⚠️ Extremely disappointing experience…

Extremely disappointing experience with Evans Cars Ltd

I purchased a SEAT Leon FR from Evans Cars Ltd for £3,999. Unfortunately, I started experiencing issues with the car almost immediately.

From the beginning, the engine would sometimes take several attempts to start. Over time, this became significantly worse, to the point where I would have to hold the key for around 15–30 seconds before the car would finally start.

I paid the garage to investigate the problem, but they were unable to identify the cause because there was no engine warning light and nothing showing on the diagnostic system.

Around three months after purchasing the car, the turbo failed catastrophically. I had the vehicle inspected by my local garage, who found metal from the failed turbo and advised that the engine would require a substantial rebuild to put the vehicle right.

I subsequently discovered that the car had previously been badly remapped before I purchased it, something I was completely unaware of at the time of purchase. I was also advised that this could have placed additional strain on the turbo.

I contacted Evans Cars Ltd to explain what had happened. Although the vehicle came with a warranty, I was told that the warranty only covered the gearbox and head gasket. I was then told that they could arrange to repair the car, but only if I paid to have it recovered to them myself — despite the vehicle being undriveable and the garage being over two hours away.

I asked for the owner’s details so that I could discuss the situation directly. I was only provided with a telephone number. I subsequently contacted him and explained the situation and my concerns regarding my consumer rights.

After receiving no satisfactory resolution, I sent two formal letters by signed-for post. Despite this, I received no response and have effectively been ignored.

The car cost me £3,999, which took me a considerable amount of time to save. I have now had to spend a further eight months saving for another vehicle because I have been left without a reliable car.

I appreciate that cars can develop faults and that mechanical failures happen. What has been particularly disappointing is how this situation has been handled after I raised the problems.

Based on my experience, I would strongly recommend that anyone considering purchasing a vehicle from Evans Cars Ltd carries out a very thorough independent inspection and checks the vehicle’s history and modifications before handing over any money.

Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this garage based on my experience.
