I had an event cancelled last minute…

I had an event cancelled last minute (literally 2am on the day of the event) back in August and emailed 4 times since to chase up rebooting and had literally no response. Now forced to take further legal action avoid this company at all costs!

Cancelled on us last minute

Booked months in advance. Booked a hotel to attend this, heard nothing until late the night before the event. They messaged saying it was cancelled due to low bookings. Offered to rebook, but I didn't want to risk this happening again. It seems to be something they do often, looking at other reviews. If they had warned us earlier I could have cancelled my hotel, as they would have known a lot earlier that they would cancel. Please do not use this company, it was so disappointing after looking forward to this for so long, as it was also for a special occasion.

Edit. Did not reply to any emails asking when I would receive a refund, instead had to do a charge back through the bank. Avoid.

Do not use or trust this company

Ghost Hunt UK is a company which organises paranormal investigations at venues across the UK. Myself and my friend Sarah had already been on two investigations booked through Ghost Hunt UK and had a really positive experience. So much so we wanted to book more. I immediately spotted on their Facebook page an advert for one of our bucket list locations, 30 East Drive Pontefract. The date of the event was advertised as 22nd August 2025 which is my birthday. On 8th November 2024 I paid a £45 deposit to Ghost Hunt UK for myself, my partner Jak and my friend Sarah to book our places for the investigation. This is a very popular location with limited spaces therefore it is normal to book so far in advance. My work friend Matt wanted to join our group so I paid another £15 deposit on the same date for him. The entire balance due was cleared on £260 on 19th November 2025. As we are four hours drive away I booked a hotel for us and also dinner at a pub 5 mins drive from the location

After some time I realised I never received any email confirmation and I could not find details of the event. On 5th July 2025 I contacted the Ghost Hunt UK by Facebook messenger to confirm the booking.

I did not receive a response so on 16th July 2025 I contacted Ghost Hunt UK again by Facebook messenger to chase a response and also sent a message on WhatsApp. I received a message by Facebook messenger the same day advising I would be contacted within the hour with details of the booking.

I never received the confirmation of booking and on 17th July 2025 I sent another message as a chaser. I received a response same day with an apology and they advised they would have a look.

I still did not receive the requested confirmation of booking so on 23rd July 2025 I sent another chaser. A response was received same day confirming the booking.

On 16th August 2025 it was coming up to the day of the event. When the booking confirmation details were confirmed it only included our names, date and location. The event had been removed from the website so I wanted to confirm the start and finish time. I sent a message asking for this information.

I received a response on 19th August 2025 to confirm emails will be going out that day with this information.

I checked my email inbox and junk inbox and nothing received so on 20th August 2025 I sent a message to advise I had not received the email and asked if these have been sent.

I did not receive a response. On 21st August 2025 I asked for an update as we would be travelling most of the day on 22nd August. I received a response swiftly after informing that the date needs to be moved and emails will be sent shortly. They confirmed they were waiting to hear. I messaged back and asked them to let me know as soon as possible as we had hotel and dinner booked. They again confirmed date needed to be moved. I messaged again asking for a reason because I was notified at such short notice and I booked in November 2024. They responded to advise they were speaking to the venue and I responded that I would wait to hear.

At this point I let my partner and my friends know as Ghost Hunt UK had failed to notify them the current situation. My partner messaged Ghost Hunt UK on WhatsApp as he was concerned. He asked to confirm the reason why the booking couldn't go ahead and the company admitted fault. They explained that the payment to the venue failed so the venue gave the date to someone else. He asked Ghost Hunt UK for a refund of the booking and the hotel which they accepted they would action.

Everyone received an email at 2am on 22nd August 2025 confirming cancellation of the event and it was confirmed in the email that the booking would either be refunded or issued a credit note at twice the value.

My partner requested a refund of the booking fee and the cost of the hotel on 21st August 2025 and despite Ghost Hunt UK confirming they would honor this, they were not forthcoming.

My partner chased the refund on 27th August 2025 and he was advised to give 14 days for investigation as per their policy which he did.

He contacted Ghost Hunt UK on 5th September 2025 to chase the outcome of the investigation and they confirmed he would receive an email that day. No email was ever received.

I've since been trying to get the full booking fee returned which has been a nightmare. I've only had £45 directly refunded from Ghost Hunt UK through disputed transactions with my bank. I was refunded £150 by PayPal through 3 transaction disputes from my bank but they are now saying I owe this money - which is a whole different problem.

We were all so disappointed & upset when they confirmed it would not be going ahead. My birthday was ruined. If they had issued the refund as promised I may have continued to use them but this has turned into a mess and I will never use this company again. Please save your money.
