I really enjoy my Calmer by Flare. They help manage noise in crowded spaces, traffic noise when driving or walking (without compromising safety), and the annoyance of loud talkers and chewers. They do... See more

Founded in 2010 by British inventor Davies Roberts, Flare Audio spent its formative years as a pro audio manufacturer and hire company. Flare re-invented the loudspeaker, drawing praise from music industry luminaries including Jimmy Page, Jarvis Cocker, Richard Hawley and producer ‘Flood’. The company’s big innovation and mission is to minimise all types of distortion and it has developed several patent-pending technologies to achieve this. This ‘pure sound’ technology is now available in a range of award-winning earphones. In 2016, Flare launched Isolate®, its first sound-reducing product which used solid metal to block, rather than absorb sound. This innovation exceeded all expectations attracting over £2million in crowd funding and was followed up with Sleeep® ear plugs. Flare now ships to over 170 countries world-wide and has over 2 million likes on Facebook. Despite rapid growth the company maintains a strong customer focus. Flare’s team is dedicated to rethinking sound technology ‘from the ground up’, pushing boundaries and continuing to achieve exciting developments in audio innovation.

Calmer 2
I'm not sure where to leave my review for Flare Calmer 2 prototype because the option is not available on their website so I've come here.
I used to use Flare Calmer but they made my ears itch like crazy. I was a bit hesitant to try Calmer 2 because A.) I was afraid it would also be itchy and B.) I have tiny ear canals and usually even size S ear tips are too big for me.
However, I was annoyed that while my Loop Engage blocks out some of the noises in my environment which helps me concentrate on working, they unfortunately do not make conversations easier as they also block out people's voices and I have to strain to hear them in a conversation. I can also hear my own noises (voice, eating, etc.) A LOT louder when I'm wearing Loop Engage.
I would really like something that helps neutralise annoying noises in my environment and help me focus on the sounds I need to focus on, so I decided to give Calmer 2 a go.
I have just received the product today and this is my immediate experience of it:
PROS:
- not itchy
- I can hear perfectly
- easy to wear
- I can hear my own voice and noises a bit louder than when I'm not wearing them, but this does NOT come close to how loud I can hear myself when I'm wearing Loop Engage, so I consider this a pro
CONS:
- the ear tips come in only 3 sizes (S,M,L) and size S was still too large for me. I found a pair of XS from a different product (can't remember which) and used those instead and they worked. So people with tiny ear canals, beware. For reference, I use XXS ear tips for my Loops. [UPDATE: I've had to swap the XS tips to XXS as XS become uncomfortable after a few hours. The XXS tips were by Loop]
I have yet to test what it's like to wear Calmer 2 in a conversation or in a place full of people/noises, so will have to update this review later on. So far, first impressions are pretty good.
This is an absolutely great company
This is an absolutely great company! They have great customer service and will assist you in every way! I have so much respect for them and the way they deal with customers, especially me! 😁
These ear plugs are superb
These ear plugs are superb, I work in a very noisy factory, it's almost unbearable without earplugs. My work does supply earplugs but I feel isolated from workmates when I wear them. The Flare Audio earplugs are great, they cut out the sharpness/harshness of the noise but I can hear and talk with my workmates no problems at all. What a difference they make, I bought my daughter a pair too.

Sadly these did not fit my ears either so having to return both these Calmer 2 and the previous ones. But customer service did try very hard to help.

