My husband went to the Leavenworth location to remove himself from our family membership for a military transfer. He was told he just needed to sign paperwork for his removal — instead, staff had him sign a brand new contract in my name, raising my dues from $109.75 to $158.55/month plus a $21.87 fee, totaling a $174.95 charge.

The club manager admitted this was a billing error within 24 hours and promised I wouldn’t be charged. Genesis charged me anyway. Their district manager confirmed the error weeks ago and said a refund was being processed — I’m still waiting, with no refund and no written update.

Years of nonstop construction at the Hickman Genesis location, a group fitness room that’s dangerously hot, and staff issues that never get addressed. Cancelation of a favorite class and instructor, which is the only resson i went there through the mess. Management shows zero concern for member safety or satisfaction.Trying to cancel was a pain intentionally difficult and completely inappropriate.Genesis Health Clubs has become a case study in how not to operate a gym. Don't waste your money.

they have no interest in customer satisfaction. customer online portal does not allow membership suspension or cancellation. it does allow to cancel a paid for trainer session but they do not tell the gym. when you suspend membership in person and confirm they ignore and charge full membership and when you text them they blank you. they up sell aggressively completely unsuitable training packages

It has been more than a year that they have not fixed their Ac and heat unit. Extremely hot during summer and cold in winter time. Unbelievable that they are not willing to fix the problem.

The staff is honestly tremendous for what they have to put up daily at this location - they get 5 stars. The facility itself should be shut down. There's been human waste in the 3rd floor urinal for two weeks now and the black mold and flies are returning to the bathroom along with ever growing moist stains on the locker room floor. If something breaks it might not ever get fixed ask a couple of the stair steppers there. The A/C and heat go out at literally the worst times, there's only two working drinking fountains in the entire gym and the others have been broken for years now! Seriously?! how hard is it to fix ONE drinking fountain. Additionally, the hot water was out for nearly two weeks in late 2024 and that was probably the 3rd time it had been out that year! Since the last "repair" the water AT BEST gets kind of warm in one of the showers. Lately the new fun thing is the washers breaking down so there are no towels, so not only do you get a freezing cold shower, you also get to air dry!! What fun! Oh did I mention the power was out last week one morning! Their new location hasn't been touched in months by construction crews and it's been pitch black in there ever since, so that new location isn't coming any time soon. Clearly genesis recognizes their monopoly here which is why not only has nothing changed it's gotten worse.

UPDATE: This is the current state of the Men's Shower area, it may actually make you less healthy to go to this location given there is black mold on the ceiling that will just get painted over.

SECOND UPDATE! They finally got that second location open and it's almost worse!! and now they're RAISING THEIR PRICE. It's time someone go to the local news about the abhorrent treatment of their paying customers. Raw sewage and gas smells, no working toilets, dozens of broken machines, awful hours and still asking for more and more money.

This has been my ongoing reviews of the midtown location for the last year or so. Genesis is a corrupt dishonest corporation that snaps up every available location they can and then let that location fall into a total state of dis-repair. Local news stations need to investigate them for putting peoples health at risk with the horrible sanitation. Not to mention their EVER INCREASING prices for seemingly less premium service. They are a complete joke and should all be shut down.

I joined Genesis Fitness Group in Maidstone, Melbourne. They asked for a lead and harassed my son to the point he singed up. He never attended the gym and they sent him a $800.00 bill. I had a no lock in contract. I cancelled after 3 months due to ill health, 6 months later I received a bill for $900.00. They constantly up-sell and get nasty if you refuse. Very pushy and make a false contracts in your name. Stay away from this gym. They are not normal.

Charles Wiggians, the regional manager at the Lawrence Kansas locations lied about the cancellation process and never proceeded with it. I informed him mid march that I am moving beginning of May and that I would like for April to be my last month. Chaz said that the process is digital now and that I'll receive an email to sign. I kept inquiring about this the whole month of April asking about it. I also emailed last week of April asking if it's easier/if it's an option to sign a paper cancellation and that I could come in. I never received a reply and got charged for the month of May. I reached out to him again requesting a refund and never heard back. I called the member service desk and the lady on the phone didn't believe me and was of no help. I also emailed Jose Riveros twice without a response. Extremely unprofessional, I had to go through the process of disputing with the bank. Would never recommend them to anyone and will never be back.

Once again, totally enjoying my favorite-ever gym, re-established now as Genesis of Lexington, KY, Wellington Way. Well equipped and well managed, including by a new Lady-In-Charge, Gretchen, who is gracious, innovative, and highly efficient, Genesis is a real pleasure to visit each day and I join many others in finding the best possible workout. I came to Genesis for the first time with a friend. Didn't know much about them, really. Upon entering the facility they wanted me to sign a "waiver" with ALL my personal information: name, phone, email, address, sex, and signature just to enter and begin a tour. I told them "absolutely not". So the guy gave me a tour without it.

Interesting.

It was a nice gym. Not the best I've seen, but it was okay. So they sat down with me a went over pricing. They cut me a deal. I told them I was of interest. He handed me an ipad with their portal for entry pulled up. He had me sign the waiver and at that point I was willing to give my information. But it was the waiver. Okay, done. Then they wanted me to fill out a hard copy paper sheet with my friends and families names and numbers. I said, "No, I can't. That's highly private/secure information I am not at liberty to share." This is when I FULLY regretted filling out their waiver. (Is everyone reading catching onto their order of business here?)

