ever had and I urge you to avoid both.

Faulty New MG purchase not refunded

I collected a new MG HS PHEV 31 Dec 2025 from Glyn Hopkin Watford. It had a serious fault which was not then readily fixed, so I requested a full refund in accordance with Consumer Rights Act 2015. I've been repeatedly assured the full refund would be with me shortly but as at 18th April I still await reimbursement.

Reassured about safety defect before purchase — then ignored after formal complaint

Before purchasing my MG4 from Glyn Hopkin Milton Keynes in September 2024, I raised concerns about Which? magazine reports of lane assist problems. My sales adviser reassured me in writing that all MG4 systems were operating as designed.

From delivery, the lane assist behaved dangerously — steering toward oncoming traffic and cutting out without warning. Having lost confidence in the vehicle’s safety, I sold it two months later at a loss of over £6,000.

I have since discovered that MG issued a Service Campaign addressing exactly these faults, developed with the Vehicle Certification Agency. Despite my formal complaint in December 2025, I have received no substantive response from Glyn Hopkin in over four months.

Visited Glyn Hopkin Mill Hill to view an MG IM5 advertised as ex-demo for sale. Confirmed details over several emails and arrived to find one of their staff (Simon Bray?) had taken it for a trip to East Anglia that morning. The only reason this is a 2 star review and not 1 star was how apologetic the embarrassed sales rep was.

Unbelievable bad experience

Oh my, where to begin!!

Collected my HS PHEV (74 plate with approximately 10,000 miles on the clock) on Thursday 15th January, purchased for just under £24000. I received a call from the Sales Manager the day before to check that I was still coming down from Norfolk (2 hour drive) as arranged

On the 15th I arrived at dealer at 11.00 am and presented myself to the salesman who was de as ling with the transaction. After a brief discussion the salesman disappeared to arrange the paperwork. After a 30 minute wait he returned to advise that they were having difficulty finding the V5 document. A further 30 minutes passed and just as they were about to pop into town to obtain a V62 document, required if you need a new replacement V5, they finally found it.

15 minutes into drive home an orange (cruise control malfunction) light appears in driver display. I pulled over and restarted the car. Warning light disappeared. I put this to a temporary glitch and hoped it was a one off. Arrived home and warning light came on again. This time it remained on for a number of days and none of the cruise control functions worked. To compound this various other car functions stopped working (park control radar, welcome home lights, wireless phone charging). By now I had lost all confidence in the car which I believe was not checked properly prior to sale. As such, and and under the umbrella of the 2015 consumer rights act, i contacted the dealership within 30 days and rejected the car as unfit for purpose and requested full refund and also requested that Glyn Hopkin collect car once refund was paid. A lack of response ensued which left me no alternative but to issue a claim through the county court. Prior to this I instructed my solicitor to write to them to try and obtain a response. All I received was standard response probably draw from ChatGBT! Just before potentially going to court they eventually agreed to pay the full refund and the court fees (£1200). They collected car a few days later

This was a torturous process with a total lack of service and communication. I stopped driving the car on the 9th February and only received refund into my account on the 31st March. Nearly 8 weeks without a car when it should have all been sorted out in a couple of weeks.

If buying from this dealer ensure that you are given a full multi point inspection report on ALL car functions and make sure everything is in full working order. If you have any issues call Sales Manager in first instance. If no response within a reasonable timeframe look up MG franchise director or MD of Glyn Hopkin and email or call them

It really is a case of appalling customer service from a dealership that have not got a clue! Bottom line is that you should steer clear of them

Frustrating & underwhelming

This is the most frustrating and underwhelming car purchases I have ever made. Non-existent communication, and multiple requests for standard information were not responded to. Either the sales team are overworked/short staffed/badly managed or not managed at all.

Either way, it does not fill me with confidence that the after-sales will be any better. Perhaps it’s not the fault of the young guys on the shop floor, they obviously need proper training, which should come from above.

After going through the paperwork post-delivery I found the Service book was not stamped, the cars service reset was not done, there was no receipt for final payment proving that I ever purchased the car, or the illusive used car warranty, and despite being assured that the car has Apple CarPlay I have found out it does not and the cost to have this installed is £342+VAT at a Volvo dealership.

A really disappointing experience for a big-ticket item, after my test drive experience my trust in the ability of the staff to make this buying experience a pleasure soon ebbed away. Whilst I appreciate the delivery of the car on sales chaps’ day off, this can’t be good for long-term staff morale.

There doesn’t seem to be a delivery promise/process that gives peace of mind to the customer, forcing me to make multiple update calls with vague responses. Surely, it should be the other way around in this age of simple communication.
