The 2023 Xmas play
The 2023 Xmas play, an adaptation of Dicken's "A Christmas Carol", was mine - and my child's - third play by this (mostly) children/teenagers' theatre company. We had loved previous adaptations by Eventyrteatret, not so much this time around. Unlike previous comments my child (7yo) understood what was happening. However, Scrooge came off as a very flat character, too grumpy and annoying, almost caricatural, and his "conversion" to become a good person happened unnaturally at the end of one of the "ghost" scenes. I think there are still many good lessons to take from this classical piece for both children and adults which were unfortunately lost in this play. In the end it felt very unconvincing and the Christmas/Christian message was lost. A pity!
