Ive had the unfortunate experience of the other reviewers , terrible communication ,hostile to customers at Sunderland Everlast
Stopped Aquafit classes without notice on 22nd February, staff blaze , "we know as much as you " was the answer when questioned about membership & going forward
Not offering the services but insisting on payment for nothing . deliberately obstructing cancellation
Ive escalated my complaints through Citizens Advice Consumer Service ,I would suggest this to others as the customer care is non existent with Everlast
Amazing experience
Amazing experience, super kind staff - amazing workout! Comming again
Poor maintenance of swimming pool facilities
After a year of membership with Everlast (Colchester, UK), I'm not really that satisfied with the quality of the experience they offer.
The ticketing gate was broken for about 4 months, and the sauna has also been out of order for such a long time. The sauna in particular is one of the features which attracted me in the first place, and we fee-payers are literally buying access to every time we pay the monthly fee.
The only real reason that I kept the membership was because it's on the other side of the road from where I live, so convenience won me over here.
The young staff are all full of smiles and quite helpful when you ask for anything, but they don't seem to really be paying much attention to the cleanliness or maintenance of the gym facilities that much.
Luckily I'm actually moving away now, so it's an opportunity to find a better gym nearer my new place.

I was going to join this gym because my partner had and at first he thought it was a good place, albeit a bit dated. However, they have been deceptive with their memberships, telling him that he would be able to switch from the £40 membership to the £35 if he did not enjoy the hyrox classes. Since he joined 2 months ago, they have cancelled most of the classes so he hasn’t been able to attend them anyway. When he asked to move down to the £35 membership, they then backtracked and refused to change it. Will be avoiding this gym and I recommend you do too because from the other reviews it sounds as though things are constantly broken and service is poor.
Horrific customer service.
Almost a scam if you read their contract.
My current gym will not let me cancel despite the aircon being broken for over 2 years, it's unusably hot inside.
They will remove any service (spa, air conditioning, equipment) and can charge you whatever they like?
Cost to cancel early for medical reasons? £10
Didn't give THREE MONTHS notice you wanted to cancel? we'll charge you another £35?
Want to freeze your contract? We'll charge you 2 months + £5.
Really poor and dismissive customer service.
Facilities
Facilities if you're serious about fitness there's a wide range or free loaded and functional equipment Staff are friendly and Helpful at Front desk and Fitness Team are always there to help
Gym area is good
Gym area is good, equipment is ok, good space, but could do with an update! Zero sanitizer to wipe equipment down, just a dirty cloth and spray, personally wouldn’t touch the cloth.. very unheigenic, especially after covid, shocking!! Ladies changing room and toilet absolutely filthy!
Not happy at all
I joined gym before covid. All was good that time. 2 jacuzzis, steam room, swimming pool was good addition to gym area and was working perfectly. More than a year ago things started going down. Steam room on and off, no jacuzzis, pool always full of kids taking classes and their parents walking around with outdoor footwear on. Showers are very dirty, hair on tiles, some machines in gym out of order.
I cancelled my membership plus direct debit in April due to some health issues and since then it’s been absolutely nightmare as I have been told i owe even more money as late payment fee been applied. I haven’t been to gym since March, why do I have to pay for something im not using?? Its not a mobile or broadband subscription that I use every day. Not recommended at all.
If I could I’d give it a zero.
If I could I’d give it a zero.
I have been trying to cancel my membership since April and the entire process has been extremely frustrating.
When I first requested cancellation, I was told it could not be processed until my account was up to date. I ensured the required payment was made and later received confirmation that there were no outstanding fees. I was then asked whether I wanted the calendar month’s notice applied, and I replied confirming that I did.
After that, I received no confirmation that my cancellation had actually been processed. Another payment was then taken from my account, despite me believing my cancellation request had already been submitted. I sent a detailed follow-up email asking for clarification, a review of the additional charges, and an explanation as to why my cancellation had not been processed when I originally confirmed it.
I never received a response.
The lack of communication has been incredibly disappointing. As a student, unexpected charges have a real impact on my finances, and I have spent months trying to resolve what should have been a straightforward cancellation request.
Based on my experience, I would NOT recommend this gym due to the poor customer service and cancellation process.
