Great Customer Service
I was given a floating beam by a friend that was made by this company. The beam was exactly what I’d wanted to go above my fireplace. It was beautiful oak and very heavy and well made. Alas my friend didn’t have the original fixings but I managed to obtain these no problem at all from The Funky Chunky Furniture Company and they were despatched to me incredibly quickly. All excellent.

Beautiful solid oak shelving
Beautiful solid oak shelving! I’m so impressed with the quality of the wood and how it looks in my alcove. So much better than a standard bookcase, as it makes brilliant use of the space.
I ordered five 19x4cm floating shelves and they arrived well-wrapped and protected. Unfortunately, the bolts were missing from one of the parcels, but my husband drove to the Jarrow warehouse (luckily we live nearby) and they were hugely apologetic, providing a box of bolts immediately.
The pre-drilled holes made installation quite straightforward and we watched the help video first, to make sure we got it right first time.
I then used a natural oak stain on the shelves and gave them two coats.
We finished the look with COB strip lighting to provide a warm glow in the recesses.
Overall, I was so impressed, I immediately made another purchase for the kitchen. Since then, I’ve ordered more for another alcove!
Highly recommend these oak shelves for affordable quality.

I am very impressed with my floating shelf. It is a beautiful high quality product. Attaching it to the wall was quite tricky due to the weight of then shelf but the fixing are holding it nicely on the wall. I would definitely recommend this company to a friend. I had no problems with the delivery of the product and was kept up to date with the progress.

Quality is second to none
Quality is second to none. I receieved the solid oak mantle, shelf and the rustic shelf.
All products were incrdedible qaulity and the texture in the wood is just beautiful.
In feedback to the timescale, i expected a little longer than your "standard" 2-5 business days because its handmade! This takes time so for me, the 10 days or so taken for the product to arrive is exactly what i would expect.
Already got my second order in the basket.

Stunning looking mantle beam
Website was great and easy to find the mantle beam I was looking for. It was easy to choose the exact dimensions I needed. Beam was delivered within the time frame stated and looks much better than I had imagined, couple of knots and the grain throughout gave the item alot of character and looks great now mounted. I have experienced excellent customer after sales service, this is rare these days. Prompt replies to emails. I had a small issue with my beautiful item which was resolved quickly no fuss. To add to this the item I received was beautifully made. A bit of a wait for the product but this is because it's 'made to order' so to be expected. Would recommend, price also reasonable.

Disappointing product quality and poor after-sales support
I purchased one of the oak beams and was extremely disappointed by both the product quality and the response when I raised concerns.
Within a very short period after delivery, the beam developed a substantial split running through the timber. This was not a small cosmetic crack or surface checking. The split opened enough that there was a visible gap through the beam, extending from the top face down the front and continuing along the length of the timber. In places the crack was wide enough to clearly see through. I wish I could post photos as part of this review as I can't describe in a way that does this justice.
I contacted the company expecting this would be treated as a fault. Instead, I was told the split was within their "expected tolerances" for air-dried oak and that it did not affect structural integrity.
While I appreciate that natural timber can contain knots, character marks and minor movement, I do not believe most customers would expect a decorative beam to develop a deep open split of this size shortly after purchase, or ever, without the help of an axe.
The company did offer a refund, but only if I paid to return the beam myself. Given that these beams are extremely heavy, the return cost is significant. This leaves customers in the position of either absorbing the return costs or keeping a product they are unhappy with.
My biggest frustration is not that timber can move—it's that a beam can develop such a substantial split and still not be considered defective by the seller. Had I known this level of splitting would be regarded as acceptable, I would have purchased elsewhere.
If you are looking for a company that honour substantial deviances from reasonable customer expectation of quality, I would run for the hills on this one.

As we explained during our correspondence, the beam was manufactured from solid air-dried oak, a natural material that will continue to move, dry and develop character as it acclimatises to its environment. This can include splits, checks, cracks and other rustic features, some of which can be more pronounced than others. Based on the photographs provided, we did not consider the movement shown to be outside of our advertised expectations or indicative of a manufacturing fault.
We appreciate that your personal expectations differed from our product specification, but we were transparent throughout in explaining why the beam had behaved as it had and why we did not classify it as defective.
We also offered you the opportunity to return the beam for a refund. As this was not being treated as a faulty return, the return carriage costs remained the responsibility of the customer, in line with our published returns policy.
Whilst we appreciate that natural oak furniture is not suitable for everyone, thousands of customers specifically choose our products because of the unique character, movement and individuality that solid timber develops over time.
We're sorry that on this occasion the product did not meet your expectations.

I wouldn’t order from here
I wouldn’t order from here, they sent 2 shelves that were completely different colours and one was damp and mouldy, refused to replace or refund so I would avoid, £100 down the drain!!
Said it was our fault for not opening the package as soon as it arrived, yet they don’t advertise that clearly, 1 line at the bottom of an email in delivery notes or a piece of paper already wrapped within the shelves is not well advertised! And as it was only one shelf that was mouldy it was clear it’s been packaged while it was wet, so disappointed as was really excited to put these up in the kitchen! Very poor customer service
