Friendly and helpful members

On FishLore I can say that 99.9% of the people have given me great advice. Unlike Facebook fish groups, which I have tried to use, the members aren’t rude. FishLore has a very friendly community with thousands upon thousands of helpful people ready to answer your questions. I think the longest I have ever had to wait for an answer was 30 minuets.

Helpful and Quick Responses! Lovely Community.

Helpful forum with a very quick response time, and plenty of people who aren’t pretentious and are actually willing to take things from a newbie’s perspective and advise them according to what they do/don’t want to do, unlike most forums I’ve ever seen. Friendly, fun folk that show a great deal of empathy, patience and relatability to the new and experienced, and the mistakes others may often make or irresponsibility. The best way to get someone to change their ways is not to fight and criticize them but to discuss and convince them that it’s possible and easier than they think, and these people have done exactly that for me and many others.

One of the best fishkeepers forums out there

One of the best, most welcoming and patient communities for people just getting their toes wet in the aquarium hobby. Not only is there a wealth of information in the searchable forums, but there are articles on various fish, pinned posts on some of the most common topics, and links to come great tools, as well as the vast knowledge of the members themselves.
The forums are also very well designed, with lots of subtopics beyond the beginning fish questions, including places to post about DIY projects, aquarium builds and dreams, advanced questions about plants and invertebrates, and areas just to show your love for your fish :) I've been a daily user for over 6 months now, and there are people on there with years under their belt and a drive to help others to enjoy the same success they do :)

Fishlore is mostly what it claims to be…

Fishlore is mostly what it claims to be - it's fun, friendly and active. As of recently, however, there have been some... political issues with it. It seems that some moderators behave in a questionable way; banning large amounts of members for little reasons. Fishlore itself may not gain anything from banning members as Mike says, but moderators as individuals may get a little up themselves, in regards to their power over regular members.

Think of it as a power trip.

I've been using Fishlore for about 7 months, and this October is the first time I've had issues with the forum and how it's run, except for some slight discomfort at the amount of content that is removed/locked by moderators.

Most reviewers here seem to be biased, be it towards Fishlore or against it. Fishlore is a great place, but some people there need to grow up, to be honest.

I actually left a 5-star review on this very page a few months ago under a different name, but that is sadly no longer opinion. As you may have heard, FL posted this on their news bulletin:

"Fishloreans - Unfortunately some banned members have put out some bad reviews of our forum. Let's drown them out and show the world that this is a safe, friendly and fun place for all hobbyists. If you have found fishlore.com to be helpful, please rate us here: Fishlore on Trustpilot

Thank you!"

First of all, this seems a little corrupt. I understand that some reviews have an emotional bias but some are pretty reasonable. Instead of trying to "drown out" bad reviews, Fishlore should dig deeper and find out what is making so many people unhappy.

I'm also concerned by a response left by Mike here:

"Thank you! Glad to see people are able to see through what the competitor forum is trying to do here."

I can confirm that the "competitor forum" (FishForums.net) is NOT trying to undermine Fishlore or gain more members. I know this because I am a member on both forums and I know the group that moved over there, as well as the banned members.

Overall, I really do like Fishlore, but I feel that it's turned sour. Hopefully that's temporary.

Safe place for children and experienced…

Safe place for children and experienced people to ask questions and get answers about aquariums. Foul language is blocked and abuse is not tolerated. Bring your civil, curious self and you will be satisfied with the community.

I found the forum overall wasn't a good forum

I found the forum overall wasn't as large as i expected, a few members accounting for much of the activity. This wasn't an issue until I realized several we're pretty biased and not very well informed, some even borderline rude. It also seemed the staff harrassed certain members, just poor tact. I'm still a member but never use the site anymore, between YouTube channels, Facebook groups and other forums there are just simply better resources available.