I was sceptical before using the Calmer Pro but after having used them for 4+ months now I can say they work GREAT. Without them I can't bear my daughters crying but with them I can bear it for much longer before reaching my limit.
I have a severe sensory condition. These weren’t enough for me, but may be for another less sensitive 😊
I have sensory conditions that involve,
Noises being too loud as standard and get increasingly loud as my ears get sore. Lights are too bright. It’s very severe.
I need something that will partially cover sound and take the edge off those sounds.
Calmer is successful at making those sounds more normal. As they usually are for others. I know this because I wasn’t always like this. I changed at the age of 20.
So water from the tap into the sink. Doesn’t sound like a crashing tornado.
However it only lightly reduces.
If you only find noises a slight impact these would help.
I.e small things like the creak of a door, the squeak or a chair, glass clinking etc.
Bigger noises may need more protection and protection for the outer ear.
Like loops.
It’s worth noting. Calmer is not made to reduce sound, just take the harsh edge off. The more protection you use. The more you need, some conditions can be trained to feel better with a little help.
It’s Important to know your condition 😊.
Don’t be put off trying them if you feel you might be similar. All sensitive ear conditions will make you grit your teeth and get overwhelmed. So even though they aren’t quite enough for me. They could be plenty for you 😊.
They also have a new prototype and ear shades for night, all worth a look 😊. Best of luck.
Bad products, worse support
I bought their Sleeep Pro plugs.
They are extremely uncomfortable and do not justify their price at all.
So, I wanted to return them. They were sent to me from the Netherlands, and I was asked to pay the return shipping fee. However, they want me to send them back to Great Britain, declaring the plugs' value as 0 in the customs declaration form to avoid taxes. Worse, they threatened me to deduct any custom charges the postal service might make if I do not declare them as 0 in value. The worst part is that they insisted that this way of handling packages was legal.
Finally, they allowed me to send back my item to where it came from and refunded me.
Conclusion: Bad plugs, bad customer support, worse company policies, but still finally a refund.
I had high hopes for the Calmer ear…
I had high hopes for the Calmer ear inserts to help me with my mysophonia but they don't fit well enough to get the full benefit. Support has been decent but my only options are to take a credit and try a different product (and pay to have those shipped to me) or pay to have these shipped back to receive a full refund. The cost of the shipping will be 65% of my refund. Factor in time and annoyance and I just will have accept the financial loss and not recommend them for all...if you are lucky enough for them to fit, maybe they'll work for you.
Flare calmer inserts. Highly recommend
After my delivery hadn't been delivered to my work address in over a week, I contacted flare about this. Immediately they sent out a new package to my home address and received it within 2 days. I then received the lost package a few days later and flare were extremely helpful a generous.
The calmer ear inserts are a dream for me who struggles with noise. On trains, busy restaurants, all the things that can trigger me now no longer trigger me when I wear them. Game changer!!
Complete waste of…
For me it was a complete waste of money. The calmer doesn't reduce any noise and the earshade hurts after a while, can't use it during a whole night. I can't recommend any of these products.
Awesome experience
Awesome experience! Fantastic product! A few months ago I purchased a set of calmer ear buds to try. I have mysophonia and work in a loud environment in a coffee chain. These were worth the wait! They have helped tremendously. My only down side is that they tend to fall out of my ears after 15 minutes or so, so I’m always having to be aware and push them back in so as not to lose them. When I made a comment on a post saying as much, Flare audio reached out to me and offered to help me out. Even though I was past the 100 day return time frame, I was given credit to help me purchase a smaller size to fit my ears better.
I am beyond grateful and honestly so impressed because you don’t see this from companies much these days. The level of customer service I have received from Flare alone would have me coming back, but they truly have a wonderful product and I can’t wait to test out my smaller buds. This product has been a life saver for my sanity. I can’t say thank you enough.
Design is fine on the sleep version
Design is fine on the sleep version, but the plastic ends feel very sharp against the ear and not rounding, unfortunately bought 2 sets and maybe should have bought them in aluminum, but I'm afraid they are also sharp
Lost in 24 hours
I bought the flare calmer soft. On the plus side they were comfy. But they didn’t stay in my ears and I lost them three times in 24 hours. I now cannot locate one of the ear pieces. I bought transparent but this makes them very hard to find. Not a great success unfortunately. I wouldn’t recommend.
I was sceptical but they really do work.
I work in a busy coffee shop and suffer from noise sensitivity. I was sceptical about these but thought I’d give them a try and they really do work. They arrived with a nice little bag to keep them in. I popped them in at work on a very busy day, they are small and discrete but they worked straight away. I could still hear conversations but it reduced the impact of harsh noises on my ears. This reduction in noise calmed me down and allowed me to focus better. I would definitely recommend these.

I ordered back on February and never received the product. They sent me an email to review them but I can not. Very disappointed
I was very pleasantly surprised at my experience!
I used my Calmer ear plugs for the first time a week ago while dining in a restaurant with some friends. Normally the background noise of people talking creates unease and agitation in me, however, this time I actually felt 'calm.' I was very pleasantly surprised! I was able to sit comfortably while my friends finished their dinner and conversed without thinking about when we were going to leave. I have already suggested Calmer ear plugs to several of my friends. Thank you for such a great product as well as for your caring customer service.
Answering of quotes regarding different conditions not listed
I had some questions about the product and if it is suitable for certain conditions, like tinnitus, and they helped me to the best of their ability and supplied me with references and customer reviews regarding my questions. A long with shipping links to help me get the products to South Africa!
Very happy and satisfied with the help I received.
No effect!
Purchased for my daughter. They dont reduce any sounds at all. Got an email to submit a review. Did it, but my review is not showing up on their reviews page!

Waste of thirty bucks
Waste of thirty bucks. These made absolutely no difference. Maybe the placebo effect works, but sadly, on me, it did not.
