Spammers

Got a spam message from them today... Never heard of this messy forum, but got mail with weird formatting and advertisement of some "You can win" prizes...

Use Forumotion as a forum, not as a sales website

If you’re going to start a forum that requires paying for and you’re completely in charge of then go private with one of the big names. My recommendation is FastComet.

Forumotion isn’t designed for you to have complete control of, it’s free and around 13% of the ads come from the server end so you can’t stop them. It’s a consequence of getting the forum for free. No one is going to provide you with a free forum to sell your stuff on and not want anything in return. Remember, a forum isn’t a website to sell stuff, it’s a place of discussion for shared interests.

The upside is that you can leave your forum at any time and come back years later and it will still be there at no cost to you. So basically, it depends what you’re looking for as to whether you choose free forumotion or pay for a website.

After years of using phpBB2, I recently updated to BB3 and started again. As I’m not selling anything, it’s ideal for the purpose it’s intended for.

Can never reach them

Is there anyway to get in contact with them?
All of a sudden I can't log in, and I am trying to change my password, but their site won't recognize my email address. It is like the forum have been hijacked by them, for the sole purpose of promoting their advertisement. Is there a way they can contact me please? I would like for them to assist me in deleting the forum, "Happiness vs, Contentment." Please tell them to contact me.
Thank You!

You send them an email, and they don't even respond to you.

What more do you want for free?

I’ve had a half-hearted forumotion forum for several years and made it into a blog. What you get for free is a forum that works.

Pros: It’s free.
PhpBB2 gives you access to make changes to the html and css code, so you can change the old transitional doctype content into html5.

Cons: It belongs to someone else, so it’s at a third party’s discretion.
The themes are outdated.
It’s full of adverts and forumotion self promotion links which come from the server end so you can’t stop it.

I’ll give it four stars because what you got for free is not what you’d expect using the open source version, which is a very basic set-up and is going to require a paid for expert to set it up to your requirements. Don’t expect a paid for v bulletin set-up for free.

Searching for a new forum

Searching for a new forum, either free or one I outright own, after reading the above reviews, I definitely will not use 'Forumotion'

It amazes me that in this day and age companies still think they can treat people bad, and get away with it, are you kidding me?
In the age of social media, companies better wise up, cause now consumers have a voice and can effect your future prosperity with our reviews....wise up.

Unfortunately Forumotion have become…

Unfortunately Forumotion have become greedy, it used to cost me around $70 AU a year for a domain name and ad removal. Just recently i went to renew all, and found you have to buy special packages which were almost double in cost from the previous year. I have moved on and found cheaper alternatives where i can host 3 forums for the price that Forumotion offers. They have a bad business model at the moment and i can see them going down the drain, it's already showing on the help forum with less and less visitors and posts by the day.

My advice? Keep away from Forumotion, there are better options out there, this is a French company is now ripping existing and a lot loyal users off.

The catch 22 changes they recently made…

The catch 22 changes they recently made has everyone who has used their services loyally like myself for the last 12 years, in a bind and a trap.… just like ning and many others, they have gotton greedy… and free forums no longer have the ability to purchase only the extras they need, but are now forced to buy a very expensive pack, especially if your in the US, just to get the basic things you could get before for a reasonable cost…. I call this kind of thing a strongarm tactic. For instance....

I built a forum in March based on everything I have been working with here for the last 12 years.... I bought the domain name, SSL, no ads, and remove copyrights... all for a new professional looking forum based on teaching, and NO REVENUE to be made here, so it's not like we were charging for anything, and it was all out our own pockets..... and based on the fact that I could have all this renewed the coming year.... Mind you this was not cheap in the first place, but affordable....

Then only one week after I put out the money, AND extensive paid promotion to get members etc..... I find out that in order to renew any of the services I now have, I must purchase a very expensive package costing me well over 100 in money, just to have the basic things I wanted.... You are now forced to basically buy it all or none, and free does not cut it anymore, especially since you can no longer buy the basics for your forums...... I have hosting that I host 4 stores, a directory, and a website from, and it only cost me 70 bucks a year.... whats up with that! This has forced me to do an about turn with the original plan and we have pretty much had to abandon the project we paid for, for another direction...
Plus altho you can do some coding etc on the platform, it's no cpanel, so why the heck would I pay them such an outragous price for a quarter of what I get for less than that with custom cpanel, installer, unlimited traffic and space etc.... why would I!.

Forumotion ?

Forumotion ?, No.. No... No.....
If you Use Forumotion, Then You Will Waste Your Life Time With This Scam Company, At First Use Are Ok, But If You Use Forumotion Till Several Month Or A Years, ( When Your Forum Become Populer and Has Many Members ), You Will Lose All Of That Memory and Business Stuff, Because The Forumotion Bugs Are Waiting And Looking At You To Make Your System Down ( Bad Server Ever ), Then You Will Lose All Contact With Your Members, Your Post Will Vanishing and Keep Crashing, and You Will Banned Many Tools and Setting That You Believed Are Free To Access at First Time, But That Just Was A Traps, You Will Need To Pay Credit ( Money ) To Able Access Again As Old Time Before, Dont Be Fooled, Trust Me.

Don't start a forum with this company

Don't start a forum with this company. At first all will be good, then they start censoring what your forum can and can't have. I'm not talking porn censoring, I'm talking about if you try to do an honest review of a product and the company in the review complains then it gets removed and shut down.
People think it's cool to start a hobby forum here and this company will shut you down and you will lose all your hard work, pictures and all information.

I've been using Forumotion for 12~…

I've been using Forumotion for 12~ years now, as a user and owner/administrator/moderator. I've owned 3 sites in total on the platform, one that achieved ~5000 members, one ~2000 and another ~1200.

It's very easy to use, rich with features and has many ways to get your forum out there without shelling out any cash or going through an overly tedious process of advertising. It is, without a doubt, the greatest free forum host available and I would highly recommend it to anyone.
