Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 133 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Customers frequently complain about unhelpful customer support, experiencing frustratingly long wait times and being transferred repeatedly across departments without ever getting clear answers to their problems. Many people also struggle with unexpected and unexplained account charges, as well as severe difficulties when attempting to resolve payment issues or contact customer service channels. Some reviewers were happy with specific branch staff, noting that individual employees provided friendly, welcoming, and professional assistance during their visits. Consumer feedback highlights that certain dedicated consultants went above and beyond to help customers navigate complex account processes and resolve issues efficiently.

As a foreign who lives in SA for almost…

As a foreign who lives in SA for almost 4 years now I can only say this was the worst BANK that I ever had account with. Every Sunday no matter what you do even if you just stay at home and don't use your card money just disappear and then on Monday morning comes back again to your account. If you have R1000 and it's your last money, on Sunday it will go away so be careful. Second very important thing, if FNB need to send money back to some other account or even worse to some other country you will wait for too long. I'm waiting now more then 40 days for FNB to return money back to USA and after 35 days they finally after 20+ emails showed me that money is stuck in between them and US Bank, at Nedbank... If I could attach my emails here I would to show you that FNB will not respond to you on emails at all. To open your account to show you the app all of that will be nice and smooth but trust me as soon as you have a problem you are going to be very angry. My advice to everyone don't use this Bank, they are scammers and they will at the end steal your money.

One star too many

Have been with FNB for at abt least 35 years. Feel quite sad but know I have to move on.
In the last year, it seems they have lost the plot.
Their system does strange things, like unjustified bank charges, double debiting credit card pmts, debiting different amounts to the statement. Internal fraud also occurred but this was resolved but still scary.
No comeback after proving bank charges unjustified. Advisors don't have answers.
Queries just left hanging. Closing my 3 accounts one by one. Others I know having similar issues.

Fraud ignored

I logged a fraudulent transaction on 2 December 2025 on the very same day the transaction happened. On my account it said “pending” and one would think FNB would simply block the transaction but no, I was told they now have to investigate where the money went despite me giving them ALL the details they requested but STILL they are investigating!!!! This happened on a virtual card which I was told for EVERY transaction you get a new CVV number. Now FNB says one a vendor has your card information the CVV remains active for 30 days. Liars!!! How are clients protected?? I’ve been a client of them for 35 YEARS!!! Now I have a good mind to close ALL my accounts with them and go to NEDBANK because I will probably NEVER get back over R25000!!!

FNB WESTVILLE BRANCH

Today ends week 3.This is like a soap opera. What a joke. Still no card because Fnb Westville Branch did not send the card to 407. How incompetent????
Does it take more than one week to reach its destination. Is the card coming from China. Reverse my charges because fnb inconvenienced me. Poor poor poor service. Such a huge institution cannot deliver a card. Shame on you. Week 4 to be continued...watch this space. Maybe I should follow up on tik tok....

I am extremely disappointed with FNB

I am extremely disappointed with FNB. I visited a branch to open a bank account, and without my consent, a consultant activated an FNB Connect SIM and data plan on my profile. Money was deducted from my account for a service I did not request.

FNB Short-Term Insurance – Extremely Disappointing and Frustrating Service

@FNBSA @FIRSTNATIONALBANK
I am extremely frustrated, devastated, and completely stranded due to FNB Short-Term Insurance’s lack of assistance. I was involved in a car accident on 16 December 2025 and immediately lodged a claim. Since then, I have received no confirmation and no meaningful updates, unless I repeatedly call and chase for answers.

I was told that I do not have a value-added product, specifically a courtesy car, despite having explicitly requested car hire to be included in my policy. I have been told this is now “under investigation,” yet days later there are still no outcomes, no timelines, and no communication. My calls are going unanswered, and I am constantly left in the dark.

I have clearly explained that I urgently need assistance as I need to travel for the festive season, but this seems to have been completely ignored. As a long-standing and loyal FNB customer, this poor communication, lack of urgency, and absence of support are unacceptable. I am deeply disappointed and expected far better from this insurer.

Very disappointing experience with FNB…

Very disappointing experience with FNB Insurance

I moved my vehicle insurance to FNB purely for the eBucks benefit, and unfortunately it turned out to be a big mistake.

I suffered flood damage to my vehicle and the claim resulted in the car being written off. From the moment the claim was lodged, communication from FNB Insurance was practically non-existent. I had to constantly follow up for updates, with little to no feedback, clarity, or sense of urgency from their side.

A write-off claim is already stressful, and the lack of communication only made the experience far worse. I expected better service from a major bank and insurer, but this fell well below acceptable standards.

I would not recommend FNB Insurance based on my experience

I am so frustrated by FNB business banking. I have been trying to resolve an issue that they created for a week and no one can give me the correct support. My business banker does not return her calls. I will not recommend them anymore.

Exceptional service from Johannes Nyoni

Today I received exceptional service from Johannes Nyoni at Primrose Square FNB. He really went an extra mile to explain how to use the app to ensure that l get the best banking experience for the product I was applying for. He is very knowledgeable about the products they offer and can give clear easy to follow instructions to clients. Moreover he was very friendly but professional throughout the interaction. Thank you for the stellar service Johannes. Happy client - Charlotte Mupfunya

Say no to losing Ebucks (vote with your wallet)

If you are tired of being messed around by FNB and them forcing you to jump through hoops for their increasingly ridiculous ebucks requirements, please vote with your wallet and switch banks. Unless we say no they are going to continue to take us for a ride.

If you lost out on ebucks this month because of the change, I implore you to switch banks and say no to en****tification.

Based on the fact that they do not offer a way to correctly montior your ebucks during the transition I think there may be a case with the Consumer Protection Act, please if you have been affected, do not let them get away with it. lodge a complaint at The NCC (National Consumer Commission)

Please copy paste this and send it far and wide.

No support available

I am trying to transfer money internationally and I keep getting an error, I have tried to reach out to support using their chat function for 3 days now without success. Laid a complaint, they apologize for the bad service but still do not resolve my issue. No way to get any support. FNB just do not care

FNB is circus.

FNB does not give useless service it's a circus.
After being sent from pillar to post with a different story every time I was eventually sent to the branch to verify my finger prints and then my problem would be resolved. This I did and I still have the same problem telling me to verify.
Contacting Customer Care means nothing they just don't reply.
To add insult to injury they could not verify me with a credit bureaus and yet when I contacted the credit bureaus they advised me that I'm not on their data base. So how they did the review only FNB will know.

Utterly Disgusted

What a useless, greedy and harmful bank. Why is it that with other banks you can get something as simple as a banking statement from a year ago, with a quick few, free clicks. But with FNB, OF COURSE you just have to pay money, because what they're best at is pocketing as much as possible from their customers in the shortest amount of time. Not to mention common instances of my account being hacked and FNB shrugging it off like it's nothing. The 'F' in FNB stands for Fraudulent, the 'N' for Never again and the 'B' for Bye, because this bank will never see me again.