Have used this gym for many years I…
Have used this gym for many years I like the people that go (early doors) won't even try to go evening as I hear it's so busy it's a waiting game for everything. It is a bit dirty and could do with a good clean. And no clean down stuff available sometimes cause when it's done it's done till the next day, my pet hate mainly is people thinking they are above putting weights back or using the machine and walking away leaving weights still on the machine. Many times I've tripped over weights left piled up all over the floor or around machines. Seriously people FFS if you can stack a machine teach your self you unstack we can't all life big super weights and 5 mins to sort out the machine. Also why oh why can people not also return mats or yoga blocks back to where they are kept. 5 mins looking for things left lying around. Guess some are not team players and think this simple task is beyond them. Staff are not your side kick to pick up what your brain cell can't manage simple if you use it return it back to the weight stands or where it came from. If you can load a machine, bloody unload it.
In the past few years I have seen this…
In the past few years I have seen this gym deteriorate into the state it is now.
The machines are the original ones when the gym first opened.
It used to have two jacuzzi’s and a steam room, management took the jacuzzi’s out without ant notice to the members just leaving a steam room which isn’t fit for purpose, IF, on the odd occasion, that it’s actually open the temperature is so low that my mother’s front room is hotter!!
The old machines break down regularly and usually takes a couple of months to fix, if not repairable then they are taken away and the other machines are moved to hide the gap so members won’t realise yet another machine is gone.
Initially, it had a cafe, so that after a workout you could socialise with friends, THAT’S GONE!!
One good point (the only one that keeps most memberships going) is the Swimming pool, no need to book and apart from weekend's (kid’s swimming lessons) you can usually experience a nice relaxing swim.
Too be honest, for a little more money the Hengrove gym is a far better option.
Another swimming pool gripe:
When the steam room side of the pool is roped off for private lessons (far too often for regular pool users liking, but that goes without saying), now there are frequently ALSO private lessons at the other side of the pool as well. The problem with this is, the instructor and learners (often two) are prone to take up more and more space, sometimes half of the available width. The adult learners act in a very entitled way as they appear to behave as if the pool belongs to the training company and only they are paying customers, they barge other users out of the way both getting in and out and stray into the paths of lane swimmers. The children learners (some) have a parent in the pool with them, quite unneccessarily at their age, causing yet more blockages.
Common sense would be to rope off an additional second lane for lessons BUT the management perhaps think this might too obviously show disregard for ordinary members by physically restricting them to a third of the pool?
Dark and dirty. Poor staff training.
I first visited Everlast in Carlisle with a view to joining. I was told that it was £15 for a day pass the could be reduced to £7.50 online only. After been bounced back and forth they eventually reduced it in the gym. The deal they said was you would get it taken from your first months membership if you joined. The following day I went to join and. The staff member said she didn't know how to do it. She asked a colleague who said that I'd now to pay full and claim back on the second month. So I walked. Everlast had multiple chances to give the correct information and failed. That along with the other reviews of being charged double and old/broken equipment didn't draw me as a new member. I was already torn between there and another Gym that isn't dark, dirty( 1 X cleaning station with toilet roll) and didn't have clear rules on joining and a poor record was the nail in the coffin. I would suggest if you think about joining to pay for a day pass and look at the other gyms.
Absolutely awful
Absolutely awful, joined after being told refurb was coming within the year… never happened and told it is not going to now
disgusting showers, broken and mouldy tiles, paint peeling, lockers jammed, dirt and hair everywhere
Air con not worked in years
Jacuzzi x2 not worked in years
Equipment rusting and lots out of order
Carpets filthy
Smells awful
Side doors left open to allow air and also undesirables in unnoticed (cough cough) and unchallenged by staff to the use whatever facilities they fancy, making women users especially feel uncomfortable, this is a serious security issue!
When entering the female changing area (there are 2 cubicles with doors, the rest is open) a male staff member came walking out from a locked cubicle, no idea what he was doing in there and in hindsight should’ve reported it but was shocked
Staff chatting with friends at the entrance messing around and swearing
Cancelling membership, in the process at the moment, emailed and told to contact home gym, then told to go in, then told to email home gym. Still waiting for response,
If you can enter a contract online you should be able to end it online once contract period ends
Avoid avoid avoid place needs to be condemned!
Not Listening to its Members
I have been a member of the Ocean Plaza Southport Everlast Gym for over 10 years, the equipment and the speed of repairs has never been great, yet the classes and the location make this gym great. The Waring Brothers onsite cafe is also a huge factor in me and my husband remaining members, yet this week we find out that that the Waring Brothers Café will be closing at the end of next month, as their lease has apparently not been renewed in favour of a smoothie bar following the Gyms refurbishment.
