The were using the cancellation policy of the service provider (in my case Hellenic Seaways) as a lame excuse. That is to say I kept the deadline DATE of Hellenic Seaways but unfortunately did not take into account that you also have to keep strictly to the local (Greece) time which is by the way nowhere mentioned in the cancellation policy on the website of Hellenic Seaways. Therefore they refused to cancel my ferry ticket free of charge and to provide a full refund. Where there is a will there is a way! Very POOR customer experience! No lenience at all! Just because of a few hours of time difference even though I kept to the cancellation deadline DATE.
