I filed both Federal and State. Price and accuracy are great. I did my taxes in parallel w/ TurboTax and got the same numbers. So why just 3 stars? Because they don't support IL-2210, whic... See more

Filed taxes for my granddaughter on this tax sight, and she has not received her refund. I was also charged money to do PA taxes. She hasn't got her refund back. When checking with IRS where is my refund, it says don't recognize this information. What a nightmare. Tbey need to be shut down with a class action lawsuit

I’m having a terrible time with Freetax USA . I follow both my federal and New Jersey state tax with them. When submitting my New Jersey state tax an error message came up, saying something went wrong. Not knowing what it happened. I went through the whole process again with my State Taxes hit submit and accepted it. What wound up happening is I paid my New Jersey state 2024 taxes twice because of the glitch in their website. $845. There is nobody for me to talk to. I’ve tried to get in touch with them. There’s just no way to get in touch with them their chat freezes every time I try to talk to somebody they refuse to talk to me on the phone. They double billed me their charges at 1499 and I paid the state twice. I have no support and no help from this website to recover my funds. The first answer I got was called the state. It’s my problem. I would not recommend this or ever use this website again.

We are going in the world of AI. I have been able to download items to a floppy disc since at least 2000. This company has no record of ny tax return from 2016. I can't even log in because the software doesn't recognize me. How can a well known company that's been in business for how many years and they don't have a way to access old returns. Make that make sence!!!

I had used them for years, but this past year it was really disappointing. However, I had to file a late and an amended return and that is where the issues began. I am still trying to file an amended 2024 Federal return and already paid the additional amount of tax due and upgraded my service so I could get additional support. I had already made the corrections and double checked the amounts and IRS will direct debit. I still have to mail it in and could not get a final downloaded copy. Hopefully tomorrow will better but I am not optimistic.
Will pay my state tax today (Due May 1st) but will have to file an extension if I can even do that on their site. Some of the navigation on the site are not intuitive, and at this point going forward I'll just have a professional prepare it. I retired last year and am willing to pay someone more to avoid the hassle. I would have given two and one-half stars but didn't know how to do that.
UPDATE: The “replies” seemed to be “canned”. I am thinking it is AI. The extension is for my state return (which I do not need- VA automatically grants a six month extension (November 1st) I can actually file a 2024 federal amended return on the IRS website. I have already created an account and at first review it appears much simpler than going through FreeTax USA.

At first, it seemed like really good software until I needed support from a tax preparation agent versus just general support. I paid for general support at 7.99 and then in order to get to pro support they told me that I had to click through all of the pages of the filing, including the state filing in order to access the pro support option.
But that meant either leaving a whole bunch of stuff blank, or filling in the information wrong and having to remember and review and go back and figure out what it was, so after spending an insane amount of time clicking through all the pages just to get to the pro support option, it wasn’t available because I’m doing back taxes.
So they told me that I would have to go back through and do that whole thing for tax filing within 2023 or 2024. I’ve wasted about two hours just trying to get support.

This is a horrendous online tax filing service. I just read multiple posts describing the same problem I had using the FreeTaxUSA site. After doing both state and federal data input for my return, it gets rejected due to not knowing the previous years tax AGI (adjusted gross income). I don't have that information because my return was not done on old school paper that I could have looked at to provide the AGI. But.. they still charged for the state return to be sent to a third party banking system. I didn't submit and file anything as it was rejected. Plus the total refund amount was completely off by about $600. I went right back to my Turbo Tax I have used over a decade and had zero issues, zero filing rejection, and my banking information was clear and visible for direct deposit. They are stealing from people, low balling the return amounts, and collecting banking information that is not even what they are going to use, but charge $40 for non refundable nonsense.

