✨ Review of Kutools for Word
I purchased Kutools for Word on July 23, 2023, as a lifetime license. At that time, AI was not yet such a big part of everyday tools, and Kutools felt like a very practical add in that saved me time and effort. My overall experience with the software has been very positive — it’s reliable, feature rich, and genuinely improves productivity in Word.
Recently, on May 26, 2026, I realized I was running version 20 in trial mode. After contacting support, I learned that my lifetime license included free upgrades only until July 23, 2025. That means I can continue using the last eligible version (18.x) permanently, but newer releases after my upgrade window require a new license or upgrade plan. The support team explained this clearly and provided me with the correct download link for version 18.10, which works perfectly with my license.

🌟 Tips for Buyers
• Lifetime vs upgrades: A lifetime license lets you keep using the version you purchased forever, but free upgrades are limited to the included upgrade period (two years in my case).
• Version awareness: If you install a newer version outside your upgrade window, your license won’t activate and the software will run in trial mode.
• Keep records: Save your license email and note your upgrade expiry date to avoid surprises later.
• Use correct installer: Kutools provides older installers for eligible versions — make sure you download the right one for activation.

💡 Suggestion to Extend Office
Kutools is a great product, and the support team is very responsive. One improvement would be to add a clear upgrade eligibility chart on the Extend Office website. Showing purchase date, upgrade period end date, and the latest eligible version would make things more transparent and help customers avoid confusion.

Key Highlights
• Version 18: First step into AI-powered editing. The standout was Keep Format Polish, which allowed users to refine text without breaking formatting. This was especially useful for professional documents.
• Version 19: More of a transitional release, focusing on stability and incremental improvements. It expanded AI utilities and improved navigation but didn’t introduce groundbreaking new tools.
• Version 20: The most mature release in this range. It added Batch Replace inside shapes, optimized startup speed, and improved conversion tools. This version was clearly aimed at power users handling complex documents.
⚖️ Strengths and Trade-offs
• Version 18: Great for users who wanted AI assistance for polishing and translation, but performance issues were still present.
• Version 19: Stable and reliable but lacked headline new features.
• Version 20: Best balance of performance, compatibility, and advanced editing tools. However, some users noted that the AI features were becoming heavier, requiring more system resources.
Kutools for Word versions 18–20 introduced steady improvements in AI-assisted editing, document management, and performance. Version 18 marked the start of advanced AI integration, while version 20 refined stability and expanded batch editing tools, making it the most polished release in this range.

Retired VP and banking analyst
For years I worked as a VP and banking analyst and was considered an Excel power user. One day I ran across an Excel add-on called KUTOOLS which literally put Excel on Steroids. I loved it, so I had my employer purchase a license, as it allowed me to easily and quickly build more complex models using features I didn't know existed in Excel. I'm now retired but still like to play Excel . I found myself so used to using KUTOOLS, even for simple stuff, that I purchased a personal license for myself. A few months ago, I came across an advertisement for a product called Office Tabs for Excel which sounded interesting, so I purchased a license. What I found interesting was that it was from the makers of KUTOOLS. I love it. I know I haven't exploited many of its powers, but it does make managing many of my related spreadsheets easier. I later purchased Office Tabs for WORD which also allows better management of related WORD documents and just purchased Office Tabs for Outlook based on its list of extensive features. ExtendOffice Inc's product offerings are powerful, easy to use, very reasonably priced, and best of all, do not require subscriptions. Another thing I like, and this is important, the quality and responsiveness of their tech support. I had a few questions and received a response from employee, Jay Chivo. He was quick and to the point for my initial and follow-up questions. Based on my personal experience with ExtendOffice, I can say the following:
They offer awesome, easy to use and very powerful products which are reasonably priced.
Their support is over-the-top which is not the norm with many companies.
They do not require subscriptions.
They have a very high depth of knowledge of the innerworkings of Microsoft products.
I highly recommend ExtendOffice, Inc. products.

If you buy any of these products be…
If you buy any of these products be aware that it is a long and drawn out and impossible process to try and retrieve your very long serial code.
For some reason, the serials intermittently fail to activate and need lengthy manual input again to try and get the addins working again.
This happens on such a regular basis that I have wondered if this is actually company policy to disable the addins after a while so as to force re-validation.
I had a catastrophic machine failure that I had to rebuild from. I had saved the long serials but then the serials were not accepted. After hours of trying, I still cannot recover the situation.
This difficulty to register and re-register a legitimately purchased product is ridiculous.
I regret having purchased.