Okay, more red flags kept appearing. In anticipation of my signing up, they wanted me to then give them a PHOTO COPY OF MY DEBIT CARD and my DL. No paperwork. Nothing. Just hand them my cards. They guy stood up and said, "I'll go make a copy." I said, "absolutely not". I was thinking, "what world do you live in??" I told him I'd done business my whole life and I've never been asked to do that with anyone. I told them that is a totally corrupt business model and that they need to offer me a completely encrypted private and secured portal -- or no deal. So the guy went into the office, left me with his ipad which had their portal pulled up (with my information preloaded in it) reportedly spoke with his regional manager or officer, and they said he'd let me just fill it out online and that he'd "push it through without the photo of your card". So then he wanted me to write my card number down on paper so he could hand it to a woman behind the reception desk, copy it, and then shred it in front of me. He said, "I'll do it all in front of you." I said, "absolutely not". I told him everything should be encrypted on their portal. He admitted it was a shady practice but had no control over it. I also asked them about cancellation policies. They said they required 30 days. I had to come in person and sign at the desk.

Interesting.

So he went back into the office and left me standing there for a good 10 minutes. He came back and said, "The offers on the table just for today. Will you come back?" I handed the ipad back to him after having closed out all their browsers. No deal. And I replied, "If you see me, then I'm back." And I walked out.

Long story short, I never signed up or gave them my money. It was clearly a fraudulent business. I would not trust them or even go near them. I went home, did some research on the owners. All it took was 5 minutes for me to discover how wicked, crooked, and disgusting these people are. The Stevens family in Wichita, KS is corrupt to the core - and so is Genesis. There is a truckload of information on law suits, corrupt practices, all the way to the top of the legislature in Kansas. These are sick people. Stay away from this place. The Red Flags were glaring. And they were everywhere.

I feel sorry for the people who fall for this -- even wealthy people. There's a lot of sheep out there. When it comes to Genesis -- Don't follow the herd.

I worked for Genesis and was extremely disappointed by how I was treated.
During my time there, I experienced unprofessional behavior from management and a toxic work culture that does not reflect the values they claim to uphold.
When I raised concerns about unprofessional conduct, instead of taking it seriously, I was let go shortly afterward.
I believe this was retaliation for speaking up, and it left me feeling disrespected and unsupported.

If you’re considering working with or for this company, I’d urge you to pay close attention to how they treat their employees and handle internal issues. My experience was very negative, and I wouldn’t recommend Genesis based on how they handled my situation.

The Genesis Gym, on Harry Street in Wichita, Kansas is being sued by me. I will in fact sue them for deceptive trade practices. These people, need to be exposed for who they really are and not who they try to portray themselves to be. This is wrong. The Manager is being sued directly. Julian, Macy will have a page on my website, and I do not give a shit who likes it or not. I will even expose text messages. As, I gave him thousands of dollars, and This guy is a con man. This is in reference to Genesis health club Brownwood Square the villages Florida. They have closed down their website and telephone. Yet they still charge my credit card. I’m not sure if they’re going to permanent close or what is exactly going on. They did this suddenly without prior notification of their members. Very bad form! 

This company has dishonest cancellation policies which somehow favour them while completely ripping you off. The gym is crowded and uncomfortable. Do yourself a favor and go elsehwhere!

I am definitely pleased with my Forever Fit class and the instructors I have had at the Manhattan, KS, facility. However, management seems to put little priority on maintenance of this fairly new building. During and after winter storms, there was no snow or ice removal from the parking lot or sidewalks, water-stained ceiling tiles go for months before replacement, and lines in the parking lot are so faded that parking is a free-for-all.

Fraudulent practices fraudsters at their best. I was clearly told my account was not an auto payment account yet they still started charging me monthly I was charged fraudulently for almost 4 months when I was there for only a month

I’ve never encountered such poor customer service. I signed up for a membership, and just three days later, they canceled it without any notice or explanation. When I asked why, I was met with rude responses and no solutions. To make matters worse, they refuse to refund me for the days I didn’t even get to use the gym. Avoid this place if you don’t want to deal with dishonest management and unfriendly staff.

Charged me a full month fee PLUS $10/month to "pause" my membership for a last minute 4-week business trip. So I would pay a full month PLUS $10 so that I can NOT use your gym? They require 30 days notice before you pause your membership - just predatory.

"But you agreed to it in your contract!" Despicable. As a business owner myself I would never treat my customers this way. But our business doesn't prey on college students and the poor.

Just horrible and predatory. These practices should be illegal. A stain on our community.

I have waited MORE THAN 30 DAYS for the Genesis Health FRAUDSTERS to refund $1,386.12 charged to my credit card erroneously (fraudulently?), and I am filing a formal complaint with Consumer Protection and taking them to Small Claims Court in my state ... STAY AWAY from these CROOKS !!!

Some people don’t like the steep price and for that I’m knocking them a star, but at least in Orlando their gym is the best in the area. As far as facilities go, it is massive and has great equipment. I’m pretty sure it’s the largest gym in Orlando. Their basketball courts are great as well.