I'm unemployed so needed to choose a free tax software via the government website that listed several tax partners. Out of about 8 options there were only two choices for me based on my state and income and whether I wanted to pay for state filing, (uh, no) and so I watched a review on each service by a young lady on Youtube. She hated the other one and liked FreeTaxUSA so I trusted her and chose them. Best decision!
Everything was clear and easy except for the the charitable donations section which I had to delete and start over. The keywords on the clickable boxes just weren't as clear as they could have been and it kept taking me to the same charity instead of allowing me to input another one. I deleted and started over and then was able to get through it with no problems. That was a very small problem compared to how easy it all was.
Not sure if they have a paid option so we could use them instead of the ever-increasing price of TurboTax, but if they offered one, I would use them. For now, if you are low income, absolutely use them. I noticed in the past few years that TurboTax was unclear on some points, but every time I clicked the "info" circle on FreeTaxUSA, it told me everything I needed to know. Never once left me in a lurch. It's quite possibly even clearer than TurboTax. Don't hesitate!

FreeTaxUsa.com has become a real downer. Site malfunctions, customer service is terrible at understand true concerns (or even trying), and online representatives supply generic, scripted responses that don't even acknowledge the customer's issues. Go elsewhere.

I used Turbo Tax for many years but because of the increase in fees I tried FreeTaxUSA 8 years ago. GREAT decision! I've never had any problems with filing and my husband is self employed so taxes can sometimes be tricky. No problem with FTUSA. VERY easy to follow; both federal and state get done at the same time and it's a nominal fee for state filing. I highly recommend!

Very responsive customer service!
I had an issue with a return I did through FreeTaxUSA and they responded to my emails very quickly.

FreeTaxUSA is the best tax-preparation software I have used. I filed my federal and state returns with self-employed business income and a few other forms most people don't use quickly and easily with zero cost.

Don't use them they have zero integrity.
They overcharged me by over 300.
Then wanted to charge me to fix it.

I had used Turbo Tax the last two years, My returns are no longer complicated, Decided to try FreeTaxUSA. It is very basic platform, All went well until I went to file My return was rejected, To get help, I had to pay for service. Followed their instructions to TRY to navigate their platform, No luck, Second time with their PRO. Rejected again, their time with their PRO. This guy steered me to the IRS. I am into this over 5 hour. No one to call, Just a Chat line. I had had it, I went back to Turbo Tax, Was done in 45 minutes, They directed me to file by mail as they said that the IRS wouldn't help with glitch, NOW Why didn't FreeTax USA tell me that. I am demanding a Refund, I stand by my report on this company, Oh as of 3/22 I have not received a refund. If my return would have been accepted I would have been fine BUT mine wasn't, with NO fault of my own and This company was NO HELP in resolving the problem.

First, is they don't let you review them at their website. The reviews are probably phony. Second, they do a great job with Federal returns. Third, they're terrible on state returns. I found it impossible to see what deductions they reported until I paid the fee and submitted the state tax return. Once I could see it, they missed a number of deductions they should of got like my age. So now I'm waiting until I can file an amended return.

The software did not input my complete bank account number, and I only found out after it was filed with the IRS. I then tried to make sure it was correct for my state return, but low and behold, they printed the same incomplete bank number. So I have to wait for a check from the IRS and from my state. Ever since it was possible to file one's own taxes over the internet, I have been using online software to file my own taxes. I HAVE NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM BEFORE! Not only will it take longer to receive my refunds, but there is also the risk that someone could steal the checks. Last year, I filed my taxes for free on the state website, and two years ago I used the IRS site. No problem at all. I will be using those again next year instead of screw you for "FreeTaxUSA."
Their reply is bs because had I been able to enter the number twice, it would have recognized that it was not entered correctly the first time if it was my fault. Also, I tried to correct it before I submitted my state return, but the corrections was ultimately not accepted.

I have done our taxes with them for several years. This year they totally screwed up and our state tax was wrong. I spent hours on the phone trying to figure out what was wrong and correct it. They offered no help and I will not be using them again. I have been doing our taxes for years and never had this much trouble. They are inefficient and very had to connect with when I have questions. DO NOT USE THEM!

Need to update formulas and algorithms; comparing with OLT, filing 1 w2 the refund is really small compared with OLT. Takes your IT group along with an accountant and fix it