I completely understand the desire for brand consistency across your locations. However, I believe the demographic of members in Southport is very different from that of many city-centre gyms. The Waring Brothers Café offers outstanding food and service that aligns well with the expectations of this gym’s members and those who are conscious of their health and nutrition.
Myself and others use the café several times a week, and its value goes far beyond simply providing refreshments. The sense of community it creates for gym members is something that cannot easily be measured, but it is a very important part of the overall experience at this gym.
I have urged the management to reconsider this decision, or at the very least seek direct feedback from members regarding what we would actually want to see in terms of food and refreshments before removing such a valued and important part of the gym.

Extremely Disappointed with Everlast Gyms
I had my membership frozen while my home gym in Sunderland was closed for refurbishment. Due to an honest mistake, the membership was accidentally unfrozen, despite my clear intention for it to remain frozen. I did not use the gym at all during April and explained this to the Sunderland team, expecting a reasonable review of the situation.
Instead, I was told I would be charged the full month’s membership fee regardless and that nothing could be done. When I disputed the charge and asked for the matter to be reviewed as a gesture of goodwill, my emails were completely ignored. After sending multiple follow-up emails and giving them ample opportunity to respond, I received no reply whatsoever (I was dealing with a lady called Claire who calls herself Membership Experience Host)
The lack of customer service was far more frustrating than the charge itself. Being ignored when trying to resolve a genuine issue is unacceptable. I eventually had to escalate the complaint to head office because the local team simply stopped responding.
For a company that claims to value its members, this experience showed the opposite. Poor communication, no flexibility, and no willingness to engage with a loyal customer over a genuine mistake. I would think twice before joining Everlast if you expect fair treatment when issues arise.
Clean the gym and fix the steam room
Gym is alright but nothing is ever cleaned the sauna has ants and flys living inside the floor in the swimming pool is not the colour it is meant to be and I have gotten an ear infection from the water on the other hand the steam room that does not get cleaned has been sitting broken for around 6 months now which is a real letdown. The staff are kind people and set up challenges which are quite nice but the gym does need to be refurbished
Everlast glasgow fort terrible
Been going to this gym for around 4-5 years and I can say its going down hill people say its ( got alot of equipment) yea it might have some stuff you have never seen before but no doubt it will be broke. Cables allways sticky/broke dumbells never in the right place or where you need the mens locker room smells like a literal toilet and when you say to the workers about the condition on the gym and machines its allways the same we are getting people out to fix everthing soon its been like this for months and they have a cheek to increes the price id give the gym a 4 out of 10 needs alot fixed

I am a new member he and bought the champion membership. I started at the gym and after speaking to sam (Head Coach) who was pleasant initially i decided to purchase a full P.T Package @ £150 at the beginning of may which included myzone free products plus extra benefits and a certain amount of P.T Sessions.
We are now at the end of may nearly a full month! I have had no e of the products since purchasing, I had an initial email from Sam (Head Coach), then after asking in branch to another member of staff (as sam wasnt available) that i would need sam to contact me so i could talk through previous injuries i had nothing at all not contact & no email. Also since staff have been pretty off with me unless i have approached them and made a point of asking them something!
I sent an email 3 days ago and told them i wanted my money back this was just after getting home from the gym and sam fully blanking me at reception!
Suddenly after asking for a refund i get an email from sam saying how it had been a while and wanted to book some sessions with no mention of the fact he had made no contact all month or the fact i had received no products included or the fact he fully blanked me with a sour face just the day before!!
I was then told by the manager Tom over email i wasnt eligible for a refund and he tried to push the blame onto me and how they were still waiting on myzone products even though one had been handed to a customer the day before!
I asked for a head office address from Tom but avoided that but did state he would pass it on to his area mnager but 3 days on and no email or contact about when the area manager will be in touch!!
I have emailed head office & this review will be posted to every review site i can find and i will also be adding to social media and other sources until i receive my refund!
Other issues:
The steam room tiles are slimy & filthy with scum on the uprights for the seating, the male showers and toilets smell like an s.t.i outbreak (a strong crabby cheesy smell & this isnt a one off they have been like that since i joined)
Unsanitary Conditions and Poor Management Response
I cannot recommend this facility due to serious hygiene concerns and a lack of management intervention.Today at 6p.m. I witnessed guests entering the swimming pool and sauna directly from outside while wearing their outdoor clothes, completely sweaty and dirty, without showering first. When I reported this clear health hazard to the management team, they refused to take immediate action, claiming they needed to "check the policy" first. Basic hygiene and common sense should not require a policy review. If you are concerned about cleanliness and avoiding infections, I suggest looking elsewhere.
